there's only one team we're not outproducing on average....  if we keep at it for those 15000+ days, we can get 2nd!  There's a considerable point gap and production gape coming up, breaking 30 will take a few days....  but since it is based on averages, it will improve after a day or two once new members averages level out....

I tried MM on my 48 core AMD and my new x5650 hexcore, both running H appliance.
It did not run for more than 4 seconds and errors on ever wu.
MM doesn't like Linux?

You might take a look at this thread. Something about possible missing library's in your Linux Version.

We would really like to see your 48barrels 72barells fire at MM

MM doesn't seem to care Bill... I've run it both ways.  They are short WU's so don't get hung up much.

My 4p didn't like the act-r units for MM so I opted out of those, I also had to update some stuff due to running 64 bit linux.  (I just completed my crash course in linux when I picked up my 4p, so I'm not nearly as knowledgeable as with Windows).  I was getting errors in MM and seti before updating.

 From the BOINC website:

64 Bit Considerations

If you are running 64 bit Linux and 64 bit BOINC then you might have a problem with projects that issue 32 bit applications rather than 64 bit applications. To allow 32 bit applications to run on 64 bit Linux you must install 32 bit versions of certain shared libraries. The names of the packages containing the 32 bit libraries are different for each distro.

Ubuntu

Four packages are required.
ia32-libs, libstdc++6, libstdc++5, freeglut3
Pre 9.10
Install all 4 packages at once with the following steps:
  1. Open a terminal.
  2. Enter
sudo apt-get install ia32-libs libstdc++6 libstdc++5 freeglut3

9.10 and after
sudo apt-get install ia32-libs libstdc++6 freeglut3

libstdc++5 was deprecated, some projects will not work without it, like QMC.
Download, extract and copy in the right place manually.
wget http://mirrors.kernel.org/ubuntu/pool/universe/g/gcc-3.3/libstdc++5_3.3.6-17ubuntu1_i386.deb
sudo dpkg-deb -x libstdc++5_3.3.6-17ubuntu1_i386.deb ./tmp
sudo cp ./tmp/usr/lib/* /usr/lib32/

Arrrrrgggg! Well mateys we might have a cracked cannon ball in the pile. According to MM's website we are getting close to completing all the work they had available. If I understood Tom from MM correctly he had more work in the wings ready to go. But, their website has been acting odd lately and I'm not sure what's going on over there. I left a message on their message boards and have yet to hear back.

Soooo, that being the case, if/when we run out of work I suggest you move over to Malaria Control and run it until the end of the month. That's just a suggestion though, your free to go run what ever you want.

Even if we run out of work we can call this a success. We have made it to 35 in the team rankings on Free DC. Impressive when you consider we were 193 less than a month ago. We can walk away proud knowing we Point Pillaged until there wasn't anything left to Pillage.

Looks like work is drying up from MM. All the ACT-R's tasks are completed and I am getting just a trickle for the rest. Not enough to keep both my systems running full blast. I am going to move over to Malaria Control once I finish off the few MM tasks I have left.

Sorry folks, I did not fore see this happening since Tom from MM said there was plenty of work.

If you all want to keep going by all means move over to Malaria Control. We can run that until the end of the month and then take a break for personal projects and what not.

I will wait until tomorrow evening to get the final numbers from Free DC. But, its looking like we are going to end up some where between 33 and 36 rank as a team. On the Formula Boinc front we took first place for MM giving us 25 points in that race. Good job all around. Now if I could get the admins over at the Vault off their butts to add MM to the Vault project listing I'm sure we would have a good showing there as well.

Hard to say just what is 'enough' work.  Especially when  you have a couple of 4P 48C's running the work units.

In my case enough work is defined as any work. I get nothing from the MM server since last night. I am running Malaria Control now. I keep hitting the update button for MM from time to time but I don't get anything.

I have moved over to Malaria, but thought I'd try MM just to see what happened.
Well, they seem to have some work for us now. Just downed a bunch of WU's.

Not sure what going on but if you look at the server status page you will see they have 5 to 20 tasks to send out and 11k or so in progress. I am guessing the ones ready to be sent out are some that need re ran because of errors. I have reset the project and hit update several times and I get nothing from MM. Being its the weekend I don't expect any news from Tom until Monday.

Well we ended up with 34 as a team rank on the Free DC stats listing for MM. Met my goal of at least making to 50 so I think we can call this one a success and leave MM alone while they fix what ever issue they have causing the lack of work for us to crunch.

If you have not already, jump over to Malaria Control. We have move up a rank over on the DC Vault with just one days time spent running the project.

MM has been heard from, here is what Tom has to say about running out of work. Not sure I like their timing but at least they said something about what is going on.

Hi all,

To complete some of our higher priority tasks, we had to suspend some of our other jobs in the work queue. But now that work is completing, we can incrementally unsuspend those incomplete jobs and finish collecting the data. And as you've suspected, they are primarily Baker tasks using ACT-R.

