Step-Up an already Step-Up'd Card

I just today step-up'd my 970 SSC to a 970 FTW (wanted the better heatsink). I almost went for the 980 ACX 2.0, but didn't want to drop the ~190 with x-mas shopping still to do.
 
Once I get my 970 FTW and register it, can I step-up that card to a 980 within 90 days since it's brand new from evga? Step-up a step-up card?

    Nope - Step_up cards are a 1 time deal. - You can't just keep stepping up & stepping up
     
    New purchases are only available to Step_up 1 time

    sell your card on ebay/amazon or here on the forums. Plenty of people looking for them due to their stock limitations.
