I'm using Windows 8.1 and it appears that all of my fonts are in order, but now I'm a bit paranoid.  Is there any chance that I lucked out and PrecisionX didn't bork my system files?

EVGA_JacobFLooks like this is being created by the Windows installer, we are working on it.

This is still an issue with the latest version of the software.  After moving from Windows 7 to 10 because of this issue, it resurfaced after installing the software.  Used a restore point and the issue went away.  Extremely frustrating to diagnose.

Running Windows 10 AE here and, after having used PrecisionX 5.3.11 and several versions of PrecisionX OC, the Arial Bold font in C:\Windows\Fonts remains untouched and normal.

Something related to that software is causing it.  Not sure what.  Since using the restore point, it's been completely fine.  The only other software I installed recently is some Visual Studio Redistributable packages and Origin.  The restore point removed those but, even after reinstalling them, my system is fine.

This issue is not fully resolved.  A number of users on Linus Tech Tips forums are experiencing the same issues.

+1 here.

I saw the thread over on the LTT forums. I didn't think anything of it when I saw that my font was different, until I saw the thread over at LTT. I agree that it is unfortunate this is happening, but I don't know if it is quite as crucial or a "terrible bug" like some users are describing. Again, I noticed it was different, but didn't even want to waste my time figuring out why it was different.

If the European Union Expansion Font Update fixes it, great! If it doesn't, I am totally fine with my font in my web browser being slightly different in exchange for using an EVGA card and their Precision software over the competition. I could understand if it was causing a gaping hole in the security of my system or causing me to constantly have to reboot for stability, but a font issue, to me, is small potatoes.

Generally, I would agree with your sentiment. It's a minor issue that in all likelihood does not pose any security risks. That being said, EVGA is a well-known company with plenty of resources to fix the problem. It's a bit ridiculous that such an issue would still exist after two years of releases.

Several users have been able to replicate the issue, so a fix isn't too much to ask for. I don't think I've ever come across a program that deletes pre-existing Windows files. Considering that I wiped an entire Windows 7 installation and installed Windows 10 to troubleshoot, I will probably wait until a fixed version is released.

I didn't realize this has been an ongoing thing for years. Still, for me, it isn't a huge deal, but it makes one wonder why it hasn't been addressed over the lifespan of the issue. Also, you raise another valid point; I'm not sure I have ever seen a program (with good intentions) that deletes pre-existing Windows files. This also makes one wonder why it ever did it in the first place. Is it just a byproduct of what the software does? Was it done intentionally? Surely not. Most of all, why is there no fix after 2 years?

If I had been one of the people that just couldn't live with it and had done a format and clean install, just to find out that it is PrecisionX, I probably wouldn't be too happy about the situation at all.

It's unfortunate you can't actually tag anyone on their forums, as tagging an EVGA production manager like EVGA_JacobF every month this fails to get resolved might garner some attention.
Unfortunately it's been going on for a few years now. I'm assuming they just want us all to start using MSI Afterburner instead.

Of course won't jack with your fonts. As a bonus it doesn't have the unnecessary server application.
It just seems to be a less intrusive application.
