When are they going to announce the 4GB GTX 970? The 3.5GB version is okay but I still want 4GB.

If you are going to spend $1500 on a card (the rumored price), why set limits on yourself? Get 4 along with waterblocks for them and hook up a 5K display. It will be worth all the organs you would have to sell.

I've been running 4K fine on 2 980s. I'm curious how 1 of these would compare to a 980 SLI setup.

I've read anywhere from 1350-1500 will be the price which means 980ti will be a 1k GPU too.

Wouldn't be surprised if they made each titan x $2k usd just to push this toward the work side. It is NVIDIA we are talking about, and it is twice the ram, so why not double the price over the last generation, lol.

$1K for a 980Ti would probably be about right, Then around another $200 for a water block.

I'm gonna wait for a confirmed price and to see some tests for this to compare to my current setup before I make my decision. Right now I'm running 2 980s SLI for 4K gaming and curious to see if one of these titan X card will outperform it. 12 gigs of ram sounds delicious.

I'm interested in the derivatives that come of this card. A fully unlocked 6 GB version akin to the 780 Ti of the Maxwell gen and I'm in for two.

The engineers had the knowledge and resources way back, wayyyyyyyy... to make full electric cars, to much oil out there, imagine how much $ would oil refineries and government  lose.
Imagine if you were able to upgrade  your ram they know how play people like a puppets.

If a new Titan and a new 980ti are announced, would that cause a small price drop on the 980 and 970s?

There will be no 980 Ti. There has only ever been one x80 Ti model, and that was the 780 Ti. That was a unique scenario where Nvidia played their hand and AMD forced them to up the ante after the fact. They had the room to do it in GK110 but already used the 780 name, so they called it a 780 Ti.

There will likely be a new series based on Titan X derivatives and 900 series refreshes just like the 700 series was to the OG Titan and the 600 series. Nvidia will let AMD play its hand and then release what it has to in the new series to beat them. But there will almost certainly be no 980 Ti just like there was no 680 Ti, 580 Ti, 480 Ti, etc.

To answer your question, the Titan X will not affect the price of the 980s and 970s. It will be in a performance and price league of it's own. The 980's and 970's are unlikely to change in price at any point in time. They will come down in price when they get refreshed in a new series as the 1070 and 1060 or whatever naming scheme they come up with.

I just don't get the 12gb thing... with my 980 at 4k I only use just under 3.5 gb of vram...who in the heck is ever going to use all that buffer? A card made for password crackers?

But none the less, that card is going to be a rocket ship! It most likely will allow single gpu 4k 60 fps gaming, but for the projected price your stil better off getting 2 or 3 980's

Next to no one. But for some reason people have been scared of the VRAM boogie man since the beginning of GPUs.

I take that back, a 4-way Titan X setup runing 3x 4K surround could probably use more than 6 GB of memory. Any less than that and you're wasting money.

I don't know how you're only using 3.5 GB Noodle... I am still using 3 GB in some games at 1440p. When I was gaming at 4K, it would stick at 3 GB because that's all I have to give! And games that needed more (depending on settings) would choke badly. I have the horsepower to game at 4K easily, but the VRAM makes it impossible. BF4 at 2x MSAA choked. Evolve chokes at 1440p. Watch_Dogs chokes. I almost guarantee GTA V will choke 4 GB. It is not enough for 4K gaming for a year or two from now.

The VRAM boogie man does exist. And I never hoped I'd see him, but I did. And now I have to upgrade my year old $700 cards because NVIDIA got greedy and knew it would turn out that way.
