I only have SC ACX in sli, but was playing around with PrecisionX voltages and noticed that after the change if I opened up NvInspector right afterwards it reflected the voltage setting change for a few seconds.  It might be possible to use a tool like this to get an idea about current voltage settings.

You need a multimeter. The EVBot only gives read out of your current settings. So to be assured the right amount of voltage is being applied, you have to read it with a multi/volt meter.

Ok so staying on this subject, what are realistic cons with just using an evbot, no volt meter?  I'm not talking worst case, just common occurrences...

Realistic con? Not knowing the "true" amount of voltage that's going into the card. I do not own an EVBot, so I can't say for certain, but there have been many software programs that have had small quirks where you see one setting, but there's a different value actually being fed to the card.

Honestly, you're probably safe without a volt meter being the EVBot is a nice piece of hardware. However, you're always better safe than sorry.

Personally, if I were buying a 780 Classified and an EVBot, I think I could spring another $20 for a volt meter just to know for sure everything is working as it's intended.

Gotcha, I was thinking BF4 when it comes out. I want a decent amount of fps like 60+. Med/High settings. I sometimes want to go back down to a 1920x1080 2ms 120hz monitor lol.

So is there any word as to whether the voltage tool works on retail units? Y'know, the actual selling point that lets you make use of the "eleventy billion" power phases etc.?

Hehe from what I've seen they've been maxing at ~1.175v via software. Haven't seen word of limits with evbot but I'm guessing 1.35v again.

Question on the volt meter thing where are you guys checking the card with a volt meter to verify that it is getting the right voltage? I have never really overclocked video cards before and i want to make sure I am doing this right as between the swiftech GTX 780 waterblock and EVGA classified I am dropping 800+ dollars on a video card.

Just an FYI...

The reference Swiftech 780 waterblock does "NOT" work with the Classified. If you are going Hydro, just buy the Classy that comes with the waterblock. We have not yet heard officially if they are going to sell the Classified waterblock as an accessory or not...

Who knows they keep saying next week when its actually seeming like next month honestly getting kind of annoying. Would be nice if they actually told us what the production issues were so we could all have some idea of how long this will take.

I agree, at this point it is starting to look like bad business. Either get a bigger batch and sell all, or only allow one per household

Agreed... it's really aggravating to only push out a tiny stock just to generate hype and get a few reviews out and then dry up stock for weeks(or more).

I am running a Single monitor @ 2560x1200 60Hz IPS LG unit and have my settings on high to very high with 4xAA and get 57-67fps constantly in Metro LL... Tessellation on BTW...

And 2500+ FPS in Hitman during the "Commercial" scenes lol...

This is with my Classy at factory clocks mind you...

I am quite pleased and plan on editing my original thoughts of the 2560x1600 being to much res for one Classy 780. It was bad drivers, not GPU...

For my PC gaming I want a locked 60+ FPS.  I was getting 100~120fps+ on a 2560x1440 with the SLI Titan setup in most of the games I played but I decided to ditch that for a Tri 780 or tri/quad R9-x970.  Anything below 60 however for me is a bit annoying as seeing the bumps in crap is very noticeable.

As for my console gaming I'm fine if they have a locked 30FPS.

Re:Release date of GTX 780 Classified 2013/07/23 00:51:43 (permalink)
Ok, i sent back my unopened Titan(online store) as i felt the Titan at $1030(sc version) was just a ripoff, especially since it hcas caps on it's tdp and lack of nvidia allowing non ref. coolers. Heck, no S. Cell as well, and that was the last straw.
I'll risk the 'next gen' games this fall-->summer 2014' don't need more then 3GB to run on my 120hz 3d monitor. (when maxwell hits, then i'll grab a new gpu anyway, as i upgrade every yr).

Oh..my point of this post..lol, sorry:

I have my eyes on the Classified version, but i'm not one to oc, as i don't want the gpu to get rma'ed. (maybe i'll pc a bit, but just for benchmarks only).

For the $40, is it worth it to get the Classified model over the SC?(both acx of course)

Only perks i see for the Classified are:

1) The 'Classifed' logo on the box..lol, as i'm a sucker for those things.

