Instead of all the bloatware in a box, I would rather have a top of the line GPU die

ASIC scores aren't relevant towards a good card, and I've yet to see any information that can show these two are related. Personally, I've had gpus with ASIC score of 62 and 64% that overclocked way better than ones at 78% and 84%.

Also, how is the ASiC score related to Nvidia drivers? Have you updated your MB bios? Sometimes that can be a source of problems with newer gpus; that is if you're still running the z77 listed in your signature.

Which driver are us using? Some of them, and a lot more lately, from Nvidia are just garbage. You might try a different driver, when I've had the display driver crashing error with any Nvidia card (680,780, and 980) , a different driver fixed the issue. I'd give that a try.

As for the ROG MB is the bios a newer one?

Stop using Precision and go to Afterburner, it's so much better. Make sure you do a clean up after you uninstall first though. Are you using AI Suite from Asus? Get rid of it if you are. GeForce experience? Def get rid if that too!!

Lot of GTX780Ti K|NGP|N cards and GTX980 K|NGP|N cards have extremely low ASIC Score.
Until GTX980Ti K|NGP|N EVGA and their overclockers told us that higher ASIC don't mean nothing.
Now looks like higher ASIC are really better cards and cost more than cards with lower ASIC...
Lot of people in previous years overpriced Classified cards they get extremely low ASIC while people with Matrix, Strix,
Lightening even some cheaper EVGA cards have higher ASIC and better OC.
They change that from time to time depend how is better to their marketing, all normal people will say that...
Looks like is not possible to find 300-400 good chips and to sell them for 100$ more than other cards...
Now situation is so complicate with these ASIC diffirence that I think lot of people will only look and turn on other side.
Not only that, this philosophy completely is against all explanations and what people listen in years before.

Then why are they binning 980 Ti kingpins and charging for higher %s? Something doesn't add up then.  My last 3x980FTWs before I got rid of them due to the issues were all low 60s. My 980Ti I just had to RMA was 63.%. If they can charge for higher % scores then perhaps lower ones should garner a discount then? Same school of thought. Not saying those %'s are directly the cause of issues just giving a background on the cards I've had. My highest % asic was my 970 FTW which was 78.

People can say what they want.  Having a card with a higher ASIC score (in my opinion), makes a tremendous difference.  I had a reference Titan X with an Asic score of 80.8, and I NEVER should have got rid of that card. :(

Who cares about the ASIC score, start doing some real benchmarks, Future mark, Unigine etc,

And although the 2500K may be a great cpu, it does not help much with your ASIC score, time for an X99 and a 5960X or 5930K.

My 980 KingPin arrived Friday, absolutely love it, my very first EVGA card, only using out of the box settings so far, frame rates are off the charts high, did have some Precision X 16 stalling issues, hot swapped the SSD and all cleared up instantly, clean windows 8.1 install I guess.

Wish the white LEDs were true white instead of pinkish, but red, blue, and green look amazing.

Now I know why everyone rates EVGA cards so high, love the fan profiles, zillion Precision settings, and the goodies in the box, gave the tshirt to my fiancee washing it to soften then wearing it to bed.

Planning a 980Ti KingPin right after Christmas and a Pascal 1080 KingPin next year, ya got me hooked EVGA.

Whether evga believes asic scores make a difference doesn't matter. They noticed that the community thinks it makes a difference and are either accommodating them by pre binning to make certain scores available or are taking advantage of the illusion that has been propagated, depending on how you look at the situation. Maybe it's a little of both. At the very least, they are going the extra mile to accommodate the community of enthusiasts and you can't fault them for that.

Actually it does, has a lot to do with it. Kingpin aka Vince even talks about it. Many of us have noticed the difference with the higher ASIC quality cards.

