I have been having this problem for quite some time now and some help would be appreciated in solving it. When playing intensive games such as Borderlands 2 my game will freeze. Shortly after this happens my monitor will go black and will send me to my desktop. In this state the computer does not respond to anything and I have to use task manager to end the game. Which is really annoying, as it recently happened during a boss fight right as I was about to kill the damn boss. ============================================================================================== SYSTEM SPECS ============================================================================================== CPU: Intel core i5 4670 3.4GHz GPU: EVGA GTX 980 OS: Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit RAM: Corsair vengeance series 1333 MHz DDR3 8GB Storage: 250GB SSD boot drive w/ 750GB auxiliary mechanical HDD MOBO: EVGA Z87 FTW CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212EVO

Is your card at stock clocks? Most recent Nvidia drivers?

Card is running at stock clocks with ACX cooling turned up. Drivers are being updated. GeForce experience failed to auto download and install them. *so done*

How many games does this happen for? Only BL2, or others aswell? Is your CPU at stock clocks?

Its happened with Minecraft, CS:GO and ME3 in the past. These issues were fixed by locking the FPS at 60 for the games with Vsync. I have the framerate locked at 60 while running BL2. My CPU is at stock clocks.

I have seen this happen with MOH and at 3X, I have it down to 2 possible reasons, DirectX11 struggling with the higher Res and or the monitor is being swamped, neither has any fact only observation. David

One item you failed to mention was your power supply. What model and wattage is it?

Downclocking the card by 105 mhz on both the core & memory will most likely correct the problem you're having. Here is how to downclock the card if you would like to try it... #1 Download and install msi afterburner#2 Open afterburner and set core clock (mhz) & memory clock (mhz) to -105. Click apply button. #3 Go test your games. Leave afterburner open while testing.

I played Borderlands 2 that's not so intensive game... Maybe you to fast press some buttons, I completely fall from chair during fight with invincible bosses. Because I play with single player and it's very hard I need to be at least 10 level above him to beat him. Try to enable VSync in game for Borderlands 2. That game have incredible tearing without VSync, don't leave fps on Unlimited. You will have at least 40% of graphic free.

Down clocking isn't a correction. It's a method of identifying a possible defective GPU. IMO.

I agree. Some people may not want to RMA their GPU though and are simply looking for a solution to fix their problem at the current time.
