A SpaceX rocket blew up on the launch pad at Cape Canaveral on Thursday, shaking nearby buildings and spewing smoke into the sky, two days before its planned liftoff with an Israeli satellite. The satellite was intended to expand broadband and video services for the Middle East and parts of Europe and Africa, including a Facebook project to expand internet access in sub-Saharan Africa. In a tweet, SpaceX CEO Elon Musk said accident happened when propellant was being loaded, but the cause of the explosion was not determined. Wow, now that is a really crappy day at the office. I am happy to hear their safety procedures prevented anyone from being injured. It sucks when you accidentally blow up your customers stuff.

If someone was recording this with HD surround at the time. It would make one heck of a sound test for 5.1/ 7.1 surround & subwoofer

Typically loss of payload during launch would be covered by insurance. That being said, this was a live fire test; the payload was not lost under standard launch conditions(ie, blowup mid flight). Because it wasn't lost during a launch, it's not going to be covered by launch insurance. My bet: they're grounded until early 2017.

Where did you get your Info? Once a Payload is received at a Launch Site by a customer it is covered by insurance. Insurance also covers thief, terrorist bombing, and so on.

It depends upon how it was insured. If the payload was lost due to design issues or a faulty part/maintenance it may not be covered.

https://www.reddit.com/r/spacex/comments/50rr9v/falcon_9_amos6_static_fire_anomaly_faq_summary/ Launch insurance does not apply until moment of launch. However, it does look like it was under cargo insurance of some sort, but I don't know if it would cover a live fire test like this.
Was the AMOS-6 satellite insured?Spacecom insured the payload under two policies: one for pre-launch procedures, where the satellite was classified as marine cargo for $285 million. The second policy is a more standard space launch policy. The latter policy does not become active until the moment of ignition for launch, and remains active for T+1 year after liftoff. As today’s anomaly occurred during the prelaunch-phase of operations, Spacecom does not get to exercise this policy.
Maybe I'm mistaken, I don't work in cargo insurance.

You are all funny to read. Try looking up Bailees or Garage Keepers insurance. Heck, look at Inland Marine. And then there is the assumption that insurance would not be astronomical in cost. They may very likely have "Self insured".

Sometimes rockets blow up. Its going to be good to have this data on hand so human launches have a lower risk of blowing up.
