I currently run a i920 at 4ghz with a evga x58 3xsli classified, asus 770gtx, ssd, and raid storage drives

It has been running since 2009 I think. I have always been satisfied with it but for a while now I have been getting problems. A lot of the problems points to a finicky motherboard and I have just about had it.

I cannot remeber all the problems but one of them is currently that I need to put my storage raid drives first before my system drive or the pc does not boot... I changed the mobo battery today and later locked up in my bios settings menu, I get lock ups on a fairly fresh windows 10 install, new psu.. I remember on one day months back the pc would not even post....

Im totally out of the loop on whats new at intel or any current technology and I need a recommendation for intel CPU, MEMORY and MOBO..Preferably a cpu powerful as the 4ghz i920 out of the box..My cpu was overclocked by a experienced techy which I paid for his services..

I would like to keep it under 1k, I seldomly game now but I want for when I do and to last another 7 years

    Nice set-up!

    However, 16GB is minimum for RAM now days... I recommend getting another 8GB kit.

    Reason is... Especially with running a SSD, you want 16GB because your OS will make a rather large paging file on your SSD and it will utilize your SSD as RAM... and lower the life expectancy of your drive by quite a bit since it will be reading/writing a lot more... I've also noticed when I run games... I can easily see 12GB of RAM usage.

    Well I found out my i920 which was at 4ghz for 6 years is now not stable, I also was stupid enough to put a new bios battery in the mobo with the sticker still on the battery bottom. I put my cpu on stock settings and now my pc is stable again..

    Now I think im going to refuse the newegg order and get a refund and keep my x58

    You may want to double check to see if they will be hitting you with restock fees first before refusing

    Newegg won't do restocking fees if it was never opened.

     the Skylake cpu you have listed at the top only has a 2/5% faster benchmark over the 4ghz i4790k devil's canyon LGA1150 (Skylake is a Waste of money IMO)

    This is what I just purchased:
    1=i4790k devil's canyon LGA1150 $279.00 (Microcenter)
    1= Z97 Clasified $231.89 (jet.com)

    And get those "HOT" RAID drives out of your case and purchase a NAS
    1=SYnology NAS 713+  $450 (Amazon)

    Total=$960.98
    Or without the NAS
    Total=$510.98

    My 2 cents

    My Buddy runs that exact same setup
    His bench marks (as far as CPU goes) are so close to mine
    it makes me wonder why i spent the extra cash on a i7 4790k

    So Yes your options sound great !!!!
