McAfee is certainly not too bad. Yes it could be better but it's certainly not bad.

I found McAfee to be too much of a resource hog. Granted, it was back when I only had a Q6600 CPU and didn't overclock but it did leave a lasting impression on me and it wasn't a favorable one. I switched to AVG and have been using it ever since.

"I use McAfee and have for over 26 Years without any issue. Maybe you can share what it is that you are upset about? Most All Computers from Dell and HP and most other also come with a 1-Year subscription to McAfee Software."
And there is the answer to your own question. Just about anything that Dell and HP put on usually have to be taken off because they are resource hogs or just plain suck. Most of the computers I used to work on had McCrappy on them and either didn't catch the problem or caught a false positive and buggered stuff up.

McAfee? That is a real low. RJ, let's put it this way. The company I work for uses McAfee. Their entire system got hacked into with ransomware which mcafee could not detect, and corrupted most of everyone's Excel files. I warned them to get rid of it, but unfortunately, it's not my call.

If they have to give their software away for someone to use it, it obviously isn't really that great. Problems I've had with McAfee: Resource Hog, slows down computers Does not detect viruses, Had to use other anti-virus programs to remove active viruses McAfee thought were normal apparently. Other internet security software offer way more features for less money, and actually catch bad stuff. Not sure what McAfee is charging these days, but other software can be had for about $30 bucks for a year and includes great firewall, ad-banner blockers, and system change protection.
