Samsung issued an alert to customers on Monday, asking users to immediately turn off their Galaxy Note 7 smartphones -- which have been spontaneously catching fire. The unprecedented move comes one day after Samsung halted production of the dangerously glitchy devices. In a corporate statement, Samsung said it will also "ask all carrier and retail partners globally to stop sales and exchanges of the Galaxy Note 7" while it investigates the cause of the fires. It also said, "Consumers with either an original Galaxy Note 7 or replacement Galaxy Note 7 device should power down and stop using the device." Continues on... Source: CNN

I read that here as well, it really sucks for Samsung, looks like market shares will be going downl: Samsung stops all sales and exchanges of Galaxy Note 7 phonesWe are working with relevant regulatory bodies to investigate the recently reported cases involving the Galaxy Note 7. Because consumers’ safety remains our top priority, Samsung will ask all carrier and retail partners globally to stop sales and exchanges of the Galaxy Note 7 while the investigation is taking place. We remain committed to working diligently with appropriate regulatory authorities to take all necessary steps to resolve the situation. Consumers with either an original Galaxy Note 7 or replacement Galaxy Note 7 device should power down and stop using the device and take advantage of the remedies available. Samsung has temporarily halted production of the Galaxy Note 7, according to Korea’s Yonhap News Agency, and US carriers have already stopped selling the replacement Galaxy Note 7s. While the [CPSC] investigation is underway, Verizon is suspending the exchange of replacement Note 7 smartphones,” a spokeswoman told our sister site PCMag in an emailed statement. “Any Verizon customer concerned about the safety of their replacement Note 7 can take it back to the original point of purchase to exchange it for another smartphone. Verizon online customers may also exchange their replacement Note 7 smartphones at Verizon stores.” http://www.extremetech.com/mobile/237308-samsung-reportedly-suspends-galaxy-note-7-production-after-multiple-replacements-catch-fire

Another recall was not financially viable.

Hrrrm, wonder if in the fine print of the Note 7 is a disclaimer that indemnifies Samsung from class action suits? I think Samsung fanboys are going to take a bath on this one.

I've noticed significantly less iphone criticism lately. I guess it's hard to criticize when your foot is in your mouth.
Not my fault if you're offended.

I'm just curious whats causing the more than usual phones burning up. This happens to all phones(htc, lg, nexus, iphones, etc) but not enough for anyone to notice or catch the news. I had my S7, no problems here. Something like this wont turn me away from Samsung.
| EVGA Z68 FTW | EVGA GTX 780 Ti SC 3GB | EVGA GTX 560 Ti Maximum Edition | Custom EK Water Loop | Red Harbinger Cross Desk | i7 2600K @ 4.5GHz @ 1.24v | Corsair 16GB Vengeance | Corsair Neutron 256GB SSD | Corsair AX850 | Lamptron FC5V3 | ASUS VE278 27" | | Creative Inspire T6160 5.1 & X-Fi Fatal1ty 7.1 Champ | Razer Marauder & Spectre & Tiamat 7.1 | Affiliate Code: 3MHCIBME48 |

When I read such news I always feel sad in first moment and have on mind how people in company feel. But in reality they have so rich and have space for profit in future... There are very small chance that something happen with your Galaxy Note 7, but after these news no one can't leave device on bed and get out of house in store or somewhere because he could find burned house. And such information is always in head of people. It's bad if something happen in middle of plane in cargo area. This is madness, and what will happen to people at the end, and people who want to save money and didn't bought from official seller... Because always someone sell for 40-50$ cheaper and in 90% of cases everything is fine. Don't even to talk about people who bought on black marker from seller who buy 100 samples and sell them. Today only with authorized seller. iPhone 7 is 780 euro in my country on black market on cheapest place, in official store will be 1000 euro.

Apple iPhone BEST SMART PHONES. And they are best without any case. Only iPhone with tempered glass protector. That's enough protection and you can hold him with screen side on surface because you can't scratch him and original experience of iPhone is best. Example iPhone 7 128 GB Black - Matt. Excellent processor is always characteristic of iPhone because people hold them long time and for good screenshot you anyway need Nikon or Cannon at least 500-600$% worth. Cell phones camera is just for fun. If I need to bring to someone present from USA, I mean to relatives or to someone from family that would be iPhone.

Samsung should be fair now and to allow customers to replace Note 7 for some even better model. I don't know what they can offer and how much cost Note 7 compare to other devices, but that would be fair and they will lost much less money if they replace to customers for some 100$ more expensive model. If they have something like that... People who bought through official channels have no reason to afraid for their investments. I hate because now people who cursed Apple will start to talk From now only Apple, Never again Samsung, etc... It's fact that Apple is better but this is accident. Apple start investigation of battery problem as well but I can bet that it's only campaign against them and they will not find any problem. Who knows how much will Samsung pay for people who lost house on Florida, one house there cost as small village on Balkan or in East Europe. It's same for Samsung, like they burned small town in China or house on Key Biscayne.

Lmao, see what you made Vlada do, Seth? Good job. Honestly, those that don't want to mess around with their phone, want it easy and simple, just stick with the Iphone.

I've had Excellent luck with my Note 5 and also my other Samsung products (TVs, fridge, range, microwave). This doesn't deter me one bit from another Samsung phone (or Samsung product) in the future either. Due to prices I generally like to buy a "last year" model phone at a steep discount - or a used one so by then issues are generally sorted out or well documented. As stated earlier this can affect any and all brands with a lithium battery - but I'd assume that this is more obvious due to volume of units sold. I think that Samsung tried to handle this the best they could with the recall - and ultimately a stop sale. Had this been an Apple product there would have been denial for 4-6 months with a possible half-assed resolution. Antennagate, Bendgate, Touch Disease, Crackgate, Slowgate, Yellowgate, Nvidiagate. Samsung is so diversified and the GS series is still selling like crazy so I feel this will be a minor bump in the road for them in general.

I purchased the Note 5 just a couple of months ago, and love it.
iPhones are not for me. I bought an iPad just to talk to my girlfriend on FaceTime, and it is so bad that I can't stand it.... WiFi turns off after a few minutes of being on the lock screen... What is the point of that? Go ahead, tell me that isn't normal... Then explain why my old iPhone, all of my ipod, and my girlfriend iPad does the same thing. The iPhone would use cell signal until it was turned on, then it would connect to WiFi.
I had plans to get the note 7, but I am glad I picked the note 5 now, because I don't have to deal with the risk of burning my house down.
Samsung and Apple are both terrible companies that are just having a market share measuring contest, and neither deserve to be recognized as the best. I will look at LG and other brands next time.

Not only is it normal but it's a "feature" they call "hot standby" to save battery. Over the years there have been a bunch of complaints about this interfering with different apps. I use Citrix through my work iPhone sometimes and it drives me nuts because the screen will turn off and it will disconnect my session. Android phones do this too... but only if you set them to do so in settings. Guess Google figures we are smart enough to decide how we want out phone to connect.

I can't stand that feature... I need to know when I am getting a FaceTime message, and with a WiFi enabled (no cellular data) device, it is absurd that you can't receive a message or call without actively turning the screen on.

Makes zero sense, Cellular radio consumes more battery than the wifi radio, their logic is flawed

It really is. Not to mention that cellular signal fluctuations cause the phone to search, when a WiFi signal is usually consistent for the most part.
