ok soo to update....i upped the southbridge voltage from the stock voltage to 1.1 in the bios and have purposely left it idling and for abou tthe last 3 hours it hasnt had a lockup!!! .............yay!!!! im happy soooo far time will tell if this is a permanant fix!!! but, for once im again hopefull! if anyone here sees this post please try this if you have the evga e760. i bumped it from the stock "auto" to the setting of 1.1 it was the setting that reads "ich" thats important since theres 2 or more setting that have that name.
sooo far..............so good! illll report back after i give a bit more time..... wish me luck and thanks major to "noodlegts" for the voltage idea!!!

Someone has pointed to realtec drivers being an issue.  I am having similar startup and freeze issues as well.  i'm wondering if the realtec software is creating some of these issues.  If you do a google search, it seems usb freeze issues as well as other startup freeze/problems have been posted from the driver/controller.

The problem for me is intermittent...so it's hard to pinpoint the damn thing.  That's more frustrating than ever. Try disabling or removing the reatek software to see if there are any improvements/changes.  I'm doing this as well...but as mentioned unfortunitly, I have it happen at random intervals.

I for one have had enough tonight playing COD:MW2 with every 3 -10 minutes the mouse now dropping out and the end result is me being shot in the eye.  The cat has had enough of being kicked.

I also have this problem
I thought it was just me and i've wasted 3 days trying to fix this!

Firbrd,

Make sure you remove all drivers from realtek...the original member who noted the problem in the first place posted this program which works well: http://www.guru3d.com/category/driversweeper/

You can also try reinstalling windows too...and don't install the realtek stuff.  Thanks to EVGA, I've reformatted and reinstalled windows probably 15-20 times already trying differnet scenerios.

The board has nice features and overclocks easily but who cares if you can't even get a stable version work non-overclocked.  As mentioned, it could be a driver/software/hardware conflict...BUT the problem child may be the motherboard is just too damn picky and only works flawless with ONE particular setup with bios setting tweaked a particular way.  I don't have time to deal with this crap like this...who wants to screw with settings night and day only to find the computer still locks either during use or during startup!!!

I've never had these issues with any other computer build.

For those of you with problems, can you list what you're using? Complete specs, including everything plugged in and case etc. It would help others who may have this issue down the road.

It would also be beneficial for troubleshooting the problem so we can see if there are any common denominators (besides the motherboard).

firbrd I have not laughed so hard in days!!!!! this is a great rant!!! I am not laughing at you.  God I feel your pain.  Plus my wife is on my ass for wasting time and money.  And she is right (this time )

I am going through the same pains with the Micro board from hell.  I noticed you posted to my thread.  I will say welcome to the P.O.S. Club.  Anyway I joined the club back in late November, but wasn't able to get all my parts until Christmas.  But since Christmas, it has been a daily adventure with the EVGA MB!!!  (why didn't I stay with ASUS, why).
Like you,  I have had great help from this forum as well, esp. from iride4u.

I am going to try and get my PSU replaced from enermax.  I have the +85 that "supposed" to have issues.  If it's the same ole song, then, after that watch for my youtube video of the EVGA MICRO shot burning into space with the rest of the space junk.

I have not had  single usb dropping out issue with neither the 758 3x or the e760.  Maybe it is just one setting. this was also through 2 different power supplies, the silverstone op1000 and the thermaltake toughpower 1200. I am not sure what causes the problems, but how many of you have ssd's?

No SSD here.  Kendragon, you're lucky that you're not plaqued with our freezing issues.  Mines been pretty good for the last day but who knows when the next time I'll have trouble booting or even sitting on the computer.  How sad...I'm actually using my old Abit KR7A raid motherboard configuration as my primary computer....instead of the new 1500.00 setup I just built.   Why you may ask...well if you can't login or it takes multiple attempts or it freezes while you're using the comptuer...it doesn't make you want to continue using it.

