How is one suppose to "test" if nothing works?? I have tried another mouse but since none of the ports work the mouse doesn't work....

This is so freaking dumb. I just want it fixed!!

96accord,
It seems many people just have to turn off the PC, flip the PSU switch on the back and wait 10 minutes, then flip it back on.  That's enough for many people to get it to work again.  Others, such as myself, also need to remove the CMOS battery for ten minutes, then reconfigure the BIOS settings.

we are more than happy to work with you on the issue,    but we have tried tirelessly to reproduce the issue,   and we cannot get it to occur for us,   so that leads to the fact that there must be another device that is causing the failure.

IE*  if your front panel header is shorted out and you have it plugged into the board it can short the usb on teh board causing failures, drop outs, or just a complete cease of functionality.

Have you built an exact same system to reproduce the issue? Or did you substitute other components?
And many times it has taken weeks for this prob to occur.

Edit: It would make us feel better that you are trying to fix the prob if you are testing over extended periods of time too.

Shannon,
I really do appreciate EVGA's support.  As I said before when we were on the phone, when it comes to your friendliness and willingness to go above and beyond, you rival Apple.  However, this is a pretty serious issue that I want to work with you as best I can to offer whatever reports or troubleshooting I can.  I've valued your RMA policy, and even paid for the new CPU mount in my first RMA'd board to help you diagnose the problem.  All this said, there is still a problem and we need to get to the bottom of it.

Could you please explain what you meant in your list of ideas by "Addressing conflict."  this is the only one that I'm unaware of how to test and am more than willing to do so.

In the other thread, it was also mentioned that we might need to manually set an "IRQ."  I am also unfamiliar with this, and am more than willing to try to see if this will resolve this problem.

We will assist you with evga products,   but as a whole this has been tested and is not an issue with our board,   we will assist you the best we can with our products, however like i stated this can be a multitude of issues.   it can be almost any product in your system causing such issues.

EVGA is very serious about investigating issues,   and if this was a widespread issue with the board itself there would already be a fix in the works.   however as we cannot get the same failures to happen,  we can suggest how for you to diagnose your system,   but unfortunately it would be something in your system causing it.

as for the addressing conflict,   that has to do with how everything is seen and assigned a memory address.   if 2 products use a similar or same memory address it can cause a conflict or issue causing a device to fail.

Shannon,
I have tried many different system configs on this board.
This statement includes
2 different PSU's
2 different mice
2 different keybaords (one PS2 and one USB)
2 different CPU's
2 different monitors
2 different graphics cards
3 different installed OS's and one live OS (XP, XP 64 bit, and Windows 7 64 Bit installed, one Ubuntu live disk)
2 different varieties of RAM.
2 different hard disks.
The only thing that remains unchanged is my case, which I will unplug the front panel tonight to test.
All of these variations have resulted in the same USB error.
With all this said, the only commonality I have encountered is the EVGA motherboard.  This is why I am turning to your support team.

I understand that it is tricky to replicate, as it can happen after a few minutes, or it can take days.  That's why I'm willing to contribute in whatever way I can to the solution.

Not only that, I have been on other forums, and searched the Internet, if this is not EVGA-specific, then why is it that this is the only place there is significant complaints of this happening? I MUST conclude it is mobo-related.

We are one of the biggest company support forums when it comes to computer component manufacturers and also we have a huge community.  I believe if a problem is to be found you will most prevalently find it here.

as for the issue at hand,  Like I previously stated,   something uged into the board including front panel headers can short it out.   once that is done the board can very well be damaged.  If that is the case plase contact our support line and we can replace it for you.

Shannon,
This is quite possible.  I will call the tech support line later tonight when I'm home and around the computer.
However, if my case's front panel is defective and is shorting out the USB interface, then the board that was RMA'd and that I paid to have repaired so that you can troubleshoot the cause will have this damage.  This would be a board that is already in your possession that you could test for this.

I have a suggestion.

I have read this whole thread and since EVGA can't reproduce this problem yet it seems to persist (especially after multiple rma's) for certain people/configurations...

What if someone sent their system to Tech support so that they could experience the problem hands on and work with a system that is currently misbehaving.  In turn, allowing them to completely control all the variables that may concern them in diagnosing the problem to or away from their hardware.

Possibly evga could help with the shipping costs.

I realize the inconvenience but it can't be any worse than having fought this for several months.

Just a thought.......

we are more than happy to work with you on the issue,    but we have tried tirelessly to reproduce the issue,   and we cannot get it to occur for us,   so that leads to the fact that there must be another device that is causing the failure.

IE*  if your front panel header is shorted out and you have it plugged into the board it can short the usb on teh board causing failures, drop outs, or just a complete cease of functionality.

hi shannon can you tell us what mobo and mouse-kb combos are you using? what about bios? im just curious since your not having any issues im curious of your hardware config......like the main gaming computer you use not just the benching one. i belive youve tried to get the issue i have dealt with ya on the phone and your a good guy to deal with but i like everyone here are tired of the issue......not your fault but we as consumers feel ripped on the issue. i have tried all suggesions on every thread i read i dont even have my front panel connected. im now  starting to have sata issues on mine as well (if usb wasnt bad enough) now im losing my hdd's they wont always be detectd during bootup have to sometimes restart 2-3 times then im fine. im now a beleiver that its a southbridge issue since both usb controller AND sata are all connected to the southbrdige. i ad mit thers one thing only i havent tried what the heck is a irq? and could you explain for us all ....how aRE THEY setup....WHERE are they setup? what settings and where/how

thanks
