Hello
Questions
1) can you mimic away of using a single card instead of sli? ( use two dvi and display port ) regardless of poor performance?

2) i have two 1280x1024 and an 1920x1080 monitor, will souround work as long as all of them run @ 1280x1024?

3) is it worth it? it just looks darn cool and i have two 19 inch monitors laying around....

4) if you mix a 1.2 Gb vram card with 2.56 gb Vram cards will the higher ram card be automaticly lowered to match the other card?  Ram total = 3.76 or 2.4 ?

thanks

    Question 1: I am pretty sure the answer is no, but will let someone else answer that one definitively.

    2. YES, lower all resolutions to the same and it will work (however all monitors need the same refresh rate)

    3. Yes I think you can SLI cards with different VRAM sizes, however only the smallest of the set can be utilized. (Again, I may be wrong on this one)

    While surround is "cool", I found it to be  huge pain in the "you know what", because like you, my monitors are different resolutions.

    @blairnorman:
    yeah, you are definitely right about #3. I didn't know about the resfresh rate needing to be the same in #2 so that's good to know.

    RE: question #1: the only single nVidia card capable of running surround vision is the GTX 590 and even then there are limitations. All the cards have limitations about how many of the connectors can be utilized simultaneously. Don't know if it's a driver restriction or even lower level. Hacked drivers *might* allow surround vision on a single card, but I'm not sure if such drivers exist AND it's NEVER a good idea to use hacked/unofficial drivers, ever. Especially to try to circumvent a manufacturer's intended use.

    If you have an older nVidia GPU capable of running dedicated PhysX, I think I read somewhere that it would allow surround vision in addition to the main GPU though. Can anyone confirm?

    Moose, I'm not quite following your last comment...

    I have 2 580's in SLi with a GTX 280 for physx (and additional monitors).

    The only way I can get the "enable surround" option to show in my control panel is to hook two monitors up to the primary 580, and one to the seconday 580.

    Are you saying I should be able to use the 280 in surround as well? Maybe I am misunderstood.

    --Keep in mind, when I tested with surround, it was several driver releases ago, they may have changed things since?

    1) No

    2) No, all monitors must share the same native resolution, refresh rate and sync polarity.In your case simply setting your higher resolution monitor to 1280x1024 will not work since that is not that monitor's native resolution.

    3) it is worth it and very cool, but will not work with your planned monitors.

    4) VRAM does not multiply with cards in SLI. If you SLI a 1.25GB card with a 2.5GB card, your total available VRAM will be 1.25GB. This is because for SLI to work, all data in one GPU's memory must be mirrored in the others so since both memory banks contain the same data you have an effective amount equal to one card or the lowest common amount shared between the 2 cards. In that case it would be 1.25GB. You'd be wasting the 2.5GB card by pairing it with a 1.25GB card.

    @blairnorman:
    I thought that if a person only had one GPU but with dedicated PhysX that they could attach the 3rd monitor to the physx. I did say I *think* I heard that so it could have been completely rumor and I apologize for the misinformation if I am wrong about it

    thanks guys

    disappointing :(
    by now we should all have plug and play support, hell nvidia should run a quick test to find the max resolution for all and set up automaticly.