THe other two computers I've built using the same motherboard but EVGA 9800 GPU's don't seem to have the same issues...One has frozen a few times...or didn't detect USB but the other one is fine. (not to confuse anyone here but yes...I actually built three of these damn computers and made the freaking mistake of purchasing three of these SLI X58 boards.  The only difference in the three builds are two of them use EVGA GPU's and the other uses an ATI 5870 GPU. Funny thing is if people have been following my posts...not only do these boards suck (or at least I haven't had good luck with them) BUT the two video cards SUCK.  You can't even drop the fan speeds on them below 60 percent.  The 250 that is replacing the 9800 had the same issue but it just had a new firmware update to correct the issue.  i'm stuck with two freaking GPU's that are very loud at idle for no damn reason.

amen sir i had to use my laptop to write the comments/warnings beucase the e-760 usb ports lockup randomly. i am running 2 x-25m intell 80 gb ssds' but ive tried a single 500 gb wd and a single wd velociraptor. yeah ive tried all the hdd configs it didnt help. the upping of the ich southbridge did help for a while but its back to its old sweet lock-up self.

itd be REALLY nice if evga would fix this with a bios/firmware update for eveyone....time will tell but since its totaly hardware related im not sure if thats possible but for everyones sake i hope they do fix it.

I just updated my profile so others can see my build for troubleshooting purposes.

FYI I haven't have a problem for about a week after unplugging the front headers.  I have just turned on Selective Suspend to see if the problem starts up again.  If it doesn't I will see about getting the front USB's replaced and see if thats solves the issue once and for all.

My whole theory that it was due to a short.  I noticed that it would lock up more often when I put something in the dvd drive or if I stood up out of my chair or if I walked past the computer.  This led me to thing that the vibrations or static electricity (its very dry here) was causing a short.  The USB's short out, the mobo disables all of them, and the flow of power is disrupted until the PSU is turned off.

Well i'm sorry you guys have had this problem.  I cannot say the same as my classified has ran great without a problem.  I've had it stable at 4.35 and its the best motherboard i've ever owned.  And yes i've owned about 20 motherboards in the last year.  4 of the have been x58 and another 7 or 8 to the p55 chipsets.  All have been working without a problem.  Most have been highly overclocked and all.  All the EVGA products we've used at the store have worked great.

PS if anyone is unhappy with their motherboard, i'll gladly take it off your hands.  Just Pm me and i'll pay for the shipping.

I suppose it's nice to hear someone is having good luck...too bad it's not me.

I'd like to know why in the world would you purchase personally 20 motherboards in the last year.  I built three of them using the X58 SLI A1 motherboards but they were not for personal use.

I switch my components a ton.  I feel it nessisary to know whats out there and to know by personal experience what improvement are recommended to my clients.  Alot of those where for some clients of mine.

More on topic, there was a thread almost 6 months ago with the same problem and it turned out to be his phone.  Whenever it was near or plugged it the keyboard and mouse would stop working.  It took him a ton of research to find it out and it was something he would have never thought of.  I'm not saying its your phones, but have you plugged the computer somewhere else in the house to see if something was interfering with it.  Chances are small, but worth the try.

That makes sense regarding why you've purchased so many.  Regarding the phone.  Nothing else is plugged into the computer at this point.  Literally, Its sitting off to the side and I won't use it as my normal computer at this time.  That's how little faith I have in it.  As mentioned, I'm typing right now on my 100% stable 2001 seriously overclocked ABIT KR7A raid setup...  Yes, under normal browsing and general usage on the net, this thing is running far better than my new EVGA MB current setup.  The only thing I've changed over the years on this thing (KR7A) was maxing out the CPU and putting a better GPU inside of it.  About the only thing the KR7A obviously can't do well is play newer games...

I was apologetic to my buddy who has the other two computers with similar issues but I installed the EVGA 9800+ GPU which has its own issues whereas the firmware is screwed up and the fan speeds cannot be dropped lower than 60% which is the loudest things in the computer at this time.

I can't imagine once I do setup another component which will start reacting badly making things worse.  It's funny how my components are all pieces which are EVGA recommended but yet I've got these ghosts in all THREE builds.

It's getting old for me to sit and give a ****ing session about the boards.  Trust me, they would have all been returned if the damn UPC codes weren't removed for rebates (good tactic for EVGA to offer those...as we are all stuck now).

So I've got over 1100.00 in EVGA parts (motherboard and video cards) which if I could change it and take it all back I would.  If it weren't for these ghosts which makes the computer and my experience completely unsatisfactory, it would have been a good investment.

I have the 750i mobo and am experiencing problems too. None of my USB ports are working.

