Honestly, I just want a reference card. EVGA just made it easier for me to choose a competitors card at the normal price. I'm just surprised the reference card is more expensive than the other models by EVGA. An uneducated person might guess their changes made the cards worse than stock. Has anyone explained that yet? I still want an EVGA card, but not at a bloated price. Maybe I am missing some vital piece of information. :)

Does anyone have a screenshot of the prices before? I was going to wait for the weekend to do my step-up, and the prices jumped. Customer care told me that the prices have been this way for weeks, but if I had any evidence of a price change to e-mail support.

LOL they definitely have not been 'that way for weeks'. Maybe last 48 hours? My GTX-980 SC cards (04G-P4-2982-KR) were ordered through EVGA on 9/30 at $569.99 each. They are now $619.99. Oh look here you go - a Google cached version from just 3 days ago at $569.99. [ link]. LOL show them that.

Got tired of waiting. Ordered in stock Asus reference 980 x2 a week ago from Newegg. $559 plus 8 bucks shipping, and they clock like beasts and barely go over 60C. First non EVGA card in 10 years. Sorry guys, but your supplies were too low :(

Strange to change prices so suddenly...but I alrdy have two 980's SC acx's on the way and im more than content..never wanted a reference card anyway. People say Acx cooler blows too much heat back into the case but when you have a nice case with great air flow like mine that isnt an issue

Yeah, I don't take screenshots of prices, but myself and others have been checking these things multiple times a day. The reference card was 549.99 and is now 599.99 on EVGA and 609.99 on Newegg.

TBH, I was surprised they were all $569 initially, but not as surprised as I am that the reference models got re-priced higher than the ACX 2.0 SC version.

Yeah that is kind of strange. I also think the 970 models are an amazing deal at around $350.

Ya i got accidently lucky twice u could say, other day i posted i finally snagged a ACX 980 off newegg by using Nowinstock.net or w/e, was asleep and heard beep so jumped up, put info in and bam said order placed. Went back to sleep and woke up like 9pm and said my card was declined and cards were now out of stock..was like motha...was quite pissed honestly lol. Was a issue on my end but anyway, next morning i fixed issue with card and didnt even re order, i just went back to newegg and punched in info again to update my payment info and it said my order had been resubmitted..was like eh ya ya ya, its gonna say out of stock blah blah..well come to find out..that actually held my card for me when card got declined and soon as i redid card info, it reprocessed the order and was sent, got my tracking info and all few hrs later..was quite shocked honestly lol. Not sure they always do that because card def was not in stock before updating my payment info and from what i read from email when card got declined was that they would hold the card for 5 days till i fixed my card issue so very cool of newegg to do that and kudos to them. Not even sure what shipping option i did as i blazed through the stuff before they sold out when i originially got the notification they were in stock lol..

If anyone from EVGA reads this, could you explain why the price was increased for Part Number: 04G-P4-2980-KR? It was listed here as $549.99 for some time, then it was increased to $599.99. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

I will be very surprised if EVGA give an explanation, prices change, they don't have to give a reason.

Supply and demand people. There's really no reason not to sell them for more from a business stand point. People are going to pay it because the world is eating these things up. Just look at the PCMasterRace reddit after launch lol.

RainStryke I knew those prices wouldn't last long. It's kind of nice they've been cheaper for the early adopters recently. In the past early adopters got the short end of the stick, having to pay the high price from the start.
Looks like there's a massive stock shortage and all the middlemen are jacking up their prices (and direct stocks are depleted) pretty much everywhere in the world. Early adopters (myself included) actually got some great deals even if the ACX2.0 wasn't around (though ACX 1 was used for 770 without issue and it draws more power than 970 and 980, so not horrible) and we have to slap on the back bracket ourselves

It's not as simple as that. If it were, the 980 SC ACX 2.0 would be more expensive than the reference models. I'm not complaining, mind...

Saying "Supply & demand. Duh" is fine, if you want to be a troll about it. As soon as I discovered there was a 900 series GPU from NVIDIA, I've been watching the EVGA for stock on the reference card. It has never been visibly available to me. I've never been notified by EVGA for this card. The same goes for Newegg. No notification and I've never seen it in stock. I also use NowInStock, and have not been notified. At this point, whoever comes out with a reference GTX 980 at 549.99 for me to order. That's who I'm getting it from. I was asking about the reason, because it's comparable to Ford listing the stock Mustang for $549.99 and the GT Mustang for $569.99. Then, without a published reason, changing the stock Mustang price to $599.99 (ie: more expensive than the GT Mustang). It doesn't make sense to me. However, I think this will be the last post I make on these forums related to availability and pricing. It's getting tiresome for me as a customer. I hope you all get the cards you want. I'm excited to play with the new series. Peace.

Doesn't it cost more to make the Titan Style cooler over the ACX? I'm just assuming this is why they raised the price. Now other company's were still offering that cooler for a lower price. Maybe they want you to buy the ACX more then the Titan cooler? Again just guessing. ;)

If I was going to pick up a 980, I'd buy Asus. EVGA used to have some extra value that they offered and their prices were a bit higher... EVGA got rid of all that extra value slowly over time. I wouldn't pay more for an EVGA card over ASUS or MSI now.

It would come as no surprise that the 970s and 980s will begin to get price increases due to extremely high demand. But what really confuses me, though, is why the previous-gen 680s are still selling for at least $550 in retailers. Since the 770s are now selling for $300, shouldn't the 680s go down to about $250? Those older flagship cards have been eclipsed by the 780 and now the 980.
