After how Beyond Earth turned out I'm not pre-ordering. Based on BE it should take ~3 months to reach 40% off anyway.

kougar, Looking at (maybe) getting Beyond Earth. Never played Civ 5. Didn't care for Civ4. What can you tell me about Beyond Earth?

BE is terrible, though i am an avid Alpha Centuri player so I may have been jaded, but BE was just bad

Beyond Earth is a copy of Civ 5 reskinned and stripped.

seems ok, I've not got very deep into it, howeve, Civ 5 I've gotten very deep into and it's awesome. Just played it at a LAN party for 11 hours straight.

Sorry for the late reply! Civ BE is fine. It's a good game, and the new tech tree is a seriously huge improvement over the old tech tree. It makes for a much better game balance, and you aren't fighting people for the same wonders all the time. Even if you're behind you can build wonders. The AI seems weaker and is easier to beat in BE, even on the max difficulty I could beat it without cherry-picking game settings or going to war with it. Religion, culture wars/tourism, great works, great people, and world congress all do not presently exist yet in BE either. So the game has less stuff going on. Multiplayer still has issues as well, I was never able to finish a single multiplayer game ironically enough. Nobody cares to finish the games that get started and public multiplayer is too unreliable to finish a quick game. The game was really overpriced for what it offers was my main complaint. It's a good game and if you enjoyed Civ V then you should like it (a lot of things besides the tech tree are better balanced), but without the missing content that Civ V offers it feels incomplete. You should only buy it if you can snag it cheap (or later when they release a major DLC update like G&K/BNW were for Civ V).

kougar, Thanks to you and others for the information. As I stated earlier I didn't play Civ 5 and I barely got into 4 and quit. I couldn't get into it. The tech tree in 4 was a large part of the decision to scrap 4. I guess I'll wait for a sale on BE and then think about it.
