I was considering going with another 970 card in my system and using step up since the odds of getting a new 1070 or 1080 seem a bit dim for the near future. I remember reading that not all EVGA 970s work together. Can someone with better search than me track the info down.

Thanks,
Ian

The EVGA GTX-970 had some compatiblity issues among the different versions. See this chart to check which models will work successfully in SLI: https://www.evga.com/support/faq/afmviewfaq.aspx?faqid=59534

    Thanks,

Now it's a question of which comes first, 970 price drops given AMD Radeon 480 or 1080 FTW at newegg. Or that EVGA anniversary B-Stock event that Jacob mentioned.

This is a monster board for $459.99 after $30 MIR today only. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814487146&utm_medium=Email&utm
More than I have to spend right now so I have to pass. I think I will go with rX-480 8 GB video boards in 2-way Crossfire for my Z77 i7-2600k build I am working on right now. I figure for less money I will get equal or better performance. I could even go with 3-way Crossfire and still save money over a GTX-1080. Just the way I am leaning at the moment.

I think I've decided to either get a cheap 970 to SLI or just pay up for a 1080FTW. I'm having trouble getting 60fps in my games and the Fast Sync seems like a good thing for my needs. I tend to want to max the graphics settings and use graphical improvement mods. Really taxes the memory of a 4gb card. Since I probably won't upgrade again for another few years, it makes sense to hop on the high end bandwagon this time.

Got my 1080FTW ordered. Not gonna have to use the chart.
Now I just a minor annoyance of Nvidia driver wanting SLI connection between different generation GPUs. The FTW card is taller than my 970.

I've just RMA'd one of my 970 FTW cards which was replaced with a 970 FTW+
They won't SLi together, so I'm now RMA'ing my second card for another FTW+
10/10 to EVGA for that one.
    :)
