Apparently, the rifle fires without pulling the trigger.       It's not a recall, but a fix so there's no huge lawsuit.   LOL.  The company is agreeing to replace the triggers in about 7.85 million rifles.

    They should allow owners take rifle to local gunsmiths to replace the trigger. That way customers don't have to wait weeks/months for Remington do it.

    This is SOP for firearm manufactures. They want you to ship the item to them for repair in order to insure full safety of the product.

    I read this article on yahoo news. Is this actually an issue or a fluff play? I can't recall me ever hearing about legitimate mis-fires on this rifle.

    Agreed. It is best for the manufacturer to perform on site testing to ensure proper functionality after the repair.

    I own a few 700's but I have long ago replaced the crap trigger groups in them, so I wont be sending any of mine in

    There is a documentary on netflix regarding this very issue.  Here is a link to it.  This issue has been around for quite some time apparently.  It has to do with the design of the safety mechanism.  If you bump it a certain way it will cause the firearm to discharge.  The issue has not been consistent on every singly 700 produced, but enough to generate a lot of concern and a few lawsuits.

    I had this happen to mine. It would fire as the bolt would be worked. I repaired it my self but now I will look into having Remington do the fix.

    This is old news though.... On my gun forum (ncgunowners.com) we covered this last year... You have 2 options they can ship you the fire control group and you do it yourself or ship the firearm... I replaced mine myself it's pretty easy...

    They supposedly have had this problem for a long time and are finally owning up to it. Personally id rather just replace the meh x mark trigger with a jewel or timney.
