This is an interesting read.

http://www.guru3d.com/news-story/amd-radeon-r9-390r9-380r9-370-and-r9-360-series-rebrands,2.html

According to reports, the first gen HBM on AMD's upcoming "Fiji" based GPU will be limited to 4GB, and based on the SKU for the ASUS R9 390X, which clearly denotes 8GB, then the 390X is potentially not the Fiji GPU everyone is so interested in. Thoughts?

Everything I'm hearing about AMD's new GPU line is mostly rumors and all of them make it seem as if AMD is just going through the motions and just don't give a flying rat's butt about the GPU market
I say wait until they're actually release to see what they can do, but if any or all of these rumors turn out to be true then AMD might as well just through in the towel

A lot of rumors are pointing that the 300 series is hawaii, and AMD is coming out wit a titan type name branding that will be fiji with hbm. These are just rumors and we have no idea what to expect.

You should change the title of your post, cause that's not what the article says. The R9 390X or whatever it ends up being is not going to be a re-brand. But the R9 390 (Non-x) version is probably going to be a R9 290X with slightly better memory modules and maybe a little higher boost clock speed, just like what they did with the R9 280X going from a HD7970GHz edition card.

It doesnt mention anything about 390x and it being fiji. It does say this though

"Yes, there will be a new product with HBM memory, but it's not going to be called a R9 390 or 390X."

    "ASUS R9390X-DC2-8GD5"

    Along with sentence

"We know for a fact that HBM is limited to 4 GB graphics memory so that 8GB series we see in the listing can't be Fiji or anything HBM (High Bandwith Memory) based, hence the one puzzle we needed to solve was what would AMD do with Hawaii ?"

So with the knowledge that hbm and fiji can not be 8gb and asus posting that then 390x is 8gb, we can assume that the 390x is not fiji.

AMD is the king at disinformation as to keep everyone off track.. this is really close to what is going on as the 390X I think will be a refabbed Hawaii XT made by GF as the rumor was +25% performance with the fab change and then add some sweet tricks and we could be looking at +30% over 290x.. which will cover 980GTX sales.. the 390 will be also a different Hawaii Pro fabbed by GF and will take the 970GTX on..

Fiji is the new Fury card and will cover anything high end Nvidia has to offer as it's around +50-60% over 290x..

AMD plans to pull even with Nvidia in one BIG SWING of the Bat that will wipe away everything Nvidia built up since 980GTX..

AMD is the king at disinformation as to keep everyone off track...
In a perfect world, we wouldn't have rumors.  Rumors affect the current line-up sales and affect the plans of competitors, which can affect a future line-up.  Having a good hold on real info either by those that honor NDA or having well-paid employees and subcontractors is good for AMD-- but nVidia knows better than any of us since the original rumor of GTX980 Ti was coming in September moved to next week.   Plans are subject to change.

The threat is real-- not that AMD can/will beat nVidia, there is just a giant gap between Titan-X and 980 that they choose to milk as long as possible before pre-emptively filling the gap themselves instead of letting AMD fill the gap and steal nVidia customers that want better than 980 but not settle for Titan-X's MSRP.  The month of June will be interesting.

Hopefully AMD can maintain some level of rumor cluelessness with Intel as Zen approaches, it would be the cherry on top of 2016.  nVidia and Intel rumors are so much easier to fish for.

I'm willing to bet a company will reveal a lot more information about their intentions to stockholders than any end-users that read into rumors.  They know what is going on, hence still aligned with the brand; otherwise they would have left all impatient and paranoid.  No one invests on a hunch, they've done their homework, they know the risks, and they have their expectations based on what they were told that we still don't know.
