While the TRON mod is absolutely amazing, I do believe the DESK mod is more practical. I found myself looking at the DESK mod more than the TRON mod. I should go for another sentence with mod in it..

I would agree that the desk is more practical than the TRON case because, well it's a desk!  But fortunately for me, practicality isn't one of the judging criteria.

Totally amazing entry. This Tron bike is far and away the best entry there for a true scratch case imho. I can't believe some of the other entries there that have more votes.. I mean a freaking gingerbread house? Seriously? Look at the worklog.. it's just a mobo etc with nothing special to make it part of the case, then they built a frame of a house and stuck cookies to it.. whoopee-friggin-doo - anyone could do that! This Tron bike is unbelievable in comparison.

Then there's the desk rig.. well, one of the two there.. nearly 4 times as many votes? What a load of bollox. It certainly has some nice lighting work, I'll give it that, but when it comes down to it, it's just a glass-top box with nice lighting. The skill level and design work involved does not hold a candle to the Tron bike imho.

Boddaker, I don't give a flying frik what the final results are - you've already won it imho. Gratz. You deserve it. Champion.

Wow, thanks Nereus!  No matter what the outcome of the contest, I know I built about as best a custom rig as I could in the time frame that was imposed.  I'm just happy I finished on time.

As for the gingerbread house, if I recall, it was made for a huge casecon in Europe, and I think everybody ate it after the competition lol.

Put a couple of taps on it and Its a sink !!! and it's a "rectangle" with no real space limitation and zero custom parts. I might give him some credit if he smeltered the metal or if it was an original idea or something but seriously have a real close look and ask your self this... remove all the expensive bought parts and the 30 pictures of the shiny CPU and ask your self what did "he" actually "design" answer is not much. I don't dislike the guy and I think his build is alright but its not even in the same hemisphere as the complete original "Custom" manufactured designed and built Tron bike.

Any way speaking of practicality which one would you choose to take to a LAN party that is the first thing that came to my mind. You just need a bag to put it in... But if you ever find a public urinal without a sink well I know a guy who can build one for you. How is that for practicality you just need to put your drain system in the floor first or your cooling system depending on your sink or pc preferance. I wonder if the thought of a grate for your feet to rest on was ever contemplated lol

WHAT 2100+ votes for the L3P D3SK!!!!!!! Wholly SH...

Almost fell out of my chair.

Wow,  thought you had it in the bag Boddaker. I don't believe it ...  but to give the guy some credit I guess those colors are kind of a RAVE thing. I guess RAVE is still a popular thing. And it does have a lot of piping, reminds me of Charlile & the Chocolate Factory kind of thing.

Ginger bread house at almost 850 votes.................... no comment.

Over all I think your TRON Bike is still number one.

ya, i keep putting it on facebook too for ya...cause i believe its really the best. i feel pretty much the same way as everyone else about the other entries but i figured id be nice and wait till it was over to hammer on them.  if everyone here on the forums voted i think you should easily be able to hit 1000 votes?!?!?!? so come on people....get in there!! obviously, deskman, has alot of friends on diffrent forums because i know no one here would vote for that thing.

Thanks wmmills & naokiura, but remember the winner is not chosen by vote count alone.  There are other criteria the entry must score highly on:  Complexity, Design, Overall Look, and Innovation.  I think TRON will do well in these aspects, and that is why I think I still have a chance, regardless of how many votes I am behind.  :)

Awesome  looking  mod in such a short time frame...     the contest is in the judges  hands,  30%   is  only going to be 30%  and the rest is up to  the judges.  So i still think you got a good shot of winning,

best of luck

Thanks drerex & dsemac91!

Well I'm sitting at about 530 votes, which puts me in 4th place overall for 30% of the total score.  Winners will be announced on the 31st, so we'll see how the judges call it!  Thank you all for the support!  :D

I found a few pics that I neglected to post.  I realize they won't be considered in the judging, but I thought I'd throw them up anyways.

Here's some shots of the mesh pieces I made for the top.  I didn't have a large enough piece to cover the whole length, so I had to do it in two.

I managed to match the hexagon pattern so you can't really tell.

I bent the sides down so it fits snugly in between the two ribs, and I used black zip ties to hold it in place.  No time for a more elaborate fastening solution lol.

Here's a shot of the wiring bus I used to connect all the led strips to power.

Some cabling shots.  Sleeved ATX, PCI-e, and 12v.  You can also see the strings of leds that will be placed around the inside of the window, using velcro.

And some shots of the fairings hanging up after painting.

Assembling...

That's it for now.  Next post will probably be an update showing the case at Computex.  :)
