Hey All

I came here looking for answers to this problem that is getting me a little ticked. I just bought this board and was creatings a system to replace my old gaming system. Im actually glad its obviously not an isolated problem but appears there hasnt een an answer yet. As of now this system is completely uselss. I can tell most of you it has nothing to do with over clocking. I just assmebled mine and have taken it apart and put it back together and installced Win 7 64 for the third time in 3 days. Each time for no reason Id lose my USB slots and then experience a number of problems with POST (very slow). I fist blames the RAID set up, the next time I changed out my SLI to single vcard. This last straw was an hour ago..after about 4 hours of installing everything and having it working great. I started loading on all my software and games, for no reason I lost all my USB slots while in the middle of something, not having any peripherals I did a hard boot and now my POST is taking about 10 minutes. Its like someone is typing it out. USB slots wont recognise anything and Im out of ideas and completely frustrated as I have no gaming system at this rate. No point in using tech support as there seems to be a bumber so ppl with same problem. Ill give it a days or two but I refuse to reinstall again, I have better things to do. Well maybe not. Anyway, lets hope for an answer soon.

guys i swapped my G5 out for a steel series Xai on friday and as yet havent had a dropout with or without the logitech software running.
Im gonna try plugging things like usb sticks and stuff in to see if anything drops out.

Im only using 2 usb devices which was also the case when i was experiencing the dropouts, G19 keyboard and G5 mouse which is now the Xai.

Give it a go if your using similair hardware and see how it goes.

@firbrd

You are not exactly filling me with confidence...lol

Anyway, I got up this morning and started the PC. It posted fine and ran Win7 with no problems. Still no USB connections though.

I reread some of the info on this forum and turned off my power supply and then back on. I then rebooted and once in the OS I plugged in my mouse and it works. Thats the first positive thing I did.

I an still awaiting arival of my Phyx card so I wont be doing any more to this until I get that and install it.

@ Ultim8

I too have logitech hardware but didnt have any of the software installed when this problem started. In fact, the first time it happened, and not knowing about this problem, I took everything out of system and reconfigured RAID and reinstalled OS. I didnt have any Logitech equipment or software installed at tha time. So im not convinced thats the problem. I do agmit though the last time it went down (late last night) I had plugged in my G15 keyboard and Feddom 2.4 joystick. I cant say they had anything to do with directly as it seemed to work fine for about 20 min aftre then while I was screwing around with one of the games the mouse stopped working and I realized all my USB connection were down too. My mouse is Razor btw. In any event this problem seems sporadic with no imediate event defining the problem. I'm relying on you to get some answer from the ticket but it reading Firbrd post its not looking good.

I've had the same issue several times in the past few weeks.  It seems to only happen when the PC has been idle for some time.  Then when I go to use it I have no use of my keyboard or mouse.  The only way I can get it to come back is to turn off the PSU at the switch, and reset the BIOS with the reset button on the backplane.  I'm using a logitech keyboard and mouse with Win 7 X64 Pro and a 760 mobo.  Nothing is overclocked.  Seems to be random.  Any thoughts EVGA???

Check for any power options for the usb hub in device manager, if it is set to allow it to power down device try removing the check mark.

Tried that already.  Also, disabling USB selective suspend can reduce the problem but it won't go away altogether.

Yep but they're usually removed by default anyhow if Power Options are set to "High performance". I've had to manually uncheck this on my network adapter though.

I am not having this issue but wanted to add to this comment.. You guys could be experiencing a issue with an update/hotfix Microsoft came out with for Windows 7. Not any specific update/hotfix.. just seems that some of you where running fine then it "just started happening".. And others where having the issue right away because their builds were done after the said update/hotfix was already released and unknowingly installed them right out of the gate.. I don't know just trying to help you guys out from a different angle so-to-speak... Well good luck EVGA will sort you out... I'm sure they are working on it...

im gonna plug my G5 back in and see if the problem comes back, oh and i did test out plugging a flash stick in various ports numerous times earlier and nothing dropped out, EVGA have offered to RMA the board for me but just seems weird at this point that the steelseries mouse is fine.

Im going to order a Logitech G500 tomorrow as i dont like the Xai too much, just hope it isnt down to logitech mice in general.

I have myself a new issue now. Not only do I still get random USB drops when Windows boots, but now it sometimes will not detect my second SATA hard drive. I have to manually go into the device manager and scan for new hardware, only then will Windows find my other drive and automatically activate it. This only started yesterday which is a bit strange.

