I noticed tonight that the reference GTX 980 and GTX 980 Superclocked have increased in price from 24 hours ago.

The 04G-P4-2980-KR is now listed at $599 on EVGA Site and the 04G-P4-2982-KR is listed at $619.

Simultaneously, the ACX Versions 04G-P4-2981-KR is $549 and the 04G-P4-2983-KR is $569

I see no reason to buy the reference cooler design honestly but I've been waiting for the 980 Classified... should I be concerned that the price is now going to be further inflated? Will the prices of the ACX verisons be going up soon?

I noticed this first on Newegg.com cause they just raised their pricing as well for the same models.

Strange thing happens when a store raises prices on an item: more people buy it over the lower-priced items.  I'm not so sure this would happen with high-end graphics cards, since most people buying them have done their research, but I know it gave me pause and I started looking at it wondering if the ACX 2.0 SC card was still my choice...

And if you'll notice, the 04G-P4-2983-KR card has the best clocks and it's priced $50 less than the SC reference card.

So much for EVGA sticking to MSRP. Guess they did that to make Newegg happy.

I personally use microcenter for everything.  I can either order online or go to one of their stores.  Much easier than dealing with Newegg these days.

why evga why? why u break the promise which is NVidia did? u have to keep your price point lower not higher. recent new price point make me sick. I was planning to buy reference gtx 980 supercloked part number-04G-P4-2982-KR. now I have to wait more few days to drop that price. if the price not going down in future I will wait for next gen amd graphics card rather than buying gtx 980

Its quite the jerk move to up the price. They could just not play the supply and demand game and keep selling out rather than being money hungry capitalists.

Re: Price Increase? 2014/10/09 11:52:08 (permalink)
I have been buying Exclusively Evga video cards since I bought my first 7800 gtx and bought a second a month or so later since then I replace my video cards about every 2 years and am glad to say that the 7800 's are still running strong.I had a couple BFG cards before I discovered EVGA but i was so impressed with EVGA's tech help that I have never felt the need to look for another brand I know what I'm getting with EVGA  support is always competent and friendly if its ever needed and it's just a phone call away. I understand that the video card market is volatile prices change often. I have been trying to buy a 980 gtx sc reference edition card I asked on evga store to be auto-notified when it came back in stock and for some reason the email came 2 days after it was sent and they were sold out again by the time that I got it.Yesterday I noticed that they raised the price on the reference 980 cards by $50.00 which makes EVGA the only Nvidia partner to do this (not that it much matters right now since every retailer in America that I can find is sold out of 980 sc reference cards). As much as I like EVGA's support I cant justify paying $50.00 for this alone  maybe if it were an AR series card that had a lifetime warranty included in this price but they have gotten rid of that and only sell 10 year warranties now to those that want to buy them. I will wait a while before I buy another brands card to see if Evga gets rid of this price hike when the cards become available again but I just wanted to express my concern that Evga is charging more but giving less than they have in the past maybe thats what is required to compete with the other brands but I always viewed EVGA as a company that gave more to its consumers than what the others had to offer for a competitive price.

Go buy an Asus then.  It seems so many of you forget they are a business not a public service offering.  They have the best customer service out of all the other options out there.  Therefore, I have no issues with them charging a little more and paying a little more, for that service.

EVGA's store have typically been $10 or so over Newegg and some others. They're a business and if their prices were unreasonable they wouldn't make sales. The demand for the new cards is unprecedented and they'd be stupid to not charge more. I don't like it but it's business 101.

I knew those prices wouldn't last long. It's kind of nice they've been cheaper for the early adopters recently. In the past early adopters got the short end of the stick, having to pay the high price from the start.
