Thought it might be helpful to have a thread to spread the word on projects that are (or expected to be) down.  The first is for WCG this weekend...

World Community Grid will be performing a database upgrade starting Saturday, February 28, 2015 at 03:00:00 UTC. The window for this maintenance activity is estimated to be 16 hours, although we anticipate the actual outage time will be less.

During this database upgrade, volunteer devices may not be able to fetch new research tasks or return completed work for a period of time. However the World Community Grid website will be available.

Should we also list Projects that are down due to Server or Web Site Issues?

This is a good idea.  It seems primabionca always has issues with communication.  I always struggle to get updates from that site.

GPUGRID seems to be down, and is listed as such on BOINCstats.

Not really a project but it seems Free DC is having issues. I went to look at the site today and found this message.

Tuesday March 3rd. Database Server is struggling today, so I need to take it down to see what is going on. Hopefully it's just dust. Throttling back to 1.6Ghz so causing slow updates. Plus I'm getting some errors on a drive too.
The Stats without BitcoinUtopia take a while to compute too, I may take them out for a while, not really had much feedback on them so it's likely a very small minority who use them anyway.
This hardware has been reliable but it's old now (5+ years) and I simple can't afford to replace it.

    GPUGRID: No work
We finished one of the storage filesystems and so new
work units cannot run until this is fixed.

Of course it had to happen
today. I am trying to fixing things up but it might take many hours because I am
copying a lot of data out.

DENIS@home: New WUs Generation will be paused

    Hi everyone!

We are ready to launch a new version of DENIS application, which will include more than one model, also, it will have new features for scientists like the ability to storage more parameters from the simulation.

We are working also in a new web page with more information about the project and the workunits organization, to do all that things we need to "purge" the system and prepare some scripts that will maintain the server paused this week.

We hope that the new web page and the new version of the app will be running during the next week.

    Best regards, DENIS@Home Staff.

GPUGrid: Probable access problems on 9th Dec

On 9th Dec we are moving the IP of gpugrid to another network. This means changing the DNS. While the dns update is propagating around the world you might experience that the server is unreachable.

Early next year we are going also to upgrade the server, but this is another story.

GPUGrid is running low on tasks, probably at least until Jan, 2016.

    Hi,
somebody might have noticed that we recently running low in WUs.

The main reason for this is that we have very few people at the moment. Practically only Gerard is using it. Noelia is finishing her Phd in February and mainly writing up. Nate finished in July.

The good news that we are hiring more PhD students and already from January the group should be quite a bit larger with at least two other phD students and possibly one postdoc.

Malariacontrol.net hasn't had work for a month, and will probably be down for another month or two.

    Dear malariacontrol.net community,

Apologies for not responding sooner to the lack of work-units for malariacontrol.net. We had some technical problems with our attempts to fit improved models of malaria dynamics to field data. This meant that we had to close down the generation of new work units.

We hoped that this would be a very short term problem, but over Christmas and the New Year, it was difficult to assess exactly what was going on. Unfortunately we are now faced with the challenge that for a variety of personal reasons the team members able to address these problems are currently not available, and we don’t have any spare funding that we can allocate to hiring anyone new.

We are now almost at the 10th anniversary of malariacontrol.net and we are really hoping to keep this going, but it will probably be another month or two before we can get the system up again.

Malariacontrol.net has now been going for ten years, and your contributions to this over the years have been really useful- (take a look at
    https://github.com/SwissTPH/openmalaria/wiki ).
Instead of this apology, we would really like to be sending you all a big thank you!
