I bought the EVGA GTX 1070 SC Gaming ACX 3.0 yesterday afternoon.
Card 08G-P4-6173-KR
It shipped last night and just arrived actually a couple minutes ago according to the tracking (not home so I can't do anything right now). I got really worried when I just found out and read about the heating issue with some of these cards and I was wondering does it 100% effect my card? Do I need to do that VBIOS install? It says on the thermalpad page that it will already be installed to cards shipped after 11/1/16. Mine shipped on 11/1/16 so I'm assuming I'll need to do it? Do I also need the thermal pads?
I don't want an issue with my new purchase, and I don't want to have to worry about things like this, but I just want to know exactly what to do before I make a decision on keeping it.
Ive been trying to read up myself to make figure out what to do so apologies if this is a repeat thread, but I want to ask specifically for myself.

If you look at the card you will easily be able to see the thermal pads if they are installed. The VBIOS probably hasn't been installed just yet, because EVGA still has to get it approved by Nvidia.
For the update on the VBIOS, you simply download it and open the file. The rest is completed by the program that evga sends out.

That hasn't been sent out yet right? The VBIOS update?
Edit I'm assuming no since you said it needs to be approved

Also does that problem include my card? I read somewhere it does and another that said it doesn't so I just want to have a clear understanding.

**edit** Just noticed you listed your part number and yes, that one is included. You can find all the affected part numbers here: Included are 1060,1070,1080 just check for yours in the list. http://forums.evga.com/EVGA-GeForce-GTX-10801070-PWM-Operating-Temperature-Update-m2573491.aspx

Yes, all ACX cards are included. You can easily use evga precision x or MSI Afterburner to adjust the fans without the bios. The bios will just set the fans higher automatically so that you don't need additional software on your system.

Okay thanks. Do you know if I should even install the card yet then? Since the VBIOS update is I believe not out yet. I don't want to have any random problems

What you could/should do for now is set your fan curve to aggressive in EVGA's Precision X program and avoid any overclocking until everything is officially squared away. Or if you are in an OK situation to wait a bit for the official solution to be available, that is a good option as well.

I would install the card personally. If there is any issues, you can get supported started sooner than later.
I don't think you will have any issues honestly.

Lets get one thing straight here. Everyone needs to do the thermal pad fix. All the new BIOS does is increase the fan speed (and noise) of the card, it does NOT fix the issue of having a incorrectly engineered cooler and it is certainly not enough to cool the VRMs to acceptable levels.

Another thing is that I didn't really want to have to take the card apart. I mean I won't mind to try but I don't want to mess anything up. Again just the part of not wanting to worry about these things with my purchase.

As evga and even gamer nexus who is independently researching the issue have already stated the cards are well within specs. Please stop pushing this misconception. Multiple independent sites have already covered this as well, as they interpret the two above sources above.

Tell that to all the users who are experiencing crashes, artifacts and even having the VRMs catch fire....the symptoms and results of VRM overheating on theses cards are WELL documented at this point..

Hi pawelblyskal, I am sorry for any confusion, but I can confirm that the GTX 1080 FTW black screen crashes were a different issue and that has since been resolved. http://forums.evga.com/FindPost/2530081 I can also confirm that the EVGA GTX 1060/1070/1080 ACX 3.0 lines of cards are running within spec, but warmer than preferred. We will be offering a VBIOS update to help with the card running warmer, that will be recommended. However the thermal pad mod is available for anyone that wants lower temperatures, but is optional. Please read our official response at: http://www.evga.com/thermalmod/.

A simple manual fan curve in afterburner or evga precision is ok too instead of changing the VBIOS ?

I've never used precision or that other program, is that going to be simple to use and I assume change fan speeds?
