Hello,
I have a GTX 750TI, EVGA, the Version with 2 fans & Displayport. The Board is a few years old X58 SlI 3, looks like this:

The problem:
I have an old ATI HD4890 graphicscard, that I would like to remove. That's not possible. I even formated my harddrive and tried to reinstall windows 8.1 64bit. But my computer is shut down automatically after some minutes. I only see a blue windows flag, the DVD-Drive is working for some minutes, then the computer switches off. So I can't install windows 8.1 64bit.
BUT I can run my computer with both graphics crads without a problem!!! I can even run a game on the GTX 750TI for example that would run fluently on the old card, or I can render with blender cycles, which only runs on CUDA. Windows 8 can install properly when I place the HD 4890 back in again. Just tried with a really old graphics card, that produces the same error. PC switching of before windows 8 instllation starts.
Bios has been reset via pressing the tiny red button for 30 secs when power cord was removed. I am writing this post on the PC right now, everthing runs smooth, but can't remove the HD 4890.
To sum it up: Problems start when I run my GTX 750TI alone. Then my pc is always shut off automatically the moment the windwos 8 flag is shown - I think it's the moment graphics driver are activated or resolution is increased (?).
I don't have any more ideas. Maybe an empty bios battery? But the system time is working fine also with disconnected lan on startup. So it shouldn't be empty. Could A bios update potentially help? The bios file for my board is a iso. Should I burn it and start my pc with the dvd in the drive to update my bios? Is this dangerous?
