Hello, I am very new in all this. I recently built a computer together and shortly after I decided to get another graphic processor and do SLI, however, after installing the graphic card I went to windows and I saw that it was marking an error, saying it was being disabled because it was not working properly. I tried taking the card away and putting it back together with no success, the funny thing is that the first card is working, shouldnt the drivers be ok? It also marks another error with the motherboards intel graphic card, could they be interfering each other somehow? I am sure the solution is obvious and stupid I just cannot see it. Hope you guys can give me a hand,

Thanks!

What GPU are you talking about and what are your system specs? I want to know so I can place this in the appropriate category for you...

    And welcome!

As for your question in general terms... Every time you install a new or additional card, the Nvidia GPU drivers must be re-installed in order for it to work properly...

Thanks a lot for your help at the end I did switch to another graphic card, but I still would like to know what caused the problem if possible since I still consider SLI a useful feature for the future.. my specs are: GTX 580, 16gb of RAM, a GAZ68XP-UD3 motherboard, 850 watt power supply, looks like an i7 2600k for the CPU. I dont have the graphic card I used to have but I will post that as soon as I can! Once again, Thanks!

When you add an additional card, after the driver has already been installed, the SLI portion is not available as it wasn't detecting two (or more) cards linked. The SLI portion of the driver is activated when they are already connected in the system and the driver determines they are there during the installation process.

I see.. well, that makes sense now because I did instal one after the other one when the driver had already been installed. So basically I had to remove it/uninstall it and the install it again? I should had tried that... Thanks!

Or you could have just reinstalled it over itself. You just needed to have the driver install application detect the secondary card which was bridged.

I see.. well, this has made me want to retry SLI..
    I have:
EVGA 03G-P3-1595-AR GeForce GTX 580 (Fermi) Classified ULTRA 3072MB 384-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card

and I wonder if I could use SLI with:
EVGA 03G-P3-1597-AR GeForce GTX 580 (Fermi) Classified Ultra Hydro Copper 3GB 384-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card

All that seems to change is the cooling system.. but I am not sure...

Yes, you can use like cards together for SLI. As long as the series is similar they can be used together regardless of cooling solution. Essentially it's the GPU that matters (number of cores) rather than the cooling it uses.
