No, not that kind of Bass.

This kind....

My wife was hesitant to let me put this small refrigerator sized subwoofer in the corner but once it was on it's side, she was ok with it. I can actually fit inside this thing it's so big. Right around 4' X 2' X 2' this thing is HUGE! The 18" speaker alone weighs a little over 40 lbs!

I don't have it fully set up yet but it POUNDS! It is tuned to 17Hz and is 1200 watts RMS.

Powering this beast is an Inuke6000dsp which is rated at 3000 watts per channel (@4 ohms)

Next, I am getting a smaller cube shaped 15" vented sub in the other corner for a near-field sub. I will be cracking drywall very soon!

It's a speaker with an identity crisis. Is it a table? Is a sub? You decide.

That's what my wife said. "Can we use it as a table and put stuff on it?"
I wouldn't put my drink on it, that's for sure. "Then she said, "You did an awesome job on the finish.... but....it's just....so....BIG!"
I have a recliner that is going in front of it that will hide some of it but it's a beast. I'm guessing it was around 200 pounds. When I turned it on, she said it was starting to make her nauseous when I turned it up so it's doing it's job!

Between my drumming and guitar playing, they are probably used to it. I live on 2.5 acres so it's not too bad. A little bass never hurt anyone.

I would like a side of Bass cooked over a campfire in a castiron skillet, some fried taters and some of that duchtoven apple pie you got in the coals there?

I will be careful, I am not one to listen even at reference levels that often. Surprisingly, even after years and years of doing audio work, my hearing is exceptionally well. Most of the sub is going to put out what can be felt anyway but I will use caution!

Oh I don't know about that. My ears are still ringing from all the concerts I went to back in the 70s.
The ringing in my ears is not a lot of fun. Please be careful.

Looks like a Marty build.  Nice finish.

I have one of those along with the smaller cube you will like how they work together.  Just make sure to spend some time tuning them to work together.  I really had to play around with placement, it took a while to find the best medium of having them where I wanted them located and where they worked best together.  Adding another near field sub behind the main seating position helped out greatly. I went with the mini dsp as I needed a little more tuning than what the inuke could do.

It was my understanding the the loud lower frequencies were not as hard on the ears as the higher ones.  You will definitely feel the bass more with those very large speakers.

Yep, Full Marty and Marty Micro cube. I will be running REW soon to get it all dialed in. My little 100 something watt Sony sub did fairly well but this will be no comparison. Everyone was very skeptical about staining MDF but it turned out really good. It's addictive building stuff!

Re: Some updates to my home theater. Here comes the BASS 2016/05/20 09:45:50 (permalink)
This is a necro thread but since it is my thread, I am going to bring it back from the dead for a final update.

I finished my micro cube and it turned out AWESOME. Yeah, that's 2 tones of wood stain on plain-no-grain MDF wood.

I got them both set up in the living room and ran REW (Room equalizer Wizard) with a calibrated mic and dialed the subs in and then ran Audyssey and dialed in my surrounds and front highs. I finally had enough time to actually sit down and watch a movie last night. We rented "The Fifth Wave" which was somewhat of an average movie but man those subs kicked hard! I put a limiter on the micro sub because that 100 pound subwoofer was literally moving in it's place! I didn't want to worry about blowing it so I limited that one to 550 watts and the full marty is running around 1100 watts.
You can see the full in the background behind the recliner and the micro in front. (those coasters had to go as they were bounced right off)

Kinda wished I would have went with a 120" screen but it just wouldn't fit. So 100'' is still cool and a big jump from my old 65" plasma.

Anyway, the point of this thread was mostly to show people that if you are like me and can't afford or have the space for a dedicated home theater, you can still have a pretty sweet set up. Svs, M and K, Legacy, Hsu ect...ect... subwoofers are totally great but why not go the DIY route and have much more sub for much less money?
I am telling you, there is a night and day difference between an all in one speaker kit from Best Buy that you just plug in and play and a well planned and matched set of speakers, subs and equipment. Calibration/ room treatment and knowledge help too but the bottom line is the theater can suck it!