Re: Point Pillaging Trial run 2014/03/26 00:53:22 (permalink)
Looks like Malaria Control has ran out of work. A quick check of MM shows them with no work either. At this point I would say go run what ever project you folks want to. I am getting pretty discouraged by this sudden lack of work across several projects. It started with MM, then GPU Grid, now MC, and MM ran out again after having work for the last two days.

I am going to fire up SIMAP as soon as the last MC tasks finishes on my systems. Looking at SIMAP's server status it has some where around 48k tasks that need ran.

I would call this trial run a success, we pillaged all their tasks!  I am still getting a few malariacontrol units though.

WUUT.... Malaria empty too?
Well, for once I have done a clever thing. I edited my preferences to obtain work for atleast one Whole day, so I still have a bunch of WU's in my Queue.
Hope they will have some more before I run out.
For Projects who deal short wu's I tend to do this in case of the net going during weekends when I'm not there.
I had some mishaps with fah last night, failing slots, also my rig was overheating bad. All fan's went totally highwire when one Wu was working and the other failed.
Didn't even bother to look into it, I uninstalled fah Client, and started to crunch some GPUGRID instead, curious on how the 780's do there.
According to the Vauld, we could benefit from some MilkyWay work, so I'm on this later this day.

Awaiting further instructions.

 Oh, and btw. Untill just now, I didn't know the Word "Pillaging" had to google it.
The Word suits me and my Norwegian Viking ancestors just fine. Pillaging was their speciality.
I'm even called up after one of the worst one of them, "Eirik The Blood Axe" Fortunately my parents dropped the Axe thing in my name

Seems MilkyWay wants to be alone.
When MW is crunching, it put other tasks on hold.
Is this normal?
Nvm, it was driver related. GPUGRID didn't want to fire up due to old driver Version (Wonder why 327.23 was installed? )

btw. Malaria Down again

Re: Point Pillaging Trial run 2014/03/27 10:08:27 (permalink)
All these projects running out of work is a good news/bad news type of event. Good news because it means a lot of people are crunching so a lot of work is getting done. Bad news because it makes it hard to do team events aimed at one project when they run out of work every couple of days. After doing tons of reading across a bunch of different project forums I have a tip for all of you.

Pick two or three projects. Decide which one is going to be your main effort.  In my case Malaria Control is going to be my primary and  project and Mind Modeling is going to be my back up followed by Docking. Now go to your account page at  each projects website and edit your preferences for the project. Specifically your going to change the Resource Share number. Your main projects Resource Share should be left at 100. Your back up projects need to be set at a low number like 0 or 1. So in my case Malaria Control is going to be set at 100, Mind Modeling at 1, and Docking at 0.

If your running more than one system you can configure these setting so that four different systems can have their own setting simply by using the Default, Home, School, and Work preferences. Letting you set different preferences for different systems. Simply go to your account then select Computers on this Account and then click on Details setting for each different system. Then select which Location at the bottom of the page you want to set the computer to.

Its a good thing I called this first Point Pillaging run a Trial Run. I have learned a lot in this effort. I now know to have a back up project, and a back up to the back up. So, when we do this again I will list three projects so we can avoid this fumbling around trying to find a project with work for us to run.

What this does is set things up so that Malaria Control will run like normal. Then if there is no work it will move to Mind Modeling then to Docking if Mind Modeling doesn't have any work. With the Resource Share set so low the two back ups won't even try to get work until your primary project runs out of tasks.

It seems that I am little late to the party here.  I have been away from crunching for over a year and just recently returned.  I like this idea of Point Pillaging on a regular basis.  It makes me feel like I am helping the team out rather than just doing my own thing.  I figured I would hop onto MindModeling to help finish out this month, but unfortunately every work unit ended with a "computation error" on both my gaming rig and my laptop.

Re: Point Pillaging Trial run 2014/03/29 18:23:02 (permalink)
With just a few days to go before this trial run ends, here is where we stand. A few of us took Mind Modeling from 194 to 86 before this trial run began. After the trial run began we went from 86 to 33 before we ran out of work. We then switched over to Malaria Control and took it from 155 to 128 and look to hit 120 before we finish up at the end of the month.

We could have done better with both projects but the lack of work messed things up and forced us to switch projects in mid steam. Hopefully we can avoid similar issues when we do this again.

Count on visiting Malaria Control again since we did not make it into the top 100 teams for the project. Which is the goal of the Point Pillaging runs.

Welcome to the party Unclegregy! Feel free to join us running Malaria Control. We moved over to MC after MM ran out of work. Yeah, I tried to run a few MM tasks today and over half failed on me. As much as I want to help out the home team, MM is ran at a university about 30 miles from my home, I will not even bother if they do not offer a constant supply of tasks and said task run with out issues.

Its confirmed, we made it to the 120 sport in the team rankings for Malaria Control. Good job everyone!

Thus the Point Pillaging Trial Run is concluded. Even though we did not get to spend the full amount of time on one single project I still call this a success. I learned a few things about the need for a back up project, and we all got one of the projects into the top 100 and made significant gains in another. The next Pillage raid will hopefully go a bit smoother.
