Hello All,
I just bought a EVGA GeForce GT 740 graphics bd for my ASUS M11BB computer to work with Adobe CC. My problem is that when I try watching videos via FB they are un~View-able, but some videos I am able to watch via Youtube and some videos on my computer. It seems everything is either pixaladed and nothing that resembles video footage and it's mostly black screen.

I am using a Westinghouse LCD L1975NW monitor with the DVI connection. I did use this same monitor with the onboard video connection with no problems. I also updated EVERYTHING and with the same results.

I did run the graphics board with a generic driver and still no change. So do I need to downgrade the GeForce Drivers or?

Thanks.

    Welcome to the forums...

If you haven't tried driver 347.88 yet, give that one a try.

Try to get the latest drivers and enable GPU acceleration on any program that supports it.

Thanks, but it is still happening but not as bad. It seems most videos I try watching seem clear there are a few that show signs of pixelation, but I will watch this as I do more editing. I might try the next update to see if that fixes it.

Update on version 347.88. Now I have a Black/blank screen. I am able to get my "Windows" screen and go online with no problems, so I think I will try the next version after the 347.88. I also remember using the drivers from the cd rom that came with the bd and i am not sure if i ran it that way or if I had updated the drivers after installing. So I will try the next version and see what happens...

Do you happen to have a different PC to test your GPU in?  Maybe a friends or local PC repair shop.  Just to rule out the issue isn't the card itself.

I really don't have another pc to try it out and the pc shops may not want to do that unless a fee is involved. I do have another call into ASUS support because I feel that the two are just not compatible all that much. I could go through specs/tech notes to see where the problem might be, but it's not really my job to do that and since ASUS said that IT WOULD WORK, then they should have a solution.

I'm interested to hear what Asus gives you for a solution...

Have you tried going in to your BIOS and disabling the "on-board graphics"?  On some motherboards having this setting enabled while using a discrete GPU (your 740) can cause issue's.

bdary,  well asus came back saying the 740 is not supported and they gave me a list of bd's that I could use and by luck I have a  GeForce GT 630 which is one of the bd's that my model computer will work. Now I will try disabling the onboard graphics via BIOS. I would also like to be able to use the 740 just for the graphics power, the Cuda's. I see that the 630 has only 94 cuda's and the 740 has something 394 or so. So if I can use this 740 just for the power.

    And thanks for the help.

    You're welcome.

That's a bummer that your mobo doesn't support your 740.  It's worth a shot trying to disable the onboard graphics in BIOS, but after hearing what Asus said, it's unlikely it will help.  I'm curious to hear whether it did work or not...

So here's the final deal on this....  I went and put the 630 in with the latest drivers and it seems to be doing fine. so for now i will just deal with it and start saving up for a new computer build and then give this one to the wife. I also notice that when I went online to my home page which is Yahoo and they have a lil ad going for the new apple laptop which is a video, so this thing still shows some pixelation going on!. WHAT THE?... I did open my Adobe and ran some video's and it seem to be fine. Go Figure.

But a big thanks to everyone who helped.

Good to hear that everything is working now.  At least for the most part...

Just a side note.  If your video's run smooth and look good that are stored on your PC, but video's you watch online don't look so good, check to make sure you're browser is setup to use accelerated graphics (GPU rendering) rather than software rendering.

Well here I am Again......  Crap, crap, carp and more.....    It seems the changing of the two graphics had NO effect at all. The gt630 is doing the same as the gt740. One thing is that they performed the same in Adobe with no problems at all, so i might just reinstall the 740 because it has more processing power.

I have also ask ASUS what's going on and to see if anyone really knows what they are doing.

    Interesting.  Keep us posted.

So this issue only happens when viewing video's online and everything is fine with video's already on your PC?

Re: Poor Videos 2015/06/27 13:18:17 (permalink)
Well if i watch a video via Adobe Pr/Ae it's fine. There are some video's I can watch on my computer from a hard drive with no problems, but when i try to watch a video from the yahoo main page like news or most video's via FB that's when it's all Pixie. I am able to watch video's through Adobe's training series with no problems at this time.

But this problem is only via any graphics bd through the pcie. I did not see any problems watching video's from the graphics side of the MB. So I wonder if there is something going on any of the busses coming from the pci slots?.

i am going to try to see what repairs if any that this computer had. I bought this through B&H, so I will contact them.

I don't blame B&H for any problems, but who did the repair?

Re: Poor Videos 2015/06/27 19:18:39 (permalink)
Update. So I have a request into B&H photo to see if i can find out where this computer came from and what was wrong with it. i don't have a problem with a computer being refurbished as long as it is done right and the first time around.

So now I contacted ASUS tech support via their website/chat. So now the tech (not really) is asking all of these questions about what board I was trying to use and what trouble shooting did I do. So I went through the whole thing with all the boards I went through and different drivers. So his answer was the "Approved" graphics board may not work because of who made the board even though it was a Nvidia GeForce graphics board... WHAT?.  If you are going to recommend a type of graphics board or any board that can be added to your computer, then IT SHOULD work. If the manufacture  is going to allow add ons to it's computer then you need to make sure these boards/add ons are going to work with hours of testing.

So now I found the problem... So with all of that schooling and years working with computers and testing equipment and working at Ford Aerospace, Paid off.  So I thought about the PCIe slot that the card was set at and figured that the problem was likely the lines coming off the buss of this slot because the video play from the onboard graphics was fine. So I decided to swap the graphics bd to the other pcie slot to see the results. Well i was right, it worked just fine, well up to this point.

So i will keep playing videos to see if things acts up again. And now the fun part comes trying to get B&H or ASUS to send me a replacement motherboard.... hahahahaha. I know it's funny but I am not going to go through of deleting all of those programs and then go through reloading everything....

    Thanks.

As long as you don't plan to go SLI, using the other PCIe slot should work out fine for you.  I should have asked right off if you had more than one slot to test the card in.  For some reason I didn't think your board had more than one...

Glad to hear you found a resolution...

Well I'm contact with B&H (nothing from ASUS) and they had asked me for details again about the m/b and they said they will see what the can do, well I should say the customer rep. So I will see what they come up with.

Maybe they'll send you a different board.  At least in the meantime you can do the things you want/need to do using the 2nd PCIe slot.

Well right now I may have to run this computer until I can afford a new one which I build from scratch and screw these mfg's. It turns out that B&H will not repair this board or computer but they will take it back for a store credit.  WHAT?. And I also tried to ask ASUS if I could swap the motherboard and they told me that it was a 3rd party's board and not their problem. WOW!, what a bunch of A$$E$$.
