This is sort of a combination of Formula Boinc and the DC Vault.  I would have to read up on it again, but I think FB awards points based on the points for the current year, so there is somewhat of a levelled playing field there, but I could be wrong.  You only get points for a rank in the project above a certain level.  And we all know how the Vault works.  What I did was take the FB project list and sorted it by our current position according to their site.  The better our position, the higher on the list it was.  Then I took our scores for the Vault projects and sorted them so the less points we have, the higher we are on the list.  Then I took those two lists and combined them, hopefully in a manner that shows which projects will offer some benefit on both lists.  Some things to note, QMC is about to be removed from the Vault, it would then drop from this list as it isn't part of FB and more than likely, Asteroids will be added to the Vault and possibly will move up on this list a few spots.
This doesn't suggest gaining a spot will be easier on projects higher on the list, and it doesn't say the benefit will be comparable on both lists, if they appear on both.  We will see more benefit at the Vault with PRP and muon1 but nothing at FB while some projects like CAS and SAT could benefit us at FB but not in the Vault.  Correlizer will give us a bigger increase at the Vault while it would be more of maintaining our position at FB.  Maybe I should have sorted the FB list reverse of how I did, but if it runs how I think it does, putting alot of resources on something like seti where we're ranked 600 won't help us as much as it would Collatz where we're ranked 12.

Majestic-12 is revamping their crawling model.  This means fewer 404s, etc.,  and it also means fewer "No more URLs available..." messages from the server.  To you, this means it is easier to harness your bandwidth!  They are in the early stages of the new crawl model being used project-wide, but so far it is going well and able to produce more new buckets faster than we can crawl.  (Sounds like a challenge!)  In fact, Alex has had to slow down the new buckets so we can clean out the old ones.  You can keep an eye on progress here.

You do not need to upgrade your client, the changes are all in the back end.  However, there may be a client upgrade coming soon which cleans up some other items.  (But don't worry, an upgrade is usually as simple as stopping the client, unzipping the new files into the old directory, and firing it right back up.)  If you've thought about helping the Majestic-12 effort, the days and weeks ahead sound like a good time to get more bang for your buck!

Very nice.  I noticed with MJ-12 it would give me high amounts of errors occasionally but it didn't seem to be on my end (config or connection).  I would tough it out and things would go back to normal.  It would also be nice to not see 100 entries of "no more url's available" in the log!

Good news!  The project crawled a record 60 TB of data yesterday.  They're still tuning things and clearing out old buckets, so this probably won't be the last record set in the near future.

Alex did say they are planning to upgrade a network bottleneck next week, then we can really unleash the hounds!

Good news indeed.  I've picked back up on this project in the past week or so and have seen my crawling success rate improve from about 70% to 90% with the new crawling method.  It's always nice to see a project make strides to improve efficiency.

While I can't work on the stats engine I'm looking forward to, I do have some plans to look at the Vault projects, comparing our production in each project to those of the teams ranked above us, and ranking those based on the number of days to gain a rank compared to the amount of Vault points we will gain....  If I don't get distracted by an idea of a game I've recently been pondering since this Early Japanese History class started....

Finally got MJ-12 to work on the Win8 machine....  Right now, it's the only non-BOINC vault project I'm running....  I've got about 30 days left of crunching before I'll be down for at least 30 days because I'm moving back to the States pretty soon....  Not so much focused on the Vault right now, just crunching everything I have....  When I get back to the States and get everything set up, I'll be reorganizing which systems are attached to what projects....

I've been absent from crunching lately except for the occasional units that my Galaxy Nexus spits out.  I had a hard drive failure and needed to give my electricity bill a rest.  I plan on getting some muon1 done until Folding M@dness starts and I will run MJ12 alongside folding throughout the contest.  I'm interested to see how the new crawling method works!

Rusty at the Vault is making preparations for adding Asteroids and removing QMC.  I think chances are good that we'll at least gain a rank from these changes....

Stephen Brooks is working on an alpha version of Muon1.  You can check out the changelog and progress in this thread.  It sounds like a lot of bug squashing, but he does include an .exe compiled with a different compiler.  He's not sure which version may be faster, or if different systems respond differently.

Excited about a muon1 update.  As for the new MJ-12 update, things have been running much more smoothly with way less errors and log entries.

Agreed on how well MJ-12 is running.  For the first time in months, I had to back off crawling for a few days to keep under AT&T's stingy usage cap of 150GB.  But I'm back crawling at my usual (read: "slow") pace until I approach that again this month.

More good news from Alex:
The new buckets are not yet doing everything I planned, there will be improvements in near future.

Received my payout from MJ-12 today.  I had to go to my paypal account to accept it and am now $0.21 richer!  Just a heads up for all you MJ-12'ers that might qualify for this.

Enigma has been added back to the vault....  We've dropped one spot and we're 1000+ points down, again....  Hopefully we'll gain some of that ground back when Asteroids finally gets added....

Looking for a Science project, but I think we need to hit Enigma and RNA World pretty hard, at least in between all of these challenges.

RNA only left with XXL WUs, very long running. I have one @70% which has already run for 735hrs (with 2600k), another 315hrs more to go. Hopefully system will not crash in the next 10+ days.

Re:"Plundering the DC Vault" - strategy thread 2013/03/23 06:04:16 (permalink)
yeah, I just realized that....  have two 4 hours in and about 7.5% and 4.2%
Enigma is still one I think we should hit pretty hard, if only to maintain our position at the Vault.  Been running dimes, mj-12 and muon1, as well....  mj-12 I've been having issues with lately, we're about 45 days from moving up one, but getting passed shortly before or after....  dimes, we need alot more work put in to make a difference, the same with muon1, but overall, I think we'll get more benefit from the time and resources with a run on boinc projects.  To move away from RNA world and the xxl tasks, I would suggest either cosmology or milkyway, with more leaning towards milkyway, as it has gpu tasks, as well.

I'm only looking at projects where we're kind of a low rank with a decent amount of vault points per rank....

Yeah, OcUK is hitting Enigma pretty hard. They´re just about to pass us there. BTW Enigma can be run on your Androids via Native Boinc, and has rather quick turnaround there unlike some other projects

Anyone knows whats up with Dimes? We dropped 800 spots, or is it just a stats glitch?
