Feb 1-28: Tour de PrimesThis is not a challenge like the other numbered challenges. This is where you try to find the most primes in the month of Feb. You can win a special badge that is only given out in this event. Our own cruncher orange_1050 won one a polkadot jersey last year Results page. http://www.primegrid.com/challenge/tdp_2017.php

Tour de Primes 2017 Welcome to the 9th annual Tour de Primes. 2 is the first prime number...and the only even one. This makes it unique among prime numbers. Therefore, February is declared Prime month...being the 2nd month of the year. :) And there's no better way to pay homage to a prime number than to go out and find one. :) More precisely, a Top 5000 prime. For the month of February, an informal competition is offered. There are no points to be gained or awards to be won...just a simple rare jersey at the end of the month to add to your badge list. No pressure or stress other than what you put on yourself. :) - Red Jersey - discoverer of largest prime
- Yellow Jersey - prime count leader (tiebreaker will be prime score)
- Green Jersey - points (prime score) leader
- Polk-a-dot Jersey - on the 19th of February we'll have a "mountain" stage and award the Polk-a-dot Jersey to the one who finds the most primes on that day (tiebreaker will be prime score for that day).
In the event of the discovery of a Sophie Germain pair or twin primes, or other discoveries that find multiple primes at once, both (or all) primes shall count towards TDP totals. Results will be available at http://www.primegrid.com/challenge/tdp_2017.php. As with the last few years, for all primes (BOINC and PRPNet) we're using the new reporting system whereby the prime's date of discovery determines whether it's eligible for the Tour de Primes. Prior to 2014, the date of verification for BOINC primes was used while the discovery date was used for PRPNet primes. The current system is more intuitive and fairer. Currently, the fastest opportunities to find Top 5000 primes is with the SGS (LLR), PPSE (LLR), and GFN-16 (65536) projects. Of course, should someone find a prime in the mega-prime searches, this would certainly give them a good shot at the green jersey. Not a guarantee, however, as in 2016 there were several mega primes found in the Tour de Primes. Overall, in 2016 we averaged about one mega prime per week for the entire year, so you might need more than "merely" a mega prime to take home green. All ports in PRPNet with the possible exception of Wall-Sun-Sun and Wieferich are also available for the competition. If an actual WSS or Wieferich prime (not a near prime) is discovered, whether or not it would count for TDP depends on whether it's reportable at T5K. To participate in BOINC SGS (LLR), PPSE (LLR), GFN-16, or any other LLR or Genefer project, all you have to do is select it in your PrimeGrid preferences. AP27 sequences are not reportable at T5K, so are not eligible for Tour de Prime. To participate in PRPNet, please see the Welcome to PRPNet thread. We strongly recommend disabling hyperthreading, or if that's not possible, only running 50% of your cores for LLR, PFGW, and Genefer (on a CPU). I.e., anything that can find primes on a CPU. This usually produces better overall performance as well as cooler temperatures. Good Luck, have fun, and enjoy! :D

Well, I am thinking I will run SGS, PPSE, GFN16 and Proth Mega Prime Search LLR Mega on my fastest overclocked sandybridge CPUs. I think on the day for the most in one day, that day, SGS and PPSE, maybe Gfn16. Still on the hunt for another mega prime find.

I just boxed and mailed my Asus RampageIII and hexcore xeon to my son in Fl. for him and the family to have. Lighten my core count a little bit. Have to figure out what else to "let go". CPU heavy and GPU light.....

Most of my primes are SGS, then PPS, plus one GFN and one PPSmega SGS, PPS and GFN16 I think are the best bet finding a prime. LLR would be best with HT off. You also want to keep the cache of WUs set to 0 plus 0 so you have no WUs sitting on your drive waiting to start, or waiting to be sent back in when done. The first person to turn in the WU gets the credit of finding the prime.

bill1024 Found a prime number. SGS 3240418526427*2^1290000-1 (388342 digits) T5K
Watch your 6 Bill, that is all I can say for now!
I am running some PG trying to figure out what I will run in the PG TDP The SGS put me in the 5000 list but way near the end. 46xx if I remember right. So they will be pushed out in no time. Will have to look for bigger primes.
So have I for the last few Days, No Primes found but test what works best together as this I think is the Only GPU & CPU Event.

I read that you should switch the BOINC client screen from tasks to projects after you are done looking at your tasks. Even if you close the window, it still uses resources to keep all that info updating. How much will it help. I do not know. But every little bit helps when seconds count. The way to find a prime, you have to turn in the WU before the doublechecker....... Again, keep the cache of WUs set to 0 so they do not sit on your hard drive waiting to be processed. Turn HT off when working on GFN, LLR If you have newer hardware, and it is overclocked PG WUs can make the CPU run a little warmer than what you're used to seeing playing games or running WCG. The PG LLR WUs will use AVX, AVX2 and other new Intel instructions other programs do not use. Don't be afraid to run them, you may have to adjust your clocks if they are running warm. Always a good idea to have clean heatsinks and Rads, if you're water cooled. Good luck everybody. PPSE is another subproject that you may find a prime running.
