Been a while since I have been here. My last upgrade has kept me going for a few years but unfortunately I just lost one of my EVGA 660 SC cards in my SLI configuration. I have become accustomed to running 3 monitors with Nvidia Surround. I just purchased GTA V and started playing today when the card took a dump. Tried playing with one card single monitor and just cant go back to single display.

My current system
Intel i5 2500k @ 3.30
8 GB Ram
EVGA GA-Z68X-UD3H-B3 (v1.3)

I am looking for recommendations on a video card or cards that will give me the better or equal performance with 3 monitor surround setup.  Im assuming it will be 2 cards in order to get the surround option.  If my best choice is to get a replacement 660 I can do that but if I can get better performance by upgrading to a different card or cards I would prefer that. If Im looking at minimal performance gain by going with newer cards before I hit CPU bottleneck then I definitely prefer getting another 660.  I may be hitting bottleneck now.

Need some advise ASAP as I am watching a couple cards on eBay.  Thanks

Have you Checked with EVGA on an RMA for an SLI Setup?
Or are you out of warranty?
What is the FULL Model Number of your GTX 660 SC?

These cards were purchased new in 2012. Warranty is not that long is it ?  Or do you mean for repair ?

Or guest RMA with the GPU's serial number to get days of warranty left.

I think I was limited to 3 year warranty.  I did not register these and should have otherwise it would fall under limited lifetime.

So need recommendations on new cards or get same card.

So I just read that with the introduction of the 600 series you could run 3 display surround on one card.  So now.. is there a single card that will match or outperform 660 SLI in a 3 display surround setup ?

What's the part number? The last two letters should let you know the warranty length.

    Part number is 02G-P4-2662-KR
I cannot find a serial number. I tried entering what was on the label of the card on the page where you check warranty but it says it must be completely numerical. All the numbers on this card have numbers and letters.

Anyways, Id just keep ur working 660 and wait for the upcoming new Geforce or AMD GPU's, and save ur self some BS....

Wouldn't my system be holding this card back ? This current PC is going to be with me for quite a while. I have no plans to upgrade main board and processor. I can definitely wait if I.can expect significant performance increase on my current system specs.

Before you jump on a Pascal board make sure it is going to be compatible with your chipset. There have been known issues of the 900 series not working on older motherboards for some reason. With your Z68 motherboard it might be a hit or miss situation.

Attached an image of the stickers on the card.  It appears none are a serial number.. therefore I was not able to register.

Was looking at the EVGA GeForce GTX 980 CLASSIFIED GAMING ACX 2.0   Clocked slight higher than the 980 SC Gaming but has $100 instant rebate at the moment.

Would this be a good choice ?   If so can anyone from EVGA advise if this card will have issue with my EVGA Main Board ?

First, check the support download site for your motherboard to see if there have been any recent BIOS updates specifically addressing GPU compatibilty. Good luck.

There is no bios update that states it specifically addressed GPU compatibility and I have read about quite a few issues with the Z68.  Looks like I with either have to go with another video card or a new motherboard that will support 980 card.

    So I guess now I need recommendations for a motherboard that will support my Intel I5 2500 1155, PC3-12800 1600mHz DDR3 240-Pin.

So after talking with EVGA support it looks like my only real choice is to get another 660.  I was going to upgrade motherboard but my processor is socket 1155 and they do not carry a board that will support that socket.

So I am looking at some Z77 chipset boards since they are socket 1155. Not sure if I would have problems with that chipset and the 980 or not.  I guess what is more important is cost vs increase in performance.   So will there be enough increase in performance to merit me spending about $600 to get the 980 and a new motherboard when I can spend $200 and get another 660 ?

If the performance increase will be notable then I would appreciate recommendations on a z77 board.

Amazon has an ASRock Z77 Extreme4 motherboard in stock. http://www.amazon.com/dp/B007KTY4A6/?tag=extension-kb-20
I had used one for a while before I gave it to my sister along with my i7-2600k. IDK, if they have any issues running current 900 series video boards or not. It would be best to check their forums to see if anyone else has issues with 900 series boards or if they have found a workaround for it.

Best bang for the buck would be a Devils Canyon i7-4790k CPU with a decent motherboard like my MSI Z97 Gaming 7. IMO, the 6600k and 6700k are overpriced for a minor performance increase while the 4790k is dropping in price and is quite reasonable right now.

why would a 9xx series card be incompatabile. I had my 960 running on a P965, G31, and AMD 770 chipset just fine. I don't forsee a problem with the P67

I have no idea why. I always thought that a PCI-E interface was a PCI-E interface but if you look around there are members here that can't get a 900 series video board to work on older Intel chipset motherboards without updating their BIOS.

I was examining my bad card and have attached a few pics. Note the discoloration. Not sure if this is normal or where the card got hot.  This is around a few other areas on the board. Other than that I see nothing else. Any chance of this getting repaired or are they just toast when this happens.  It still displays but has multi colored stripes / blocks across the screen.  It will eventually lock the system.

I don't see anything wrong with the pic. That looks like residue from where they used solvent to remove soldering flux during manufacture. If the video board displays multicolored stripes and blocks when it is installed by itself then that is an indication of defective VRAM and the board needs to be replaced. If you get multicolored blocks and lines when in SLI then the SLI ribbon connector might not be making proper contact. Try reseating the SLI connector, try a different SLI connector, or try the other SLI 'fingers' on the video boards.
