I'm not happy with choice of actor playing Conan. In the original, the character of Conan was a Norseman. The new Conan is a veiled attempt at making the character appear multicultural. While politically admirable, such changes do affect the foundation of the story.

The real question is...
How does one get hollywood to make an original movie?
I could of sworn I have seen Conan the Barbarian like 25 times. You know the one with the "Governator" in it. The movie that more or less launched the career of Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Jesus, I can't believe their remaking that one. Leave it alone already.

Jason Momoa(Conan).
Was in Stargate Atlantis,. After watching that for a few years, I don't think his acting skills are quite ready for the big screen, I think this movie will turn into a B grade cheap out that will do bad at the box office.
I don't think he is a bad actor, for TV, just not movie material.

All I can say is that after having seen him in IRL if he bulks up for the role he could look bigger then Arnold.

I think this might be a good sequel if the storyline is good as well as a good supporting cast.

The worst part about the original Conan was the lead actor who had essentially no acting experience. For me, the acting was atrocious, the story line ridiculous and the the movie in general was B grade at best. Strange how that happens to movies that become cult classics.
Having said that I will probably go to this movie just to see if it can make a bad concept even a smidge better.
Don't get me wrong. I like many of Arnold's movies. I just think his acting skills never quite reached the big time. His big claim to fame was never his emoting, it was his bulk combined with hacking things or blowing things up. A good action movie does not require anything approachng a believable plot or even good acting as long as you get a high enough body count and enough chase scenes and explosions.
I do hope they put out better trailers than this one.

Jason Momoa imho is perfect for Conan.... Remember Conan was a Cimmerian which I believe Jason fits perfectly for...

I agree that original Conan had some pretty horrible acting. I mean come on Arnold Schwarzenegger at the time couldn't act his way out of a wet paper bag (there is still some debate as whether he still can). He was just a piece of meat. But, James Earl Jones, Mako, Max Von Sydow, and Sandahl Bergman were all very competent actors/actresses. As I recall Conan the Barbarian was very popular back in 1982. Most of my peers were totally into it. D&D was climaxing back then, and the movie only furthered our zeal (of course everyone wanted to be a barbarian after that). It wasn't so much a "cult classic" back then. Cable TV was pretty much in its infancy, and not everyone had HBO yet. So, it was pretty much advertising and word of mouth that got butts in chairs in the movie theaters. I would venture a guess that Conan the Barbarian didn't achieve cult classic notoriety until later. It is very hard to watch it now though. I guess I'm a victim of diminishing returns.
