Step up 1080sc thermal pad question

Got my 1080sc a week ago and already knew all of the controversy surrounding the new cards regarding the thermal pads. I can see that the card has the pads on the back plate and on the vrms but how do I know if the VRAM has them applied without taking the cooler off? If the pads are already applied the 2 spots, does that mean the VRAM should have them too?
