First, some info:
I bought my 1080 SC Gaming back in June. In mid September, I installed a hybrid kit. I have not experienced any oddities with this card. My temps have never gotten over 43c with the kit.
Then, my questions:
Is EVGA saying that cards produced before 8/30 do not have the VRM pads regardless of model or kit? (I can upload a picture of my original SC midplate to see what pads it has.)
Is this affecting all of their 10-series cards?

Thanks

My rig: Gigabyte X99 SLI, GTX 1080 Hybrid, Corsair Vengeance 3000Mhz RAM, Intel 6800k, Corsair 750D Obsidian Airflow Edition, Dell S2716DG 144Hz G-sync Monitor, Deepcool Captain 360 CPU Cooler.

Also, where will the provided thermal pads be placed? On the backplate, midplate, or both?

    Thanks

No. That whole 8/31 thing is related to faulty VRMs that affected 3-4% of the 1080 FTWs. Has nothing to do with thermal pads.
The cards still have thermal pads between the mid plate and the pcb. They just lack thermal pads between the mid plate and heatsink and between the pcb and back plate.

As far as we know, they'll be placed between the midplate and heatsink and between the pcb and backplate.

From my understanding it sounds like all cards which have a backplate + acx cooler didn't have the pads installed until just recently...  EVGA just recently added pads to the 1080 FTW model for testing... http://www.evga.com/thermalmod/

The pads should be added to newer cards in the next 2-3 weeks. http://forums.evga.com/FindPost/2573253

From the thermal mod article... "between the backplate and the PCB and between the baseplate and the heatsink fins."

Thanks for all that info, it is really helpful. So, since I am using a blower shroud with the hybrid instead of ACX, am I ok? I will upload a photo of my old ACX midplate later to see what pads it has.

    Thanks for all the help.
