TheWolf Here's a question I have a p8101 working but looks like its not going to make the bonus dead line. Two hours after I left the shed "man cave lol" 3 of my rigs reset and has been setting on the login screen for quite some time. 8 to 10 hrs idle Not sure why the reset, no BSOD message plus 1 rig was still folding away, different breaker or surge protection over load I guess was the cause. Should I dump it & start a new one or just let it finish? Edit: still about 23hrs left to complete About 21hrs in when the reset happened + 8 to 10 hrs idle + 23 hours to complete, that's over the deadline correct? It is generally best to let the WU finish since you have already started working it. It's best for the science because WUs that are dropped have to go back into queue and be reworked by someone else taking more time to return the results. On your 3 rigs resetting, I'm figuring some are running Linux because you mentioned one of them working an 8101. But, I also recall you are running VirtualBox which puts us back into a Windows background environment. One thing all of us that Fold in Windows had to do is to make sure that Windows updates are not set in "auto mode" which can force a restart of the PC for Win updates that require it. Another thought...are your rigs backed up by a UPS? Where I live, we suffer from fairly frequent and very short-term outages (sometimes as little as 10 seconds). If my rigs were not on UPSs, I'd have reset PCs all the time. Each of my rigs has it's own UPS and they are never down (unless we have an outage that lasts longer than the UPS's batteries can sustain).

mflanaga texinga I'm guessing since the hard-restriction was finally put into effect on a 16-thread minimum, that -Bigbeta has no more use? I know that nobody other than Beta members were supposed to use -Bigbeta anyway, and now I'm thinking using it has no effect vs using -Bigadv. Is that correct or are you guys still seeing some reason to continue to use the -Bigbeta argument? yeah, right now there appears to be zero difference between the two flags.. I tried it myself for a bit. I also have read on other teams forums that there's no difference. Thanks Mf. Back to the "topic at hand". The sharks, aka [H], are "smelling blood in the water" again with the distance closing under 1.5 months again. IMO we have done a magnificent job of holding them off the past few months. I love the "sound of crickets" over there every time we surprise them with a resurgence of production. We've had lots of hard work and sacrifice by members of our team this summer! I also see more and more new members surfacing here each week which is a welcome sight. Let's keep up the resistance and don't let the hoard over the walls team!!!

If I remember correct if the WU doesn't make the deadline its handed out again anyways, so its going to be reworked and late anyways. But I decided I'll let it finish. Ones like this in the past produced 1 point with its return. So if you see a 1 point WU for 111065 under my name you'll know what's up. lol That 23hrs would have been close to 50% into the next, but I been using the -oneunit and there when its done & run a couple regular SMP in between the next bigadv. I have all my rigs are set to never update, 1st thing I do after a fresh install of W7 is disable it. I manually update as needed. UPS I don't have, we been have 1 thunder storm after another here for the past few weeks, sometimes 3 or 4 a day. Making the power flash off for just a second up to close to a hour. Well I do have 2 old UPS but the batterys are dead. Edit: looks like I'll get the base points: http://fah-web.stanford.e...IPswillbebanned?p=8101 Fold on team we can pull this off.

Well I do have 2 old UPS but the batterys are dead. Check out Batteries Plus to see if you have a store near you. I've been replacing dead UPS batteries for many years from their inventory. As long as the UPS can handle the wattage needs and the circuit boards are sound, replacing batteries is a way to keep them going for many years. http://www.batteriesplus.com/

Hopefully my roomate (vd_edition) and I will be able to help increase the gap again in the next two weeks. It has started cooling off enough in the evenings to fold on all of the rigs (around 4 rigs) at night. Darn Texas summers really put a damper on our efforts...

I was going to keep my 2 rigs (Crystal & Mercury) going 24/7 for the next 10 days. But now Crystal is having HDD problems, so now I'm in resuce mode in trying to backup all my data for those drives. It can fold, but would prefer not to till I get things straightened out. So that leaves me at 9k PPD instead of the 28k PPD I could be doing. Quartz is awaiting for EVGA to release thier Z77 mITX board before it can start folding again. This month just sucks for me on folding.

I'va had to shut off 3 out of 4 rigs for teh past week due to abnormal temperatures in Paris, 38C+ and we have no AC, it's not that kind of climate usually. Will be back after I move back to the UK!

I've decided to put Crystal back online for folding, but just to let 6 of 8 threads fold. Need the other 2 threads to work the massive amount of data transfer, 24 hours later, still have another 16 hours to go. I also decided to enlist another PC to fold. So that PC is folding on 6 of 8 threads too, need to leave 2 threads for its owner to use. So I'm back up to 22K PPD, hoping to make the 350k a month deadline for EVGA.

barnhartmd051977 I am doing the best i can with what i have. Every little bit help right! Yes it does help and especially so, if we separate the science from the team rivalry. No matter what WU you are completing, no matter what hardware you run, no matter how many hours a day you contribute, you are part of a large world-wide collective of problem solvers. A cure for Cancer, Alzheimers, etc will come from what we all can do together and that is what really counts here. Keeping [H] at bay...well...that's for fun too!!

W.Feather Very nice push you guys have had on us recently......congrats guys - now you see the side we had prior to the 4 billion mark (remember that time ages ago ?) Yep, I had "pin-feathers" on my Folding wings back then and didn't follow too much of what was happening. I did recently locate and read the [H] thread about the overtake when it was clear that EVGA had done it. It gave me some perspective into how much that hard-earned title meant to you guys. It also gave me some perspective into why some at [H] have such strong feelings about the EVGA-bucks program. Yes, we love the #1 title and feel that we have invested lots of effort to get it and hold it too. One thing is for sure...things change. http://hardforum.com/show...ighlight=evga+overtake Remember when HPC came on the scene. They were slanted to blow both of us out of the water with a lot less time invested to do it! What a phenomenon that thing was and certainly was great for the science. I'm glad that you guys stop by and talk with us because (team/standing battles aside) we are one!

yes it was a while ago, the 4 billion was a big mile stone (at that point I think you guys were outproducing us by quite a margin), but yes, it is fun to see the other side (we are now where you guys were ~2 years ago). As for stopping buy - i pop in to see why all the hate from a few members here , I would like to be clear that most of [H] to my knowledge has no animosity to the EVGA team, rather the program that does support it at the beginning of each month....

There is one thing EVGA's team is missing, where is the cake, cookies, and ice cream? I mainly joined EVGA because I bought an EVGA X58 board. Then I found out they have a folding team. And since I was already folding for the Playstation Network team already, it was only natural to make the change and put my nice new hardware to better use. Now I build rigs almost solely for the purpose of folding, even though I make excuses and say it's for something else.

It's fun to poke at each other a little and exciting to think about how much that rivalry pushes all of us on to more contribution for the science.
