Hi,

So I have a newly replaced 750 G2 power supply and a brand new ASUS Z170-A mobo, Intel i5-6600K and new g.skill ripjaw 16GB RAM..  I got the replacement PS and mobo because I believed the previous ps got fried when my son was using his PC and the whole system just went blank with no explanation.  I popped in the new mobo and G2 PS and wanted to confirm the ps and mobo were compatible/working but when I hooked up the power and chasis LED buttons via the power connectors to the MB and tried to just start the system turn on the chasis the PS didn't start up and the LED lights did not turn on.  I am thinking its the PERIF cable but when I tried to use the mobo power switch that didn't work either.    I didn't think I need to have the CPU or the Video card installed to at least get the PS running and test the LED lights.  It seems unlikely to me its the case power button/LED panel since they are on different panels circuits and having power switches fail is not a common occurrence.

Thanks

Welcome to the forums..The 750 G2 comes with a PSU Tester that goes on it's ATX 24-pin connector for stand-alone bench testing the unit..Connect the tester as descibed on page 3 of the user manual and verify that it turns on and the fan spins as it should..Be sure the ECO Mode is OFF or the fan won't spin.

Hmmm I didn't see it in the replacement unit I received and I am not sure I still have the original.  Do you think support could send that along to me if I can't find it?  Ugh I would hope the replacement PS was not hosed as well :(

Use a paper clip, piece of wire or whatever to jumper the PS_ON (pin 16) to a COM (Ground) instead..That's what the tester does anyway.

Scroll down here to the PSU Paper Clip Test..See if the PSU at least turns on.

Ok thanks I will give this a shot when I get home tonight, I saw some of these solutions using the Google but wanted to get another opinion before I tried them myself.  I will let you know how it turns out.

    Thanks

    Hi there,

So I did the PSU test and the PS is working fine as expected, so I am thinking it must be the circuit board for the power switch on the case or the PERIF cable.  Going to check with EVGA support now to see if I can get that cable sent to me.  The thing I am confused about is the mobo has a power switch on it and it didn't engage, could it be because there is not enough power (graphics card, CPU and hard drive are not plugged in) going to the mobo?

    Thanks

PSU on is a good sign..I would put it all together and roll from there..Install the CPU and cooler, RAM, graphics card, HDD and all..Connect the System Panel/Front Panel Connector/Q-Connector making sure + and - polarity of things is right, and all the other connectors..You can do all that on a table if the board is out of the case.

What do you need the 4-pin PERIF cable for?..Connected to what?

the PERIF cable connects to the connector board where the power switch, reset button, LED lights, fans all connect to.  Thats why I thought it might be that cable causing the issues.

Hmmm..I'm not seeing any 4-pin PERIF (Molex) connector on a Z170-A..Normally if there is one, it's just for extra power when running graphics cards in SLI or CrossFire..Perhaps you can clarify.

whoops so the PERIF from the PS to the chasis/case molex connector board not the mobo.

What case?..Probly should run without it..I'd put it all together except for that and see how it rolls.

    Re: SuperNOVA 750 G2 Question 2016/10/25 07:35:36 (permalink)
The PC chasis/case.  The problem is the power button, reset button, etc etc connect via a circuit board to this connector board which needs the molex connector via the PERIF cable to the PS.  That is the heart of my problem I think, though having a power button/circuit board fail seems unlikely to me I guess it could happen.  I was on the phone with Rosewill, the case manufacturer yesterday as well with a request for a new circuit board and connector panel just in case...

Yeah, maybe so..Hopefully you can get one from EVGA, or find the one that originally came with the PSU..Good luck.