The GTX 980Ti and the GTX 980 Kingpin editions are nowhere near the same. The GTX 980 Kingpin was binned towards lower ASIC scores on purpose to be the best potential overclockers under LN2. The GTX 980Ti Kingpin edition allows you to pick a tier of ASIC scores all the way up to 80%+

Re: IM SO SICK OF LOW ASIC SCORES!!!!!!!!! 2015/07/26 15:28:16 (permalink)
I don't understand nothing and normal people don't understand nothing.
I have nothing against binning card and searching for better silicon, even to people find there 50% ASIC.
But immediately after 10 min same customer who find 50% ASIC should show up on forum and tell my card OC excellent and confirm that manufacturer search good chips for OC not high ASIC. But we know that many people show up with unstable cards on fabric clock, with lower ASIC mostly.

But for all normal people here situation is clear, reference card cost 650$, custom cards cost 700-750$ and they don't want, obviously they don't want or don't care for 850$ to find 300-400-500 good chips. They completely make one mess and that will force people to turn and buy Matrix and Lightening immediately when they show up. They want to ask 1050$.
That's 400$ difference for cards and now immediately only highest ASIC is most expensive, How? What will happen in Europe.
    GTX980Ti KP will cost 1400e with 80 ASIC,(two GTX980Ti POSEIDON almost... that's absurd)
and after whole mess customer is still not sure what will get because we had obvious clean lies in past.
Now they will talk different story for every model, when they get low ASIC, that's better for LN2, when they want to ask 400$ more for few chips with higher ASIC than higher ASIC is best again for LN2. I don't understand.
I recommend you one thing or customers will keep only EVGA PSU in case soon, 650$ = reference, 750$ = custom, 850$ = best models with only and only binned chips tested 12-24h, if someone find some crap, instantly RMA. But looks like such politic is not good for EVGA they think they have more space and more credits, OK.
Nobody don't need to talk that understand me, I know that all normal people understand me very well no matter what they say.

Re: IM SO SICK OF LOW ASIC SCORES!!!!!!!!! 2015/07/26 15:48:26 (permalink)
And EVGA know that cards with lower ASIC is in 90% cases crap and they could make much better results with 75-85% ASIC.
Off course they rather keep for own lab such cards and for chasing records... That's maybe 50-100 cards.
Because of that customers mostly in Europe get 50-60-65 ASIC with very very expensive cards and that is not good for brand at all.
Now suddenly when they recognize that situation with 780Ti KP and 980 KP is extremely bad and leads no where they will give higher ASIC only for most expensive K|NGP|N 1050$. in Europe you can buy two GTX980Ti or TITAN X SC for that money. I must repeat that people could find good cards and with 55% ASIC, and bad cards with 85% ASIC but such situations are rear.
And EVGA will cards with good ASIC keep mostly for own lab and for small number of people in USA.
Until ASUS decide one day to put end on everything and buy all good chips from NVIDIA, than you will find good card once in 3 months.
And they start to produce cards with highest clock on market and they didn't do that with normal series as before.

I only swear in god that everything what I hear for 980 K|NGP|N I'm not sure now that model could work on air at all without crash.
I never had such impression for any graphic cards, I have some strange feeling that she need some special abnormal treatment to work on fabric clock.
And that's result of everything I hear, why I didn't had such impression for Matrix, for HOF Extreme, for other model... I don't know...
I swear now I would scare to install such card in PC because I don't know what she need to work. If that is good for future of such series OK, I will not say nothing. I say that's extremely bad and customer wants golden samples, that mean excellent on Air, excellent under water, brilliant under LN2.

I will say only this for end, Classified series didn't become popular on this way.
This is try to pull more money from people on any way from all situation no matter on anything, nothing else.
And many people will pay huge money for unstable cards, and much worse overclocker than much cheaper cards from other brands.

Vlada you are hard to follow. lol

The GTX 980 Kingpin went for $800 when they came out in February. This is no different other than the binning option that, even at the lowest end, will get you a pretty decent GPU. This is great, it seems EVGA is listening.

I wish they would go back to the old days, where a top model was in fact a premium cherry picked chip.