Also, it seems that USB/hard drive drop outs are more common if I let Windows shut off the display after X minutes of inactivity before doing anything.

I am running Windows XP 32bit for the people that are wondering if it's isolated to Win7 or 64 bit software. I havent had an issue in almost 2 weeks now after I unplugged my USB HDD. On the note of the having to manually detect your 2nd hard drive thru windows; I had that same issue with Win7 Beta. But it was not all the time, only sometimes. Installed XP 32 bit and i stopped having the issue. I do have a copy of win7 64 bit coming in on monday so when I get it I will test a few things and if anything comes up I'll let you know.

thankx this is what i was hoping for a response from someone running a xp system. kinda goes to show it may well be a issue with windows 7 and this paticuall mobo (tho not sure why)???. anyhow ovakeel if you have the usb failure and usb dropouts once win7 is installed let us know i think its a vista/win7 especally win 7 issue............time for evag to actually step-up and resolve the issue since its a mobo-win7 issue. the usb selective suspend thing CAN be disabled completely in windows 7. just google "disable selective suspend windows 7" this is more of a band-aid than a real fix it slows down the usb lockups but wont fix it. time for evga to actually fix the issue. evga keeps complaining about me doing rma's but its actually something EVGA needs to fix.

Well since I turned off the power and unplugged everything I started the computer back up and plugged in everything one by one with exception of FReedom2.4 joystick. Its been running most of the day, USB problem free. However about an hour ago, I was playing one of the games and in the middle of the battle I got a fatal error. I rebooted the system and got blue screen of death, rebooted again and runs fine except certain programs cause it to fatal error again. I checked my memory in system properties and saw that now see 8.99 GB out of 12GB. I know for sure this is new as its a fresh install and I looked often to see if everything was recognized. Bottom line, this Mobo and the 6G's I spent on the 'ultimate gaming machine is quickly becoming a paper weight....Im not a very happy camper with EVGA right now.

You should list your system specs.  What you describe sounds less like a USB problem, and more like a configuration issue causing general instabilities.

Windows XP here.  Fully updated.

I've had this damn bootup freeze issue which I've narrowed down to a USB issue.  Its a new system so I haven't been playing on it as of yet.  I swapped out to a new SLI X58 board which now I have rev. 1.1 (had 1.0 before) and its the same issue.  I have a new video card  saphire 5870 so I know this is not the issue either.  The power supply is corsair 750hx and the memory is g.skill 6gb configured correctly.  Tested memory with no errors.

The keyboard is a logitech iluminated u95 and the mouse is a logitech g7.  Fresh install of windows.

I know the kb pulls 300ma of the 500ma per port...(60% of the addressable current), the mouse ~95ma.  My computer locks up during the windows boot screen every so often.  It does it just about when the keyboard and mouse is ready to turn on.  ...then the windows boot progress bar freeze happens.  It doesn't happen all the time but enough to be something I am completely unhappy about.

(no other USB ports are being used)

I've just connected a separate powered USB hub where the mouse and kb is now connnected.  It seems so far with testing that it does NOT lockup using the powered USB hub.  This may be an easy fix for everyone...I'm still testing it so far but it seems to be working flawless and no lockups.  We'll see.

For anyone that is considering trying this...make SURE the usb hub is self powered so it does not draw higher current from the internal USB controller.

So far I'm really not happy with this board as its the only one that I've built of which I've had any issues like this.  If it wasn't for the fact that I sent in the damn UPC label for a stupid rebate, this board would have been sent back for a refund!!!  I'm pissed I spent quite a bit of money on a board that does not operate as it should. I've got an old abit KR7A raid system from 1991 that is NEVER has has  a hiccup of which is overclocked to the max.

I don't know if the issue can be resolved through a software or firmware fix.  I think its a hardware issue personally.

It would be really sad if our only option is to spend more money on a usb hub because this expensive mobo can't handle regulating the power of a mouse and keyboard.

Dirt,

It is really sad.  That's why I'm so damn pissed off about this.  My hands are tied since I sent in the damn UPC label.  I SHOULD have tested it for a few days at least before I sent it in...that's why I'm kicking myself in the ass at this point.

I realize every product is subject to issues, hopefully this gets resolved.

Now that I have a brand new board, and swapped every part out that I can, I KNOW its the issue of the board.  So far the USB external powered hub has corrected the problems which points directly to the USB internal controlller and its capacities.  I KNOW its not windows as XP has been stable for years at this point. Some may have been wondering about windows 7 and drivers...but I'm using old faithful xp.

