World Space Week Kickoff Challenge Primegrids 7th challenge is October 3rd - the 4th, 24 hours.
Short challenge with short WUs
Start OCT 3rd 18:00 UTC  Ends Oct 4th at 18:00
SGS-LLR WUs, it is LLR so hyper thread should be turned to off.
Only WUs turned in between the start and finish will count towards the challenge.

Good chance of finding a prime number, most likely the best chance of finding a prime number of all the PG projects.

Set your system to keep no cashe of WUs, you want to finish a WU and DL a new WU.
You do not want WUs sitting on your drive waiting to be done. The first one to turn in a prime WU is the founder.

Good luck every one, hope you find a couple primes.

Very good, right on time. Can't wait to see what that beastly thing can do.

I picked up a few PSUs so I should be ready to throw some more hardware it this challenge..
Got to love ebay. Antec Platinum 750W 32$ shipped(refurb like new)
Two unused server pulls Seasonic 650w 80+ for 65$ shipped
And a Antec 650W Truepower for 31 and change. All work great and not a speck of dust.
Seasonics have two 8pin CPU power plugs and are more than enough for my AMD 2P and 3P systems. Plus I bought a couple adapters for the others.

Lets give em heck on the 3rd!!

Only a Reminder Do Not Download Any Task Before the Start Date and TIME
Myself I wait 10 minutes after the start time before I start to download tasks.

I ran a few yesterday with HT off using 3 of 4 threads (75%) and the run times were between 824 and 831 or a little under 14 min.
    2600k @ 4000Mhz.

Bill, I believe an i7-4960x is a hex core CPU, how can you have 10 tasks running for 20 minutes?

    An Intel i7-3930 hexcore Sandy-bridge @ 4.2ghz with 16gb quad channel 1866 9-10-9-25 memory
11.87 with HT off.  Six WUs crunching
25.25 with HT on   Twelve threads crunching.

Seems like HT off is the way to go.
Plus that extra 11-12 minutes doing the WU maybe the difference between being founder and double checker.

So Far the Only CPU that I will run with HT is the i7-5960X time is around 15 minutes.
    The i7-4960X now @ 4300MHz & HT Off takes about 11 minutes.
The i7-3930K Now with HT Off takes about 15 minutes.
Been having trouble with installing Windows Updates on a new Server 2012 R2.
Been working it all day today.

I plan on running a couple cores for this challenge since it is short and sweet.

So the Host Name I came up with for my new PE T630 is BoincFold
I turned On HT or as it is called on the T630 Logical Processors and the time jumped to 50 Minutes.
So it looks like I will have HT Off on my new server. That is ok because I still have 28 Cores and will run 26 of them 7x24

Programs as the work units don't typically run at a  service level. And even then, you probably aren't going to notice much of a difference here as the work units typically run at a priority 0 (or low or whatever it is in Windows). So, they will basically take the back seat to other processes. You would need to change the programs priority level manually to see any real difference and even then, you may not see much. But I could be completely misunderstanding how it works too.

Edit: I take that back, I think the science application sets the priority level...

Programs of course. Boinc is a program and so are the tasks. If you're primarily crunching, it makes sense to do program focus. Or are you actually using it as a server? Depending on the services you're running, programs is still the better choice as unless you are running lots of actual server components on that system.

That is what I was thinking BUT, the Client is the Program and the Task?
The running projects are what I was thinking are not really a program but thanks.

From some quick googling, it makes no practical difference. Also the tasks vary in whether they are service threads or regular processes. Boinc has a page that says as of version 6 it installs as a service, but looking at process Explorer some tasks are run as services under svchost while others run under explorer.exercise so wouldn't be able to start until there is a login.

TLDR: it probably makes no difference. I doubt there would be much contention for resources anyway given the use case.

I installed Sindows 10 on my T630 and it worked fine.
I want to test to see if a Non-Server OS Runs the same or Better than a Desktop OS.
    With Performance Set to Programs.

Under 7 days to show time.
This is from the PG forum challenge thread.

ATTENTION: The primality program LLR is CPU intensive; so, it is vital to have a stable system with good cooling. It does not tolerate "even the slightest of errors." Please see this post for more details on how you can "stress test" your computer. Tasks will take ~10 minutes on fast/newer computers and 30+ minutes on slower/older computers. If your computer is highly overclocked, please consider "stress testing" it. Sieving is an excellent alternative for computers that are not able to LLR. :)

Highly overclocked Haswell or Skylake (i.e., Intel Core i7, i5, and i3 -4xxx or better) computers running the application will see fastest times. Note that SGS is now running the latest, brand new FMA3 version of LLR which takes full advantage of the new Haswell features. It's faster than the previous LLR app and draws more power and produces more heat. If you have a Haswell or Skylake CPU, especially if it's overclocked or has overclocked memory, and haven't run the new FMA3 LLR before, we strongly suggest running it before the challenge while you are monitoring the temperatures.

Please, please, please make sure your machines are up to the task.

Finally a contest for Haswell systems.  I don't overclock and my DH-15 can keep up good with my current 24/7 Folding and Crunching.  Should be a good one.

    Some timings on Xeon E3-1245 V5 @3,5HGz
The two examples are both with HT/ ON, but the bottom pic is with 50% Cpu usage.
(Kinda HT/ Off simulation for lazy guy's like me )
Seems I can go with HT/ ON on those WU's.

Ahem, stuff got messy when uploading pictures.
Bottom line, with all cores running, the time was 17 mins avg.

I have been testing the Task with and without HT and found that is runs faster with HT off but still runs fine with it on.
They also run hotter with HT on.
I will be running all my Rigs with HT off now only to hope to produce more completed tasks in the 24 Hours of this Challenge.
    Best of Luck Team.