 2) It's factory oc'ed 30MZ more. That's not alot..heck, i'm guessing if the sc gets say..61fps in Crysis 3(19*10 -very high settings and fxaa), the classifed would give me maybe 63fps, at best?. I doubt i'll notice the 2 or so, fps difference, in games.

Would that be the case, or would i get a bit bigger performance? Because in calling evga the rep told me.--->see #3

 3) 'The Classified has a bigger coller on it'. Is this true, and does it yield cooler temps..and with it a higher gpu boost 2.0, because of it?(compared to the sc version)

 4) And other reason that would make sense for me to go for the classified over the sc? Heck $40 is not huge to me, but if only means a 1-2fps jump and a 'nicer' box, then if i'l jump on the sc version, instead. (heck at least those are selling online, and easier to grab one, rather then wait on this site, to see it finally get in stock(the one time per week for 5 min's..lol).

btw: The PS4 demo of Killzone:SF at E3, used up 3GB of vRam(google it..if you doubt me). Amazingly it ran at 30fps on the PS4's 7850 like gpu(ie..less then half the performace of a oc'ed 780/Titan). So it is (in theory) possible for a cross platform game like a Killzone(same 3GB usage ) to ask for 3GB on the pc side, correct?  Add in higher quality FSAA..higher res. monitorss...ect, and that 3GB may rise to 4GB, easily.

I'm banking developers will optimize pc code so 3GB from a PS4 game would fit on a 2GB pc gpu..or worse case 2.5GB or so.

What do you guys think about cross platform vram usage?

FWIW: It's 3am or soso if i did'nt speel check..sorry. Black Sabbath's '13' is keeping me 'head banging'..lol, for the past 4 hrs. lolproblem is i'm lucky to get 3hrs sleep before work ;)

Thanks for reading this mini novel..lol.

You forgot to mention one downside; the Classified is hardly available. Not very important of course, but worth mentioning. EVGA is telling people production will be increased, however this was several weeks ago and nothing has changed. Also the release of MSI's GTX 780 Lightning is also coming closer and closer. :)

Exactly, as last tues, as i take a 5 min break from upating the evg site (for like 3 hrs!), i come back to see it's in stock!, only to see it out of stock  on the final part of checkout.

It's about a week now, and gut feeling is evga is sending out a bunch to online retailers this week. But unless evga makes alot more(co'me on guys..make more!), these will sell out just as fast.

btw: Evga knows the sc won't sell as much once the Classified hits the online stores, so maybe they are doing this, so the sc sells as much as possible, and then the'll send out alot more classified to the online stores?

Heck, there's even a 'ftw' version due out after the classifed. 'evga rep confirmed this to me last week.

I ordered the Classified here in Norway last week, it was supposed to be here this Thursday. But now it is delayed until September :( I am considering GTX 780 Lightning if it comes out faster.

I pre-ordered 2x EVGA GTX 780 Classifieds on the 2nd of July.
And I also pre-ordered 2x MSI 780 GTX Lightning's.

Both orders were paid. So now I am waiting which one will be delivered to my home the fastest. And given the experience that I had to wait almost 2 months (!) after release date to get 2x EVGA GTX 780 SC ACX cards delivered, I guess the MSI's will be here much faster.

I am really disappointed with EVGA, because they will lose customers. Especially considering that they said 2 weeks ago that production would be increased and availability (also in Europe) would be better including for the Classifieds. However we can conclude after waiting for 2 weeks that this information was false.

Release date and availability are two different things with EVGA lately. I experienced it first hand with the GTX 780 SC ACX and now I am experiencing the same with the GTX 780 Classified.

I can only hope that MSI doesn't follow this bad example and have enough cards available in the USA / Europe on release date.

I think you should go for the Lightnings!  It seems eVGA has much more demand than supply and is not hurting for product sales at this time.  If you're not entirely patient you definitely need a backup plan  --- hope your Lightnings come first!  Then you can experience first hand MSI's support and forums ....

As mentioned before I pre-ordered (and paid also) both brands. So it really doesn't matter which ones come first, I will sell the other set for some nice profit.

And I have already experience with the MSI support and forums. So far it's good, though I hardly need them. At least for the European division. :)

... are waterblocks going to be available for the 780 Lightning cards ?