I will be calling evga tomorrow to note my issue and if there is not any resolution within a reasonable time, I will NEVER purchase another EVGA board in my life.  I hope its a firmware or other simple fix.   I've made my purchase over 30 days ago and JUST got the computer back together today to find the same issues!!

"It would be really sad if our only option is to spend more money on a usb hub because this expensive mobo can't handle regulating the power of a mouse and keyboard."

agreed!!!! very sad a 400$ mobo that cant handle even the simplest of usb componenets!

"I will NEVER purchase another EVGA board in my life."

agreed again!!!

this is truly sad thing that evga DOES know the issue exsists in theyre mobo's and STILL doenst even acknoledge the problem and us (the consumers) have to put up with a rma very 6 months on a faulty mobo that cost 400 bucks.....sad and a damn shame! sorry but im really mad that evag wont fix the issue casuing me and everyone here to have to rma every few months on a 400$ mobo and wont even offer refund of any kind!

sooo its not os related soo much its truly hardware related.....

I'm still not convinced it's EVGA's motherboard causing issues.... I put my money on a Win7/Vista problem.... The combination of logitech, win7/vista is probably the culprit causing it to look like a mobo issue.... Once again I'm not an expert nor do I have this problem just hoping for a fix for you guys.....

And believe it or not this seems like a isolated issue.. I know it seems alot of you are having this issue but, in reality if it was a big problem this thread would be huge by now... This mobo is very popular.....

You guys should post your comprehensive specs and BIOS settings. I have a 758 board, W7x64 Ultimate with a ton more USB stuff plugged in and have not experienced any USB issues with bootup or lockups. I don't use Logitech's crappy stuff either.

I believe I posted my computer specs.  I did negate bios settings though and CPU and hard drive.  The CPU is a 920, bios settings are stock w/exception of memory configured to memory specs.  Hard drive is WD 1tb black.  Bios is from 10/29...I haven't updated it to the newest 11/29 version since I updated my last one to that...

I should create a sig...it would be easier.

Stock is not correctly configured out of the box, depending on what you're using. You have settings like HPET, AHCI, etc that all must be configured properly.

Also, I don't know if you've stated your settings are stable... Prime 95 stable? LinX stable? It does not matter if you're not overclocked, if something is crapping out like your CPU or memory, you need to run these tests to make sure.

ummmmm .........no this is not correct on your part if your NOT having the problem then you have no idea what your even talking about. ive used other brands as well as my "crappy" logitech stuff to ive tried microsoft kb and mouse and regualr cheap-o generic. i beleive when the techs at evga do indeed say its a issue with the usb controllers....then in fact you above spouted opinion doesnt matter. if your not having/had the issue again you dont have a clue as to what your talkin about......no offense but you cant truly understand till youhave this issue and btw when the issue is with 80+ people on just 1 forum THATS a HUGE problem!!!!! its also ALLLL over the internet as well. this issue has finally reared it ugly head. its the usb controller plain and simple and evga needs to "man up" admit it and fix it.

Ouch! Did you text that reply in? Sorry, but in any event, I've owned a good deal of Logitech hardware and as anyone in my position who's owned their gear knows, they do in fact have some buggy software bloat and drivers, you just need to learn to work with it and disable certain components in Device Manager, e.g. under "Human Interface Devices"/HID-Compliant Device" often disabling those HID compliant devices often increases FPS in benchmarking, but the drawback in certain instances is, it disables features such as your G15/G19's LCD screen functionality but I don't use it anyhow during gaming or for that matter anything else that much.

I do however agree with your assessment that EVGA needs to "man up" as it were and should send in a rep or R&D engineer, someone involved in it's development etc. to try and get to the bottom of these well documented issues.

first of all sorry if i upset anyone but, i am just frustrated and trulyy appologize. i contacted evga directly earlier today as well and talked to shane robb he's a product specialist and is deep into the products at evga hes also been terrific in a couple of my rma's with theyre products. i belive if anyone he will turly truly try and help us all out in some form. if its a software issue indeed i belive a new bios flash should be in order. kinda like when you connect a ssd to win7 it disables defrag..... they need to do something the same lines some how or maybe a actuall bios flash itself. hopefully shane can help us all out....im crossin my finger AND my toes....lol. again VERY sorry if i stepped on anyones toes im just abit agrrivated having to tear out all my componnets every 3-6 months but maybe between me and the other guy someone will come help us out........we can hope!