Happened about 3 days ago. Was fine before that.

Hey all.  I initially didn't notice this thread.  Hopefully a moderator will merge this one:
http://forums.evga.com/tm.aspx?m=157204
I am having these same issues.
I am amazed that of all the responses in other threads from moderators and administrators, that this one is essentially ignored completely.
What's up with that?

was there a windows update or something 3 days ago ?
I also started having issues around that time. Mouse just locks up for 2 seconds every couple of hours.
Had one occasion where the back USB ports stopped working and had to reboot.

OK, it's about time for a summary of the problem conditions here.

Possible cause Summary:

1. Logitech stuff, not necessarily the mouse. Logitech updates and drivers after 11/1 may be causing the problems only in conjunction with other conditions. This is why they often worked fine for a long time. Logitech software doesn't check for updates daily, it may be monthly, can't remember, I'm not running it right now.
2. Front panel connectors, primarily Cooler Master and Antec, bought after 11/1 (regardless of whether you are using them).
3. Windows 7 64bit my increase the likelihood of the problem occurring.

Don't think it can't be the Logitech device just because you unplugged and tried a different brand. To eliminate the possibility, one must also uninstall all Logitech (Setpoint or Wingman) software and drivers!
Issue might be mitigated by using a powered USB hub for all your USB devices.
People who later experience slow boot times may have had their USB controllers permanently damaged by this problem.
Has nothing to do with dry-air static electricity as I keep my humidity constantly above 40%.

Can we please have someone see if they can eliminate some of these possibilities?
Does the problem go away when the front panel USB connectors are unplugged from the header?
Does the problem persist without ANY Logitech hardware OR software OR drivers?
Does the problem go away when you connect ALL USB devices to a powered USB hub? (disconnect FP connectors too)

I know the mobo is still a prob if some of these possibilities are eliminated, but at least we might arrive at a conclusion to the problem so we could report the exact problem to EVGA (and to Logitech) for a possible software or BIOS fix.

I can't check these myself because my E758 A1 board is RMAd awaiting replacement.

I can speak for the Logitec variable.  My problems started when I was using a Microsoft Wireless Optical Mouse 2.0, and a Logitec device had never been installed before that.

I will unplug my top panel tonight when I get home and see what happens.

The use of the wording "increase" is important as far as the OS is concerned.  I experienced the same USB failure even while running off of a live Ubuntu disk.  (my goal was to eliminate any windows drivers from being the cause.)

I don't have a dog in this fight.  Yet.  I've got a question:  when you spun up the Ubuntu disk, did USB work for a while and then fail, or was it b0rked from the start?

The reason I ask is this sounds familiar.  I had an Intel mobo running XP that would do something like this.  If I plugged in a Logitech cordless mouse USB receiver, the machine would start looping on unrecognized or USB error or something.  All USB became unusable.   The system was not wedged, but was very sluggish.  Other USB devices didn't trigger the problem.  It only seemed to happen via the front-panel USB sockets. Very strange.

The really creepy part was that I could reboot to Linux and the problem would persist right from boot time.  USB not usable, constant error messages posted in the log.

The only way to make it stop was to turn off the AC mains and then hit the power button to clear whatever was messed up in CMOS/BIOS state.

It sounds like your symptoms are different.  Do you have other system issues at the time?  Stuff in the event log?  I don't have the strength to read the whole thread...

Sorry for not contributing anything, but I'm curious.  And concerned that my 758 will start doing this.

Z.

FYI: I just did an Internet search, and I could NOT find any evidence that this problem exists outside of EVGA motherboards.

I have switched to Asus Rampage II Extreme, but alas it had a completely different (cold boot good vs warm mobo won't boot) prob, and I am also awaiting a replacement for it as well.

Your symptoms reflect exactly what this thread is about.  And yes, the USB's would work for a while, then stop working.

I have stated in the other thread,  we have tested for this issue  (myself personally)   and have not exhibited any of these dropouts.

I do believe you have an issue,   but it could be one of many things.

  1. Bad front panel USB header
  2. PSU issue
  3. USB/external device issue
  4. Addressing conflict
  5. OS issue (putting ports to sleep)
mind you this is just 5 of the issues that can cause these sort of strange occurences.
