Well , my buddy called me last week & wanted me to pick him up . He needed a ride to their old house to "pick something up" . When we got there he handed me a monitor . I asked him what was he going to do with it & he said it was for me ! It's an AcerG245hq 24" monitor . That makes 3 monitors I got from him in the last 6 months . On Friday my nephew's father-in-law stopped by with a friend with 2 pcs in hand . He gave me a working Gateway w/a dual core AMD , a new 1tb hdd that I put in recently with win 7 64 bit . Also gave me the keyboard to go with it . His friend brought a Gateway FX6800-01e that wouldn't boot . Wanted me to check it . Turns out it needs a hard drive , new os (Vista 64 was corrupted) , new dvd drive and psu is weak . So I retrieved his son's data & now he doesn't want to fix it so....I made him a deal for it . Gave him $50.00 for it . It has an i7 920 & 3 gb ddr3 . Not a back week indeed . Oh and plus he paid up front for repairs !

lol, the old "ill do YOU a favor and give you 50 bux for it" scenario.... ive run into that type situation so many times. You keep doing that and youll start to see what the other side of that 50 bux turns into!! :P Pretty quick too.

Yes , I always help my buddy with his computer issues . He's a great friend . Now the other person whose PC I got was going to just give it to me since he wasn't going to repair it . I offered the money because I didn't feel right just taking it .

I got an Asus gaming laptop for a HDD case and external DVD drive. Its older but works well :)
Getting something for nothing or...next to nothing is nice. All that laptop needs is new thermal pads in the meantime I rigged a 120mm yate loon fan into a crappy laptop cooling pad. Takes idle temps from 57 to 29c on a 9800m gpu lol.

When I was recovering their photos I saw his stepson was (or maybe still is) in the armed forces (Marines) , so that made me to decide to do it . Now if I can locate an ISO of Windows Vista 64 bit I'll reinstall it on another hdd . All the copies I have are 32 bit versions .

I should of got back here sooner...I located the iso online that has both 32 & 64 bit versions . Yes , I know , yuck ! Think of it as an experiment of terror for me . Want to see for myself how bad ir was for myself . I'll replace it later with Win 7 on a cheap ssd later . No use getting an expensive one on sata 2 board (oem at that) . Now my issue is the only spare hdd I have that's greater than the 36bg Raptor I have is an older sata 1 200gb WD hdd from around 2008 ! Sorry about thge bold print , I fat fingered it...no comments...

Now if I can find out for sure if it supports sli . Read numerous articles , some say yes others no . Even owners have had mixed results . Would like to know before I move my psu & 2 470s whether it will work or not .

What motherboard do they use in those? A review on CNET says it will do xfire or SLI. With a decent PSU, you should be good. The Gateway, however, has much more promise down the road. Unlike the Dell, the FX6800-01e has a second graphics card slot, letting you double its graphics horsepower. Better, because the Intel X58 chipset support either ATI's CrossFire or Nvidia's SLI multi-3D card standards, you have complete flexibility regarding the cards you use. http://www.cnet.com/products/gateway-fx6800-01e/2/

I saw that article when looking around . I've seen one owner sli'ed 2 460s fine , where another couldn't do it with 2 295s . Guess it won't hurt to try . I'm going to use the Corsair TX950 I already have with them . I'll move the little 500w(425 actually) to the single 460 .

Ok , the 470s worked just fine (after I hooked dvi cable to correct card) . Vista on the other hand....locks up just by looking at it wrong ! So I thru in a hdd that was in my htpc that I cloned with Win 8.1 Pro....and it booted on it ? Turns out it downloaded & installed the drivers automatically to make it work on this system . Works fine except for the nag screen to reauthorize it (not on here) . I have a 60gb ssd coming from newegg next week that I'll put Win 7 on it & wipe other hdd . Only issue is those 470s do run a tad warm in there , time for more fans . Does anyone think it would be worthwile to take my H80 off the Q9550 & swap it with the stock cooler on the i7 ? They will interchange , highest temp on the i7 was 61C .
