I notice you have the 256 GB version, so are we saying they are the same size for the slot?  So its your boot drive and it fits in the slot?  Did you do any mods and if not, what BIOS version are you using to make it work and how did you configure it to work if you did?

Sorry for the noob questions but I have to get it out of my head. lol

Works fine as a boot drive, but think 8.1 is what you want to run.  Got the 256GB model also, worked fine on 1.12 and 1.13 bios fine without any issues.  Just enable the bottom m.2 option in 'onboard devices' (advanced tab), and boot up your uefi usb installer for 8.1, that easy.  Didn't need any drivers either, just works.  I only bothered to test 4MB reads, gets 1420MB/s-1440MB/s on every aida test   I didn't even think it was necessary to test beyond that, you'll see when you fire one up lol

The XP941 and M6e (plextor) are the only two currently available that work. They are both available in 22x80 format, so either will work with the XP941 giving best results.

I only have Windows 7 64 bit Professional and a bootable USB 3.0 stick with it.  I don't think it matters but will it still work?

It does matter, make sure the UEFI boot priority for the USB to boot properly. If you don't set UEFI, it will not work.

Not as of yet. The Samsung Magic (I think it's called) doesn't recognize the drive specifically. It may be included in the future, hopefully.

You have to install the win 7 UEFI. Unfortunately you can't just enable it.

Can you please elaborate what you mean by this?  Making the USB Bootable Win 7 stick as #1 priority UEFI and the m.2 secondary?

^You use rufus to make a uefi boot usb, then you want to make sure the normal bootmgr file is deleted on usb stick.  You want just bootmgr.efi as the boot file.  When you install os, it'll create the 4 efi partitions rather than the 2 legacy partitions.  You want to set your bios as boot uefi, then set all csm options to just uefi if you can, with video option being least likely in win7.  I couldn't disable csm for win7 to use quick boot, my 780 HC's would cause the logo screen freeze talked about everywhere.  Win8.1 works fine though, guess win7 wasn't built for this stuff

When select your boot drive, make sure it reads UEFI. I can send screen shots later, but if you have the legacy option selected during install, it will just say that it failed to load. With UEFI, it will directly load.

If you search the forums, I actually made a specific thread about loading 7 on this drive.

http://forums.evga.com/m/tm.aspx?m=2265985

Just adjust the minor changes. You will notice in the second picture the 01: UEFI DVD is highlighted. You will also notice p1: DVD at the top of the list. Make sure P1: UEFI is selected.

I guess I can't do the USB Win 7 stick I made a while ago.  Not sure which program I used to create it but don't think it is UEFI ready.  I'll connect a CD-Rom to the MB via Sata with the M.2 installed once I have it in my possession and follow the same steps posted by Scarlet.  Thanks for that scarlet as that explained it really well.  Wish I could use my USB 3.0 stick but I'll temporarily use the CD-Rom for the installation and follow the exact steps.  Thanks to you both for the info as I wouldn't have known all this was needed to make it work.

That rufus program is free and simple, just set to fat32, default block size, and uefi.  There's a little cd icon to select your iso file and line to name the volume.  Just start it and then go delete the normal bootmgr.exe file and leave the bootmgr.efi one after it's finished.  I think it's recommended to turn antivirus off when creating the usb stick.  Give it a go if you have the iso file, only takes 15 minutes or so depending on drive speed.  If you have a freeze at win7 logo when usb is loading, just turn csm's back to legacy, starting with video.  If csm can go full disable, it allows the pre os configuration page that squeezes between advanced and boot tabs.  Just about every detailed setting that can be thought of is in there for your hardware.

I created a ISO from the Windows 7 CD.  I am using RUFUS to create the USB UEFI bootable.

Do I use "MBR partition scheme for BIOS or UEFI computers" because as soon as I change it to FAT 32 I get an error because it wants it as NTFS.  I get "FAT/FAT32 can only be used for isolinux based ISO images or when the Target Type is UEFI" error.  The other options for Partition scheme are "MBR partition scheme for UEFI computer" and "GPT partition scheme for UEFI computer".  Not sure which one to pick if I can't pick the first one.

You want gpt for uefi computers (sorry forgot about that), that is the most current format.  It will work on larger disks too, should you ever need to use one temporarily.

Edit:  Here's a screenshot of that configuration page, hardware god mode

Not sure what CSM is or what it means and not sure what those images are suppose to show me.

I did make the USB UEFI last night with 2 passes which took forever lol.  Can I use the stick for future installs on all rigs without the bootmgr.exe file or do I need it for all other rigs with mechanical or regular SSD drives?

Also, not sure why I could only do it with FAT 32 on the stick but will the OS install to the M.2 via NTFS or will it all be FAT 32?

And by bigger disks, do you mean mechanical/SSD bigger than the 3TB-4TB drives for windows to recognize?

Sorry for all the questions and appreciate all the help guys.
