Good review, you went over everything. You can actually use the side fan duct, VGA support bracket and the VGA air duct. You'd just have to rotate the side fan duct 90 degrees I believe.

Thanks, boredgunner. I hope it is apparent that the verdict is not just about the letter grade, but also the descriptive label associated with it. For the VGA bracket, I went by what it says on page 11 of the manual - "Please install either VGA bracket or side air duct" since I don't own a dual slot card currently.

Yes Cooler Master was surprised themselves when this picture was shown to them. But to be honest you really should choose one or the other. An 80mm fan on the support bracket will slow down the airflow from the 200mm fan, and the bracket itself will block the airflow.

I truly was crushed about that backplate cutout not being big enough. For a guy like me, who is switching out heatsinks frequently, this could be a deal-breaker.

I agree I switch heat sinks all the time too. The backplate is fine for LGA 775 setups but the HAF-X is uh, it's a bit past that time period. It should be the same size as the one on Corsair cases.

I shouldn't have to take a saw to a supposedly high end case, and void the warranty, because the manufacturer was negligent in the design process.

Yup, I'm re-editing some things. Plus, instead of two parts I'll be able to get the review into one because YouTube just instituted a maximum 15 minute video length.

I picked up one of these cases a bit over a week ago and I have to say I love it and do not regret buying it at all. However, they are not perfect. As mentioned in the video the CPU back plate cut out is misplaced for most common day motherboards but I would just like to add on a few more things I came across while putting together my system using this case. 1) Most important that I did not catch in time (and I am a dumbass for because when I saw the problem I went oh no, I read about this already!) is that this case has a short in the front panel that will fry the USB/Firewire chip on your mother board. The silver pins sticking out of the front panel board pierce the wire that lights the front case's LED so if you run the system with the front panel installed you will get a smoking hot chip and eventually no USB/Firewire. People have not yet reported it taking out other components on the motherboard than these but there is the heads up. This is somewhat an easy fix, even for someone not very mechanically inclined like me. The pins simply need to be made lower.. I hear people shortening them with a file, I chose to simply bend them down a bit, being careful not to cross them or contact the board with them. 2) the extra fan on the top of the case is nice for looks but is not needed. People have reported no significant changes with case temperature by adding in the second fan (Which I did). I mention this because its a pain to put in there. The front mounted USB ports simply use a USB cable to empower them and these cables make it difficult to get the top of the case back on with that second fan. Secondly, maybe I bought the wrong fans but the plastic mounting pieces of the case are too thick for the screws to attach the fan To the case.. Luckily I had a few that were just like 1/8th of an inch longer that are holding just nice.. Expect a bit of effort to get this to work. 3) The hot swap is a very nice idea, but the bottom bay is a pain in the ass to get the drive in (I was using 2 300GB Velociprator drives in a RAID0 config). On the down side, I can not seem to get my drives to even show up in the BIOS when using these slots, so I moved them to some of the internal holders. 4) The cable routing is awesome, but I would highly recommend undoing all the cable routing that is pre-done for you and putting it back in your self as to fit your board layout.. The only problem I am having is with the Rampage III mobo that I have I am connecting the additional +12V connectors for the PCIe slots and I can not find a good way to route these cables as of yet. Id just like to sum up with I -love- this case. Its quite and the air flow is awesome and the core temps idle between 13c and 24c depending on which of the 6 cores it is reading. I still recommend this case, especially if you are not tweaking the heat sinks often (Fits my Megahalems just fine), just please take care of Issue #1 so you dont have to wait for a new motherboard.. (Curse amazon changing their shipping times to 3-5 days instead of immediately!)

I hear people shortening them with a file, I chose to simply bend them down a bit, being careful not to cross them or contact the board with them. Is it just me, or does this seem to be a common issue with most cases from the super cheapos to the high-end? Just once I would like to get a front panel on a case that works correctly, is solid, and doesn't run the risk of frying something. What I really hate are the silly wire connectors that go into the USB and Firewire connectors on your motherboard. Rather than just having an industry standard block, each individual wire has its own pin that you have to place in the correct order. That seem like a minor annoyance until you realize you have 4-6 different headers to hook up at 7-9 pins a piece. Then to add insult to injury, the case designer often enough feel that your motherboard should apparently be stuffed up underneath the drive carraiges, only reason I say that is usually the front panel wires are just about that long. Just long enough to give you hope...just short enough to piss you off. Then, you have your sound wire to your sound card... If all that doesn't get to you...usually the connectors on the panel itself quickly loosen up and go out all together. I have the same exact complaints plus others about LCD fan controllers. Sorry for the rant folks, but I needed to get that off my chest. Schala

Definitely not the case I was expecting it to be. It has been sold and is outta here already. Some people have been wondering about my giving it an A- I'd just like to remind everyone that it's about more than just the grade, but also the description that goes along with it. Tagging the HAF X as a "Stellar, But Disappointing A-" is a lot different than say, "An Amazing A-"

doorules those c300 crucials are turning out to be real good runners You never know what will be in the lineup I'm really surprised how many people are so dismayed I didn't keep the HAF X. In my opinion, other than the fact that the Corsair 800D does not have enough fresh air intake for high overclocking (in which case you should be on water anyway), and is rather plain looking, I think it is a better case in every single area.
