    I suppose that's one way of attempting to counteract the MX100 series' success.

    The 840 evo is nearly a year older than the mx100, I dont think it something that they are doing to counter the mx100. Probably trying to deplete reserves for the 850 evo coming soon. There was a article that they closed the 840 production factory to renovate ir to a new ssd factory.

    Yes, but as long as the MX100s are selling for less than the 840 EVO series, people will likely opt for the MX100 over the 840 EVO, by tossing in a game they're adjusting the balance of "good deal" back in their favor (for those who would like Far Cry 4 at least).
