Best part is they promised 64bit support. I think they're using the fallout 4 or ESO engine. So SKSE will have to be updated to support it. Hopefully most mods will still work. Of course it's not coming out until october.

ESO? Didn't think the ESO engine had anything in common with the solo Bathesda games.

We've had high res Skyrim for several years now.  It's called modders and ENB.

Weird with so much going on that Bethesda would bother to dedicate any time to remastering this....as mentioned, especially with all the modding that has already been done to it.

Console gamers will buy anything twice, that's why. Releasing older games on newer console is all the rage over there.

I wonder if they'll do more add-ons. I have not been impressed with ESO. But as far as I know, all the games run variants of the same engine. ESO has the 64bit version and apparently Fallout 4 does as well. At least I get the upgrade for free as a Legendary Edition owner. Of course I've got all the HD mods installed. If they fix their ridiculously short draw distance I'll be happy. Then just the wait for skeeters to update to 64bit support. No more CTD from memory issues would make me happy as well.

But Skyrim in its current state has a vram limit of 3.1gb any usage over that the game will crash.
With the remaster and updated 64bit engine it should be able go to beyond the original vram limit which means even better results with various texture and ENB mods. Also if you already have the game on PC the remaster update is free from what I've read.

They're toying with shaders and render pipeline though. It's more than just texture resolution.

Trying to remember but isn't Skyrim 32-bit DX9? Any word on if the engine is instead 64-bit DX11 optimized?

Probably a bit unrelated but I played ESO yesterday for 10 hours strait and it must have a few memory leaks because it threw a LUA out of memory error on the UI about 8 hours in and then started have some really wonky rubber banding latency issues for that last 2 hours. I don't think ESO is the same engine the solo Bethesda games use though.

Bethesda specifically stated the 64bit option. They said certain mods like Skse will need some changes to support the new update. I'm presuming they will pull it forward to DX11 or maybe even DX12 in preparation for the next installment in the elder scrolls series.

I don't think it would be the same as ESO more like Fallout4

It might not be. Did you play the 64bit version? Apparently you have to launch the executable manually, the launcher doesn't use it by default.

Edit - It does have an option to launch 64 bit client.

so we are going to bring Skyrim from 2011 to 2016, but why not Oblivion or Morrowwind. Now those 2 games actually need an HD update with a modern game engine, Skyrim still looks fantastic at stock and mind blowing modded

Skyrim was/is A CTD fest with mods installed, not to mention the 32bit memory limits. Since Fallout 4 uses the same engine it would be simple for them to do it. And given how bad the HD pack was compared to the modded texture packs, I'll take anything they'll give me. Maybe I can finally get rid of the shape changing landscape in the distance and get real draw distance figured out.

Agreed, but if it is a whole new transission with a new graphics engine behind Skyrim, it actually would be worth while to pick it up. It will be very questionable, though, if they rank the price up to like $50+ to buy it. Then, it would not be worth it if the story is exactly like the "original".

It's a remaster of the entire game and DLC. If you already have the game and all DLC, you get it for free. Once SKSE and the mods get updated it will be a much better experience. And bundling all the DLC into the base package eliminates alot of conflicts. It will take awhile for the unofficial patches to get updated though.

If that's the case, then why are people complaining? If the answer is because they're focusing on this and not another elder scrolls, it's already in the works. So, people have nothing to complain about.

Because only updating the shaders, textures and rendering engine isn't the same thing as updating the art geometry. Some of those old DX7 TSO titles would need a total art asset re-do to bring things up to where they need to be with modern poly counts. That's not exactly cost effective. Skyrim is new enough that it's not going to overtly be an issue if they use the old poly geometry.
