So I just got my thermal mod to apply to my 1080 and I found out that the thermal paste included in the kit wasn't in a tube. Since I had some Arctic Silver 5 laying around, I wanted to use that instead of the one supplied. However I recall seeing Youtuber mentioning they wouldn't recommend that brand when they were reapplying thermal paste on their GPU. So I wanted to ask here should I not use that paste for my GPU? Any harm in doing so? What brand should I use instead if I shouldn't use what I have? Thank you!

I used AS-5 on my 1070 FTW DT when applying a water-block over EK's choice.
AS-5 isnt conductive like the original Arctic Silver of wicked old and should not be a problem.

That's a picture of my stock TIM, as long as you dont apply with a paintball gun I think you will be OK ;)

Ahh, I was curious why some were saying not to when its listed as non-electrically conductive online, didn't know there was an older version of it. Thank you for the response!

I will note that AS-5 themselves sort of caution against being overly sloppy
Not Electrically Conductive: Arctic Silver 5 was formulated to conduct heat, not electricity. (While much safer than electrically conductive silver and copper greases, Arctic Silver 5 should be kept away from electrical traces, pins, and leads. While it is not electrically conductive, the compound is very slightly capacitive and could potentially cause problems if it bridges two close-proximity electrical paths.)
So dont be a mess with it.

AS5 also has a ridiculously long cure time. The stuff evga dupplied has no break in. Thermal Grizzly and Mx4 also have no cure time.

What about using Cooler Master MasterGel Maker Nano because it has a thermal conductivity of about 11 W/m*k (which seems to be a great value)? Does it has no cure time?

Personally would use MX4 as safer and has always given me good results when putting watercool blocks on many generations of GPU's

I think the enthusiast, carbon based goop's that are fully nonconductive, are fairly similar at this point. A healthy glob of Arctic MX-4 got temps in Tomb Raider (the game I own that runs the hottest) 5-6c lower on my 1070 SC when I did the pad mod just last night. Also a far slower ramp-up time to full temp (it creeps to full temp) and an idle temp of 30-31c! So that's nice. Now that I have taken a GPU apart I have no worries about doing so in the future and replacing the factory goop with something better.

I use MX-4 and i noted that most use 5x more than needed, it should be very very thin
