Hardware in my sig.
 
2 1080s FTW and I have the display port cable connected to the top card.
 
#1 Does it matter if I plug the DP monitor cable into the bottom card? I question whether both cards will run cooler this way.
#2 Recently installed windows 10. If I plug the DP cable into the bottom card now, will windows even care? Any errors, etc.?

    Top card will run cooler with monitor(s) plugged into the bottom card and the gpus temps will be closer to the same.  Also find out which card is the better card and put it on bottom.
     
    I've ran my system that way for years, no issues.

    And windows won't throw up an error now that I have changed the DP cable to the bottom card? Thanks.

    you will just need to change one back to the top card if you want to get into bios. Thats the only downside to using the bottom card.

    Yes, to see the bios splash screen and bios the monitor will have to be connected to the card in slot one.

    Yep I forgot that part.  I don't go into bios much so I forgot but when you want to see bios you have to take one of the cables and plug it into the top card to see bios then put it back after you're done.
