680 Classy is 4gb .....  What are they doing making the 780 version only 3gb....

it has to do the bus width that dictates what the vram will be. i found this at hardforum:

Current graphics memory chips (GDDR3, GDDR5, DDR3) come in (mostly) 32-bit bus widths (right now, no one is making 64-bit GDDR3/5), as a result you have to use multiple ICs;
For:
128-bit, you need at least 4 chips
192-bit, you need at least 6
256-bit, at least 8
384-bit, at least 12
512-bit, at least 16

GDDR3/5 ICs come in capacities ranging from 256mb (32MB) up to 2gb (256MB)

For example, a 256-bit memory bus will yield (mb = megabits, gb = gigabits:
8x256mb = 256MB
8x512mb = 512MB
8x1gb = 1GB
8x2gb = 2GB

The Radeon 7970 and 7950 use 12 2 gigabit GDDR5 chips for 3GB.

Probably not as much as you'd want. With the 680 classy, EVGA would never specifically would answer how much voltage you could put into the card with evbot. Users found out later while hoping they could go up as far as 1.8v, they were capped at 1.35v due to current sense caps on the card (that could only be bypassed with hard modding the card, not by any bios).

I'm sure they will do something similar again to cap performance.

I think you're late, or in between to the party here. They removed it from the 680 classy, but it is back in pictures/renders of the 780 classy. What else would evbot do if not modify voltages? Don't hurt your brain trying to think of something else :D

They are including EVbot on the 780 Classified. In the video from CES on June 12, it was on there and pointed out by Jacob.

Why not give the GTX 780 Classified 5120MB / 5GB 320Bit GDDR5? Which was the first planned VRAM amount for the GTX 780

Actually he is correct. Jacob confirmed in another thread that there will be no increased voltage, only power target.

Wow that sucks. Guess I'd have to blow $100 on an EPower Board and $50 on an EVbot to OV a 780 Classified... No thanks. Plus, an EPower Board voids your warranty. Guess I'lll just stick with my software voltage tweaks.

Anyway i quoted him and gave him the perfect solution for his overclock the hell out of my parts philosophy.  I'm sure putting money where his mouth/writing is and loosing warranty is no problem.

True. If you like to OC the hell out of your parts, you probably know what the risks are and wouldn't expect a warranty from putting 1.9 volts on a card.

Always been like this.  This is why its down to the EVGA Classified or the Lightning.  EVGA you'll need the EVBot to hit 1.35v (I'm just assuming that will be the limit of the Classified 780 with the EVBot) and MSI if they continue with how they did the GTX 680L should be software controllable to 1.3v.

If I'm understanding correctly, EVBot on the 780 Classy will do nothing with the voltages. It will only allow you to raise the Power Target a little higher than usual.

No....  The EVBot will allow you to permanently raise the voltage of a card.  GTX 780's are hitting 1.16~1.2, EVBot will allow you to hit 1.35v (assumption BTW) on the Classified 780.  Also the Classified version just like the 680 version will have a higher power target cap out of the box vs the reference versions.

I'm with you. I can't believe that is the case, but we will see I guess. Hopefully it can do voltages even if at a lower limit than 1.35 since EVGA will presumably be eating any RMAs for violating the Green Light program. Wouldn't be surprised to also see a fairly hefty price tag if they do end up giving voltage control knowing they'll eat the RMAs.

Ok so now I'm confused. Some have said you can only adjust power target with evbot? While others say you can achieve higher than stock voltages? (Yes, I understand how powertarget works, but why does the wording matter if you can get more voltage out of it?) Can you no longer adjust powertarget via software? Allofmywhat.

See I don't understand what sticks435 is posting.  He needs to back it up with proof, since the way you and i understand it is different.

I mean if EVBot is just gonna allow in their wording allow you to raise Power Target, what's the point?

I'm not sure anyone really knows, to be honest. Those that do are not talking right now. The way I'm imagining a Power Target adjust with EVBot is you just set a target that is above what Precision X can achieve, say 120%. So maybe you can go to 106% in Precision X, but then increase it further if you plug in an EVBot. I guess if your card could not use the full 1.2V with the software adjustable power target then having the EVBot in that case would kind of be like increasing voltage if it could then use the 1.2V after the EVBot Power Target increase.

I don't know, I'm waiting until it releases to see what the deal is. Just like last year we found out most of our information about them after they were in users' hands as EVGA seems pretty unwilling to really tell you what you're buying and the advantages/limitations of the Classified model up front.

But the EVBot on the GTX 680 Classified doesn't work like that, you, Andrew and myself already knows that.  The EVBot allows for hard volt modification of breaking past the 1.212v barrier and into 1.35v.  If its going to raise just the power target in PX software, there is absolutely no reason to buy it since a modded BIOS can do that (previous 680 Classified BIOS had it them set at 130 and 150% power target).

Yea, I know. That's why I'm confused, lol. We will just have to wait and see. I guess the only advantage of it raising the software would be that you don't have to mod your bios and void your warranty to do it, but yea I still can't imagine that EVBot would be used for that.

Saw the earlier post about antec 900 power supply.  So my question is will a corsair AX850 be enough to run SLI  780 classy with 3 hard drives and 5 fans?

I'm thinking so but i'm pretty new at this thanks!

Here is the thread and post where Jacob said Classifieds will not get higher voltage, it was in an older thread about the 780 Hydro/Classified Hydro.

Dwensel2001

Million dollar question for Jacob:

From my understanding the board partners have some control how much over-voltage they allow on the 700 series cards. Will the hydro coppers or HC Classifieds be allowed higher voltage settings from the vanilla versions? Or are all EVGA cards set to allow the highest available voltage allowed per Nvidia? Could you provide any details in this area?

I bought a 680 Hydro Copper classified, and it is a beast! But was a little disappointed that many air cooled cards could match the performance in clock rates.

Thank you!

Voltage no, power target, yes to an extent. Depending on VRM/cooling solution.

He doesn't state that for the 780 Classified, but if it is for the Classified also forget it.

MSI 780 Lightning even without voltage control i'll be able to flahs a BIOS and get Aquacomputer block vs the nasty Swiftech HC block

I personally like the Swiftech Full Waterblocks.  Maybe cosmetically it isn't as appealing as the Aqua ones but nonetheless you get great temps from both.
