@sedril, BINGO. That would be me as well, duh. Would mark your post as HELPFUL if I could.
For the record, btw, the SATA III port on my mobo was not a dream to get working, but when I finally sussed it out (thanks to help from members on this forum!), it immediately increased my data transfers as measured by ATTO from max 280mbps (on SATA II) to consistently over 400, before any tweaking -- not quite the 550mbps that my Vertex 3 is supposed to be capable of, but a heckuva lot better than SATA II.
So yes, it's a compromise, but I'm very glad I bought this mobo, and I find this forum to be fantastic.
sedril How many SSD you are using or connected to SATA III port? And what kind of SSD?
Mine did that when my sata burner was attached to the marvell port, I had to move it to the intel ports then it flashed fine...

I can't speak all SSD drives out there, but for the Crucial C300 256 I was averaging 220 sequential reads on SATAII, and I am now averaging 350 on the Marvell SATAIII. All current firmware for motherboard, SSD and marvell controller installed. This is for single SSD drive on the controller.

Meh, I for one won't complain about it, not exactly like this is a tech support forum as much as an end-user one.
If they have the time to help out then that's great, if not, I can get answers elsewhere.
Um, there is no magical answer anywhere else. An answer is needed from EVGA or Marvell. You don't complain about it because you don't have a SATA III SSD, I bet you would if you had one..not all of us have PCIe drives :)
Are u using SATA III port for Vertex 3 in Raid 0?

The raid controller is on one pipeline. It would seem that the same engineer made all the boards for every board maker. Highpoint have a rocket 640 board that uses 2 SE9128 that run without issues on a 4x PCI-E. But here is the big but. Not one single motherboard runs without problems. The issue is that they are being sold as 6Gb/s which is physicaly impossible as they are running on one PCI-Express lane that has a Maximum data transfer of 500MB/s across any drive attached reading or writing. Don't blame marvell's chipset when its the motherboard makers short comings to blame.
something cool in the neighbor hood.

Hi Support! I was write mail in Marvell about problem with Marvell 88SE9128 6Gb/s Sata 3 Host Controller, but they reply me what: "The drivers that are located on our website are the only support we provide to end-users (customers that don’t have NDAs with Marvell). If you have any other support needs, you should contact the manufacturer of your computer.", so I am writing to you. 88SE9128 6Gb/s Sata 3 Host Controller with firmware 1.0.0.1701/2.2.0.1118/1.0.0.1029 in AHCI mode write with speed 235 Mb/s and read with speed 400 Mb/s, when Intel and Amd 6Gb/s Sata 3 Host Controller write with speed 500 Mb/s and read with speed 550 Mb/s. I'am was tested speeds with SSD OCZ Vertex 3 120 Gb. Do you can improve firmware for greater write speed in AHCI mode? Write speed most 400 Mb/s too. The bus PCIe ×1 that support. Thanks.

Well, fool that I am, I reflashed my controller, hoping to see a speed improvement.Instead I got BSODs galore, forcing me to move my Vertex 3 240GB back to the non-Marvell SATA II ports. It's not the end of the world, since we're looking at a drop from 400+Mbps reads to 280, but seeing those useless red ports is an itch I cannot scratch.
Sooo... Anyone got any ideas? The flash itself tells me it is successful, and I have repeated it. I have also repeatedly reinstalled the newest drivers (from inside Win7, since I know no other way to do this, and this is how I did it originally anyhow). I now can't even hitch a non-system HDD to the SATA III port and boot successfully. The Marvell control panel will load as usual when I hit CTRL-M, so the chipset appears to be alive.
Someone somewhere suggested moving the jumpers back and forth to make sure the BIOS was reset. I did that, flashing the chipset once again afterward. Success message from the batch file, but no joy.
Yes, I should have left well enough alone, since I seem to have been among the few to eke any life at all from the purported SATA III chipset, but here I am befuddled and would welcome advice once again.

I too encountered many BSOD's after updating the firmware and the driver. Uninstalling the Marvell drivers and installing the MSAHCI driver fixed all my problems. Give it a try.

@ardavan_kanani, Thanks! I can get as far as uninstalling the Marvell driver, but at that point the controller disappears on Device Manager -- so how exactly did you get the MSAHCI driver to install? Did you (1) do it inside Windows somehow or did you (2) insert the installation disk? And what did you do next? I need to be walked through this. THANKS AGAIN.

Arthur, After uninstalling the Marvel driver, from the Action menu of the Device Manager select Scan for Hardware Changes. The MSAHCI driver should automatically be detected and installed for you. Reboot and make sure that the BIOS is set to AHCI (instead of IDE or RAID). Hope this works for you.

Holy crap, Thought i give this a try just for the fun...... Be aware people......stay far far far fart far away from the marvell drivers!!!! Uninstalling and letting windows install the msahci driver is the key to success. No my speeds are right at spec and not chocked by marvell. Good trick, thanks alot.

My problem is that my drive disappears. I dont have the Marvell driver installed that I know of, and i checked my hard drive and it says that it's driver is Microsoft. However after a bit, the drive disappears and and I cant access it anymore. Any ideas? Im using the EVGA FTW3 mobo and the hard drive is a Barracuda XT 2tb drive. Thanks in advance.

I just ordered new Intel 510 SSD's for my machine and am interested in doing this flash for 6G support. I have the X58 3X SLI E760 board. My understanding is I flash the firmware, plugged the drives into my red slots (Marvell controller), set drive type to RAID (in bios?), and then enter Marvell and establish my RAID 0 setup. Is that right? Since I'm going fresh I figure now is the time to slice and dice. I don't need any special "sata" cables for 6G do I? I can use the existing cables that came with my board?

I don't think this applies to me as the X58 SLI 3 Classified I have is kinda old -- its an E760 series and I don't believe it's capable of 6G, only 3G. I didn't realize they have another SLI 3 board similar to mine but newer with USB 3 and Sata 6.

RascalChunks I'm out. I don't think this applies to me as the X58 SLI 3 Classified I have is kinda old -- its an E760 series and I don't believe it's capable of 6G, only 3G. I didn't realize they have another SLI 3 board similar to mine but newer with USB 3 and Sata 6. I believe they call that the X58 3x SLI classified as opposed to the new X58 SLI3 classified as you said.
Main (gaming) rig: i7-3930K; Asus Rampage IV Extreme; H100 W/p-p Excaliburs, AS5; MSI 7870 2GD5/OC; Crucial M4 SSD 256GB. See my primary ModsRigs: Adam for the rest, and I have a second (wife's) rig Asus Rampage III Extreme & 960: Eve. Overclocking is useless to me if it is not rock stable.

I have an EVGA X58 Classified 3 E770 with latest BIOS .82. Is ther anything else other then the MB BIOS and the SATA III/6G Firmware to bring up to date? Ctrl + M after flashing: http://imageshack.us/phot...ages/542/image631.jpg/

First time I played Skyrim I followed a rabbit into a woddy area on a snowy mountain and punched the poor thing to death and got lost.

I can't even flash the firmware saying "Physical Media Error" at the top of DOS line. At the flashing moment I don't have any drive attached to the port and SATA6 is enabled in the BIOS.
