I currently need a new mouse and surface. So far I was looking a G402 and G502, but I am not sure whether to get a hard or soft surface. I mostly play FPS games and occasionally some RTS/RPG. What would you guys recommend?

EDIT: I accidentally posted this under general software...this thread should probably be moved to general hardware.

    Hard surface.

Thanks for the suggestion, I was leaning towards a hard pad myself. I have these two pads in mind:

    http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-G440-Hard-Gaming-Mouse/dp/B00DY1HTU6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1409893648&sr=8-1&keywords=hard+gaming+mouse+pad

    and

    http://www.amazon.com/Sentey%C2%AE-Mousepad-Edge-style-Standard-Friction/dp/B00IXQGSCW/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1409893648&sr=8-2&keywords=hard+gaming+mouse+pad

I am not sure if the Logitech pad is worth 2x the price as the Sentey mentioned...

I'm still happy with my Logitech MX518, I still use a old school soft surface pad as well.

I have been using one of these for ages because they are slick with just enough friction to keep my aim good in games:

You won't believe this, but I just use a plain white ceramic floor tile.  It works great and never wears out.  I occasionally spray it with a bit of silicone and it really slides well. I have tried all sorts of expensive mouse pads and I like this the best.  You can go to a Lowes or a Home Depot and buy a selection of different types and try them out to see which one works best for you.  Them you can return the ones that you don't need.

Razer Sphex desktop skin. I can't recommend this enough. I had my doubts to begin with, didn't think it would last. It's been a year and has been perfectly stuck to my KB tray.

+1 as well.  Was a bit skeptical that would stay stuck to the surface over time, but has been perfect even after unsticking it to clean the desktop and putting it back down.
