Re:Release date of GTX 780 Classified 2013/07/16 06:31:16 (permalink)
Just a few questions, I am thinking about clicking the order button on the GTX780 Classified. But I am wondering do u need http://www.evga.com/articles/00521/ EVBOT to Adjust Voltage? I mean can I overclock the the card as much without EVBOT? I have never owned a Classified Card before so I really dont know so much about it. And also what is the DUAL BIOS for? And how is it used?

Let us not forget. "Most" buyers want a superiour product with a warranty. That requires EVGA to maintain what Nvidia instructs them to. Those that do not care about a warranty, well they know how to get around some little voltage restriction.

A superior product without a backplate.

sigh....

Look. This is the norm. Even the GTX 580 Classy was this way. But the Vanilla to Classy pricing was $50-$100 more!! $499 Vanilla, $599 Classy at release (price breaks came later)... Buy the backplate or do not. Your choice...

Sigh indeed...!

I believe Classified's came with backplate's before, but the price difference in the past was greater between Classified and non-Classified cards.

The GTX 680 Classified 4Gb card did not come with the backplate included at the $659.99 release price ...
... had to purchase it as an extra @ $19.99, if you wanted one ...

This is like deja-vu thread -------------------------> just with a "7" ...

Re:Release date of GTX 780 Classified 2013/07/16 07:11:48 (permalink)
Should I order the classified over the acx sc, if I don't overclock any more then using prec-x, to up the power target and temp?
Basically I don't like to oc, so the warranty is not voided. If both versions would give me exactly the same benchmarks, then I'd opt for the sc, as with boost 2.0 and both have the same cooler, won't both reach the same boost in full load? (also the sc version is only 26 mhz lower in base and boost, compared to the classified)
TIA

Just pure marketing, squeezing every bit of money out of the Classified. :S

I know right! I mean how dare they offer choices. Like when I go to order a burger. I want cheese, why do I have to not only tell them, I have to pay for it as well!! Darn marketers... THey should be Fired! *Calls Donald*

While the comparison is quite entertaining, many people feel that a backplate, among other "premium" benefits should be simply included in the purchase of a premium card. I'm not one of those crazy backplate lovers, but you know there are alot of people obsessed with their backplates... and those who are seem to overwhelmingly believe it should be included in the purchase of a classified tier card.

Exactly Andew_K, however it seems the moderators on this forum cannot be taken serious anymore, because they ridicule customers.

You can't be taken seriously either, since you're just going to return your Classified/Lightning if they can't hit 1400Mhz core

"Kingpin's can do it!  Why can't mine!?"

LOL, classic, and so true. I don't think the guy is possible to please, so if I were EVGA I wouldn't lose much sleep trying to do so (doubt they will) .

MaelstromOC

Yeah, it's well worth it for anyone considering purchasing a 780 period. $50 doesn't mean nearly as much at $700 as it does at a $400 price range lol.

Woah! Someone understands the term relative! I even thought the premium was reasonable in absolute terms, let alone relative.

The 780 Classy is priced 7.7% higher than than the reference 780's.

I believe the 680 Classy came out at $630 -> a 26% increase over reference 680's
Edit: Post below enlightened me it was actually $660 -> a 32% price increase over reference 680's.

The 580 Classy was at $600 vs $500 -> a 20% increase over reference 580's

And people are up in arms that a back plate is not included. Did I miss something. Was it ever included with the Classified in any generation?

Jacob mentioned that the 780 Classified was expected to ship with the backplate, but the height increase of the backplate made the card taller than pci-x standards.

My guess is that you will might run into a problem if you run three cards with the air cooler and backplate on.

I am only getting two cards so I should not have a problem.

Don't forget that you get the backplate for free with a "lesser" videocard like the GTX 770
Anyways, I don't give a crap. I am just waiting which brand will deliver the cards first to my doorstep.

Then please buy a truck load of GTX 770's that will come with a truck load of backplates so we can all be spared your non-stop complaining.

The deals available to you are very clear. They could not possibly be made more clear by EVGA. You can't seem to grasp that no amount of complaining is going to create the deal that you want.

My apologies as I looked at the wrong post, so wasn't responding to the right questions. As far as voltage, we will not know until they are in users hands. My guess is the software control is only for the Kingpins of the world. I would think they'd have came out and confirmed that it doesn't take an EVBot to overvolt if that were the case (it would only help sales). For whatever reason, they never tell you what you're really buying. We must wait to see user reviews.

As far as dual bios, many overclockers prefer multiple bios' in case one gets bricked or in case they want to run two separate bios'. For example, someone may have an LN2 bios that unlocks power, fan speed, etc. that they use for benching, but then they may switch over to the regular bios for day to day use. I absolutely love the dual bios feature. (680 Classy actually had 3)

Lets hope so
Well I just ordered my GTX780 Classified, it sure is expensive lol so I hope its worth it. I had the GTX780 ACX SC, that I have been using for 1 month but I used my 45 days return policy and sent it back. So I get the same amount back that I paid for it, and now I get the Classified + Splinter Cell

I just don't hope it will take months before I get it.

Honestly, it's the same controller (just opened it up on my comp, but unfortunately does nothing for Titans) that Kingpin used and is working for guys with 680 and 770 Classy's so I'm sure it will work with the 780 Classy.

This must be EVGA and MSI's way of getting around the Green Light Program. No official support for overvolting, but this tool magically shows up on the interwebs. I love it!

Anyways, I don't give a crap. I am just waiting which brand will deliver the cards first to my doorstep.

Because EVGA is trying to give a value proposition to a re-released product.  They know even if they don't add a free backplate the GTX 780 series will sell to the high end client who's willing to fork over the extra 250~400 dollars for that card.  However they also know that in the community that the GTX 770 is just a rehashed GTX 680, so they are adding value to the 770, so people are more willing to pick it up.

Either ways what's the major difference of paying an extra $19.99/€20 when you're already purchasing a $700 card?
