I upgraded from a SLI LE to a SLI 3 and I´m very disappointed by the poor performance of the Marvell controller.
I switched back to to native 3Gbit controller which gives me better performance. Use the Marvel for old HDD´s or BD-Roms if you need more than six 3Gib sata. It´s a waste of time updating Marvell drivers or bios.

Wait a minute .... everyone here I am writing to enable AHCI in the BIOS and after that since Sata III Marvell controller is automatically set sata mode to AHCI and from what I know to AHCI in the BIOS applies to SATA II ports, I'm right? If so, the inclusion in the motherboard BIOS AHCI in no way affects the controller SATAIII

I seem to have misplaced the driver disc that came with the motherboard. I need to update the Marvell Drivers, specifically what driver version should I be looking for?

Thanks

Re:SATA III/6G Firmware Update version 1701 2012/05/09 01:58:15 (permalink)
CableGriM

Hello,

I have done the firmware update and driver update for this chipset and it did seem to speed up the controller and the SSD's are working a little nicer now. However it did cause a random MV91XX.SYS error which caused a BSOD. I have tried reloading the latest drivers and tried the firmware flash again with the same thing happening.

I have been searching online and found that there are 1..0.1016 WHQL drivers for the 9128 chipset and also a  2.2.0.1125 firmware. They are listed on the station-drivers.com website, I have not tested them incase they are not compatible, maybe some of the guru's at EVGA can confirm and update the firmware and drivers list if they are.

I just want my system stable and to stop these damn MV91XX.SYS BSODs.

Cheers. :)

Tonight I was able to put an end to those MV91XX.SYS BSODs.  Not to mention the system seems quite a bit more responsive.  Upgraded a X58 FTW3 with its Marvell MV-9123 (88SE9123)Ahci/Raid Controller to the following:

BIOS:  1.0.0.1033*
Firmware:  2.2.0.1125
Boot Loader:  1.0.1.0002*
Driver:  1.2.0.1019
*Updated automatically with the firmware flash

I would post a screen cap of the Marvell Storage Utility as proof, but no links for me as I just created this account to tell of my success in the hopes that everyone can have a working SATAIII controller.

Just rolled the dice with the drivers on station-drivers.com.  Just follow the Marvell link at the top under drivers.  It's on the bottom of the next page.  It'll be listed as:  [Marvell MV-91xx (88SE91xx)Ahci/Raid ControllerPCI \ VEN_1B4B & DEV_90xx & CC_ & PCI \ VEN_1B4B & DEV_91xx & CC_)
Used a Hiren's Boot CD (USB) for the DOS firmware flash.
Just told Win7-64 to update the drivers via the browse a specific directory function.  Nothing fancy.

I'm with CableGrim,i posted a topic regarding the 2.2.0.1125 firmware but no one seems to respond, so could any evga guru construct a custom evga x58 specific ISO like the 1701 ISO ? :)

No need.  Hiren's Boot CD.  Throw your necessary files in that "HBCD" folder which becomes your C: prompt.  Navigate to your necessary folder.  All set.  I didn't even get the same error about the header I've gotten in the past with flashing this controller.

OK, I have read all 5 pages of this thread and I am still confused.

What I am considering is moving from my current Raid 0 with 2 velociraptors (Sata II) to one either Intel or Samsung 240-260G Sata III drive running out of the Marvell port in ACHI. Obviously if this works, it should give me more speed and reliability, but maybe not so much!!!

From what I have read this is probably not a good idea with this (or any) EVGA X58 board. It sounds like the board and the drive will never play nice together.

Any help appreciated.
