That is an unbelievable amount of storage.  I guess with that much space, we can expect a lot of bloated programs????

Was surprised to hear Seagate announced this publicly so soon. Sounds like the capacity race is finally moving again. Hoping these start shipping in bulk soon as to bring down the price premium for 6TB drives, and spur some competitor launches of their own drives.

Not a chance that I am purchasing another bunch of seagate drives. Had 7 out of 18 3tb drives fail in under a year in a raid 10.

That is a massive capacity though! I thought the 12 WD 6TB drives I just installed were large!

Drive preferences vary, and every manufacturer makes cheap models. Just to counterpoint, I have Seagate drives with over 5 years of power-on hour counters that I used in my NAS and still work great. I can't say the same about any WD drive I've ever owned.

"1980: IBM introduces the first gigabyte hard drive. It is the size of a refrigerator, weighs about 550 pounds, and costs $40,000".
I carry a 32gig flash drive on my keychain. It cost 20$

I am hoping when these 8TB start shipping in bulk the 6TB and lower sizes will hopefully come down in price

Nope, 8TB drives will be insanely priced at start and 6TB prices will remain the same.

Right, if 8TB and 6TB stay high, hopefully that can help push down the price of the 4TB's further than they've already dropped.  I really want to get my RAID 6 going at some point....

Hmm aren't they well below that price point? 3Tb go as low as $100 and 4Tb start somewhere around $150
